The chopstick catch alone would make this one of the craziest. Add all these up and it’s no contest!
Bingo. It's gonna be amazing regardless.😁
Chopsticks? They stole it from China this time! 😂
@@SWilfordlmaooo. nah in all seriousness tho its gonna be the first launch in the dark and with clear skies. its gonna be insane i cant wait
@@SWilford We're okay with that here. They are taking this to a whole new level, the only impressive move associated with these boring sticks use to be kung fu masters catching houseflies with them, and that was fictional. lol
and will fail, mark my words
New Shepard will have problems because all the mission control personnel will be watching Starship launch.
Dude CHIIIIILLL!!!!!!😂
They'll have problems with falling debris from Starship.
who doesn't enjoy a good firework. Also time is of the essence. Soon the orbit will be a impenetrable cloud of Elon starlink junk.
Every time I see the blue origin rocket I’m reminded of Dr. Evil’s rocket from Austin Powers.
Colonel, you better have a look at this radar. It looks like a giant--
It kinda is.
@@defenestrated23 Johnson! Get on the horn to British Intelligence...
“Hey.. that kinda looks like a…” 🍆
@@defenestrated23 I love that scene!!
8:40 that is hysterical
Kind of fitting, considering who the big boss is.
What about it is hysterical ?
@@ronjones-6977 Elon is very capable to compete on this too...
@@briancleveland6115 penis is funny bro catch up
Yes, we always tried to keep positive gees on the Ez-Rocket and X-Racer, too. An Immelmann is the right way to recover from a vertical climb- and fun! I always found it hard to keep my eyes on the engine instruments when the horizon was doing wacky stuff.
Between Starship and Europa Clipper, space nerds are eatin' good this weekend.
we got a whole domn buffet lmao
8:35 🤣 Well, there goes my coffee 🤣
You mentioned DART having completed its mission 2 years ago, and I was in such disbelief that I had to look it up. Fun Fact: Google has added an animation of DART smashing into one of the images of Dimorphos!
Oh my god that is hilarious! Thanks for pointing it out
I was passively listening while working in the kitchen, then 8:45 happened, and now you have my full attention.
In all seriousness, I'm super excited for this SS launch. The first test launch of the SS was something I got to share with my mom before she passed. She was never a space nerd like me, but she was fascinated with SpaceX and what they were doing with crew launches and Starship. I really wish she could have seen what we get to see.
Oh lord, that orbital solar satellite is gonna set the "space laser" people off.
Hi Scott, I always love watching your videos. However, you should know that Jiuquan is not pronounced "ji-kwan", but rather something closer to "geo-chew-ann" ("geo" pronounced as in "geocentric"). I'd be happy to make a recording if you'd like. Thanks again for all the education and entertainment!
Of course I'm going to have to wake up at 4:00 in the morning on a work day. Working weekends on the west coast has its benefits, but spacex's launch Cadence is not one of them.
It's going to be insanely exciting. Because they're constantly proving that the only rules that matter are the laws of physics (and safety). Everything else is only a suggestion. It proves that any idea-no matter how wild, crazy, futuristic, or insane-could become reality. That is, if you're willing to ceaselessly challenge the status quo and laser focus on first-principles.
When this thing goes up and decides to go for the catch attempt, there will definitely be a conclusion in exactly 3-5 seconds. It will clearly work or it will clearly explode. There aren't a lot of high stakes, large projects in real life whose outcomes are so decisively determined in such a certain way and in such a brief time period.
It's kind of like a game-deciding hail Mary at the end of the super bowl, but you've known it was coming for 3 years. You seen all the simulations of it, but no one knows what will actually happen.
This is super similar to what you learn when you study storytelling. This type of conclusion is the DNA of the best story endings-it clearly does or doesn't work, you know the ending is coming, you know it will definitely conclude, and it toggles between polar emotional states very quickly.
8:43 you make a strong argument 😉
I always thought it looks more like a tampon.
You know that one with the 3 guys stuck in the thing with problems? Slingshotting around the Moon? That was crazier 🤣
Throwing a boomerang is not crazier than throwing a basketball across the court, having it bounce back right into a hole where it started
@@CptFUBARif that were true then SpaceX would have landed humans on the moon or sent them on a free return trajectory at least before booster reuse.
booster reuse is clearly easier and cheaper than a crewed lunar landing or even maybe a flyby, Starship Superheavy specifically will be the greatest most impressive attempt yet but don’t lose your mind and start comparing it to the Apollo program.
@@STS-Dreamer should've CCd OP on that one 😂
@@STS-Dreamerid assume that booster propulsive reuse is pretty much impossible without modern computers
"Arianespace used to launch rockets...." You can stop right there.
that blue origin comparison was gold 😂
This is going to be an absolutely stellar weekend
I'll be watching IFT-5 at 2200hrs! From 'Strayla!!
Good onya' mate !!! (I lived 39 yrs in nth syd, Oz)
8:47 also matters more, but yes... new Shepard does look awfully phallic😅
If I may pick a fight here.... Why does it matter more? (Is there something Important about this mission, or are you disillusioned with starship?)
@@אניבאמתיהודי to be disillusioned about starship one has to be delusional :)
@@אניבאמתיהודי It’s ok to have mixed feelings about Melon Tusk and still love Spacex
So basically Amazon is trying to demonstrate HellDivers... Interesting.
I saw Dick Rutan fly the EZ-Rocket at AirVenture couple decades ago. It was so unbelievable at the time.
It's not crazy, it's EPIC!!! 😎
Yoooo.. I never thought of New Shepard to that kind of thing till now xD
Now I can't unsee it anymore 💀
The last time I was this psyched was April 20, 2023
Nice burst disk you go there!
There going ! Starship 5 launch .
Flight 5 will either be the most amazing thing ever or the biggest mess ever can’t wait to see 😊
5:40 i dont think vulcan needs a grounding cause they won't get a new rocket ready before they figure out what happened anyway I'm sure they're still gonna investigate
Great update! I expected comment on PLD Space 10 year ambitious project, maybe next time!
I'm really surprised that the people from ULA were all tip-toeing around that SRB failure instead of just throwing Northrop-Gruman under the bus
They are kinda stuck with them so yikes!
Probably because the Vulcan/Centaur still made to orbit with insertion of the payload into its heliocentric orbit. If it hadn't been successful then NG would likely have been thrown under the bus!!
Perhaps the Blue Origin ship could have a flexible heat shield into which it could retract for reentry.
if ya no whut ahh meen
Is that outro music new, Scott? Not sure I've heard that one yet, I i dig it!
Wait, wait. Did you just say sub-orbital delivery service trials? That is both amazing (in the Heinlein sense) and terrifying (also in the Heinlein sense). Where's our girl Friday when we need her most?
There was an ad right after you described new Shepard, and I thought you had just ended the video there 😂😂
Thanks Scott good coverage pf almost everything!
i heard a talk many years ago by the lead scientist of Europa Clipper. Who said, if they could launch on SLS they'd save a lot of time. But they "probabaly won't be able to afford that".
Fly safe!
I would argue that Sunday the 20th of July 1969 might be the MOST exciting space weekend of all time ;)
I'm glad someone finally said what needed to be said about the New Sheppard. Er...that there is nobody on board when it comes to Blue Origin.
Thanks Scott.
How exciting. The Great Pretender and his bottle rocket! Forget that. Starship for the win!
maybe a really cool boom?
Great update video Scott.
What will be the net ft-lbs pucker torque in SpaceX HQ during retrieval maneuver?
Crunch those #'s Scott.🤔😁
Thank you Scott!! I love your video updates
19:40 Negative Gs were favored in WW2 dogfighting by none other than the world's winningest fighter ace, who coincidentally is not Scott Manley.
I mean fly however you want I guess, but its an objective fact that the body can handle positive gees better than negative gees. This is also true of most airframes, at least civilian ones.
@@JohnVanderbeck If pursued from behind negative Gs may surprise your opponent and allow you to slip behind him.
Thanks for the weekend deep space updates.
500 million. I think you overestimate Elon’s cash position 😂 I hope it goes well and doesn’t run out of fuel. He needs to demonstrate capacity for an actual payload to orbit
Thank you Scott
It's apparent that you've been working on your Chinese (Crying Emoji)
7:05 is that not just the most kerbal rocket anywhere?
its not bending and wobbling enough.
SCOTTS head looks like new glen
I just finished ben bova's novel "Powersat" today. Another example of science fiction turning into reality!
Go starship !!!
The barge launchings are pretty impressive, and a little safer for the folks in China
You killed me with laughter at minute 22:07. Please be so kind and give us some notice next time so I don't spill my drink- root beer obviously 🤣😂🤩
If Dawn Aerospace is Peroxide they also have Kero or RP1 as a post (afterburner) because there would be no yellow flame withourt it. The injector and circumfirential flange remind me of the Armadillo Aerospace Kerosine injection ring that they did on a small peroxide rocket motor that they did in the early 2000's.
Scott, New Shepard isn't a real rocket, it's Jeffy's toy rocket. He hasn't tried to fly his REAL rocket yet...
YOU may not know what's going on there with the FAA, but many of US have our suspicions...
The Sept 25th Falcon9 launch... Did anyone in Ventura County get sonic boomed?
Some folks I know felt a boom after the launch from the returning booster.
all rtls launches have a sonic boom on return
We get them all the time over here in FL by the Cape, so wouldn't surprise me.
@@clayel1 sure, but generally not in densely populated areas in SoCal. That Sept. 25th launch went southest along the coast from Vandenberg.
I can't remember if I noticed it or not. It was too long ago. What I have noticed though is that the audibility of ASDS flight booms in eastern VC (TO, Moorpark, Simi) is surprisingly variable and I think it has a lot to do with the weather (mainly the atmospheric temperatures). Some have rattled things in the house, others I didn't notice even though I was waiting for them.
The SpaceX booster catch is going to be epic, failure or not.
There’s a chance
exactly
I want to see the "chop sticks" (lol) catch the largest rocket ever. Getting up early to try to catch a live stream.
There's a Longshot burst disk behind Scott! Not sure if he mentioned it.
Tofu dreg space program in a hurry will only end in sadness ...
I feel like somewhere has an actual bet going on if this thing will be caught or be much more exciting than intended. Wonder what the odds look like.
SRBs having problems is scary
SpaceX sure has got the two towers, let's hope they melt no rings.
Soooo... How can they measure anything withing 5 mm in the middle of the ocean?
Supposedly with a variety sensors and methods related to the buoys
the answer is always lasers
Love the outro music, btw!
I think Musk is drawing a direct comparison between SpaceX and BO. He's making a point.
Incredibly excited for the starship launch. Even if the landing/booster catch doesn’t happen it’ll be great to see the progress made since the last launch.
Craziest?
Non-zero probability.
7:10 this is so funny
Get the lucky robe ready!
lets hope X37 doesn't try to slipstream, and end up on the far side of the Galaxy...
It's already been two years since DART? what
Is ATK/Northrup the only supplier of SRBs in the US?
I think its great that falcon has had some minor issues. I'm a little worried that SpaceX may get complacent, as they frankly have been very successful. Especially important as failures here can negatively affect Starship.
Wonderful video sir
So, when will we get to see New Glenn launch to the Bell's End galaxy? Enquiring minds just gotta know!
My alarm is set!
That may be your thing lol😂
The Texas Takeoff landers
Elon won't even pay the Twitter employees he owes $200M to, do you really think he'd sign a $500M liability waiver? Sometimes Manley you have the brain of a cheese sandwich.
Happy to see China expanding their ops ❤
Has anyone suggested they open up a Coca-Cola and see where the leak is?
While individual events ( Apollo 11, Apollo 13) are more engrossing, the wealth and variety of this week’s update is amazing.
I now want to develop a KSP knock off called The Gods of Delta V
I'm gona watch both because they're not gona happen at the same time?
Best thumbnail!
Hopefully it doesn’t snap in half while getting caught by chopsticks
Definitely the craziest 🤣
Just send up a can Flex Seal. That’ll fix that leak.
@Scott Manley... FYI... It seems RUclips auto-unsubscribed me. I don't know why since I watch all the videos within a few days of them coming out. Re-subscribed.
To answer the title, no. Moon landing week was pretty special. This week will be forgotten once Starship is actually in service and launching routinely All these other little rockets will look like toys in 10 years.
Nooo the old outro is gone :(
...But the new one is great aswell :)
...But the old one is an established brand in my ears :(
New outro!
Is there somewhere we can bet on the catch?
