Dear friends, this organ is really magnificent. I had the opportunity in playing it last Saturday, July 30th 2011. I think it's one-and-a-half times more powerfull then the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam. This church has an echo of 10 seconds (Cologne/Coeln: 13). When I'm home in Holland, I will put some video's on youtube. My first attempt! Best regards, Rien van Binnendijk
Wonderful !!! Magnificent instrument !!! Is this the Cathedral the one that stands in front of the Danube River, near a Bridge ? I have visited Budapest many years ago and can't remember properly. Thanks ! JAL, from Brazil, South America
@BSMHardmy Yes, you are right. Last summer I played in Esztergom and the sound of the chamades was very energic and clear. Heh, Prague cathedral.... before the WW2 it had to be a 8-manual organ, almost the biggest in the Europe.
@Phaare I know Litomyšl quite well, I played there twice, and my marriage will take place there this summer. A friend from France will play the organ. Although the chamades of Litomyšl are very nice, you cannot compare it to the great acoustic of the huge cathedral of Esztergom. Anyway, I am impressed that the parish of the small town of Litomyšl wanted to finance such a nice instrument when even Prague cathedral hasn't have a proper one!!!
Back to this very nice instrument Esztergom. I would like to know who is doing its voicing. How is it possible to have such a convincing sound if the building is since many years a work on progress? There is here a tonal homogenity and a french-like sound I would't expect in such place. Where did they bought this chamades?
@Phaare Hu? I never heard about this. Is there any draft of the stop list? Who should have built this great instrument? What about the pipecase? Just for fun, I tried to find another church with about same dimensions and ratio of organ loft height vs available height. The result gives something like Orléans or Coutances cathedral in France. Anyway, in my humble opinion, it is just a shame that Prague is the sole capital city without proper organ in its cathedral.
This is obviously an improvisation. The organist studied perhaps in France ? This organ sounds great. Is there any similar instrument in HU or CZ ? I don't think so.
