I'm argentine, and believe me, TANGO is our way of expressing feelings. With lyrics and movements. I'm very happy that tango is very much loved arround the world-
I was at a dance studio, the very first dance, was the tango. Their top dancer picked me to dance with him. I was both thrilled and intimidated at the same time, as I had never danced the tango before. He made me look good, it was beautiful and a treasured memory.
It's amazing to dance with a strong leading partner, but my favourite was with an elderly gentleman who was so very polite :)

My Mom taught me the walking step, & all the others I know, my Dad taught me. Unfortunately, the Tango wasn't one of them.
Dad & I were watching ballroom dancing & I said to him, "The Women are doing all the work." He laughed & said, "It's the job of the Men to make the Women look good. They have to make sure that they are in the correct position so that the Women can perform the steps they are supposed to. The better the Woman looks while dancing, & the smoother their transitions are, the better the job her partner is doing."
I had never realized that fact until I danced with a Gentleman I had never danced with before. I told him that I wasn't the best dancer & he said, "No problem." When he wanted me to turn a certain way, he would just drop his hand toward the direction he wanted me to go. If it was a quick drop of his hand it was one turn, if his hand remained dropped, we turned until he returned his hand to an upright position. I only made one mistake while dancing with him, at the very beginning, because I didn't know what his hand movements meant; he whispered in my ear, "Dance in the direction my hand is pointing", & away we went. If you didn't know it, you would think we had been dancing together for years.

The thing is that La Cumparsita is an Uruguayan tango. It premiered in Montevideo in 1916 and its author is Gerardo Matos Rodríguez. The best arrangements are indeed Argentinian, and so are its lyrics. It is the best known tango in the world and the best example of Uruguayan and Argentinian brotherhood. Cheers.

It is a tango (Argentine rhythm).
The lyrics and arrangements (R.Firpo, arg) , the touches of color, nuances, dance, identity of arrabal, malevos and percantas, letter, soul and life were given by the tango arg, to be able to play it and stick it in the Buenos Aires neighborhoods and in Paris. If not, it would not be tango. The orchestras were killed by competing, and even. they all selected good musicians, there was a "something else" that could not be missing and that identified them. Q it cannot be explained, nor can it be taught, it is macerating, setting in each town over time, it is making you flesh, it is impregnated within your city, in contact with your people.
The same will happen to Cubans with salsa, to Colombians with cumbia, to Brazil, Mexico,Peru, etc.
Culture, the soul of the people can be imitated, but NOT STEAL ...

Los arreglos de la cumparsita lo hizo un director de orquesta argentino, la primer cumparsita era guitara y voz unicamente, el acordeon se lo pusieron en buenos aires, como todos los tangos, se estreno en La capital del tango, Buenos Aires.
