- Once you train your dog to go to and stay on a dog bed, you more than likely want to transfer this behavior to other dog beds. This is done by taking a few steps back to move a few steps forward. In this short video taken from Jeff Frawley's DVD and online course, An Introduction to Dog Training, Jeff will teach you how to generalize the bed command onto a new bed.

Sunny is such a happy dog. Lovely to see him so focused :)
Sonny loves to train! :)
How do you teach the dog to stay on the bed/object? What do you do if the dog steps off?
*woof woof woof woof woof* oh i mean * thanks for the help keep it up*
This might be a strange question, but what is a reasonable time that can be expected for the dog to stay on the bed? Do you have to start back at the beginning and then work on extending the time? Or can you start from wherever you left off?
so your release word is Yes?
The word "yes" is used as a release to reward in training. Eventually when you're dog is beginning to understand the behavior ("Bed" in this case) you can begin to teach a release word without reward, so the dog is simply able to come off the bed (Many people use to words 'Free' or just saying the dogs name to release)
I wanted to see a heeler like the thumbnail showed lol
Maybe, the Heeler is in several of our videos :) Sonny is the star in this video though!
Here's one with Maybe the ACD :) leerburg.com/flix/player.php/1387/Cindy_Rhodes_and_Maybe_%E2%80%9CGo_To_Bed%E2%80%9D
