There are Hollywood studios spending hundreds of millions of dollars on films, meanwhile I have not been to a movie theater in years, I just sit home and watch Game Sack.
I highly recommend the jailbreak firmware for the Super NT. This will allow you to backup all of your actual SNES/SFC cart roms (and your precious SRAM battery saves) to an SDcard. A very nice feature, which up until this I had to use my old 90's SNES copiers to do this. You can also play all non-enhancement chip (FX/SA-1/DSP1-4/etc) roms from the SDcard with this firmware as well. A very nice added option to have. Here are the notes from the 4.5 JB release: All official v4.5 fixes plus: Added CopySNES. Lets you dump carts/save RAM to the SD card. Files are placed into /COPYSNES/. The directory is created if it does not exist. See the text file for full instructions. Star Ocean 96mbit works now. Changed menu operation so that if you enter the settings menu in the file browser, it can be exited back to the file browser by hitting select (or backing all the way out using the back button). Changed file browser operation so that if you attempt to back out of it, you get warned that the running game will be ended and you cannot save any more. In JB mode, tools menu appears on the main menu which has CopySNES and cheat codes. Cheat codes is moved into the file browser settings menu.
redvenomweb: I'm not sure which emulator the Retron 5 uses, but as long as the SRAM files are using the standard headers you should be able to do that with CopySNES on a jailbroken Super NT firmware. -VGO
Thank you for bringing the gamecube action replay to my attention! I lost my gameboy player disk years ago and just cant find another affordable disk. It also makes it look much better! thats awesome!
I'm so glad you covered the Genesis Atgames Flashback console, I needed a new hammer tester! But really, I can't believe that Sega is having them make the OFFICIAL Mega Drive Mini. I'm just hoping they sneak some new top-notch unlicensed games on there, like Mr. Balls 2!
Mr. Balls ended on such a cliffhanger. It involved him, me, and the power switch. Will Mr. Balls be able to overcome the easy-to-flip power switch in his future adventures?
Aw, man. With the state of emulation today, and the availability of good microconsoles like the NES and SNES Mini, that AtGames thing is unforfuckingivable. It really reminds me of the days of those piece-of-crap flea market NES-on-a-chip clones which never looked or sounded quite right. Oh well, at least we know that Sega hasn't turned their back on their mid-90s M.O. of not having a single clue of what the hell they're doing. Oh, and as one of your subs since the Game Sack theme song was a fart noise, congrats on 200k. You guys make every other weekend Sacktacular.
As usual, your video is littered with errors. For example, the blowies ATGames gives Sega are NOT, as you say, "really good", but are actually only "average". JK! Awesome video! XD
1. Analogue announced a couple months back they are indeed working for a digital to analog converter for the Super NT and future systems. 2. With the Jailbroken firmware you can copy saves from a cart.
Abdul Hussain yeah, that’s what I was talking about and the sound is horrible, this is what happens when you go cheap and greedy with underpowered hardwAre and unoptimized emulation. I bet if they could’ve used a rpi or at least a license from retroarch at games could’ve got better results.
@@alfredocanas6802 True that, but considering RetroArch's mission statement, favoring it to be a FLOSS project (especially with different emulator cores having slightly varying license agreements) and not to be included with for-profit projects, that option is usually out of the window, so the next best option is to code decent emulation software themselves, but AtGames obviously can't do that, even if they were to sell AMD Threadripper emulation systems LOL.
Since this video was released, you can copy backup files from SNES cartridges to a SD card using the Super NT and the latest firmware. It can't write it back to the cart, though.
Thought we'd never see that Digital to Analog Converter eh? Well, it just so happens that the Digital to Analog Converter (DAC for short) is available for Pre-order on Analogue's website as we speak. It works with both the Super NT and Mega SG to allow play on a CRT and will likely be compatible with future Analogue consoles as well.
Great episode. And that ending skit ... simply brilliant. Great work. Oh, by the way ... we kinda need more Game Sack episodes. One every other week is not enough.
Congratulations joe and dave... 200k. Much love guys... you are probably one of the only retro channels i watch other than guru larry (and thats only because i have been following him since i myself was on gamesmaster in the 90s) ~ all the best now...

Awww excellent comedic ending! That was pure gold. Also, been a fan for years now and it's awesome to see you guys at 200k Subscribers. Congrats guys you deserve it!!
It's hilarious that both The Dreamcast Guy and John Hancock gave the At Games Genesis their stamp of approval when it came out. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that they both received a review product for free. It takes so little to buy the little guy.
OldsXCool Exactly man. I dont care what John Hancock says, either he is too nice to give them a bad review cause they give him products (and we cant trust him) or he has a soft spot for sega and we cant trust him. Either way...
OldsXCool Im glad someone else out there thought about John Hancock’s idiocy during this video. I thought I was the only one. I wish collectors and retro enthusiasts would vote with their wallets and not buy atgames shit consoles so maybe Sega would go with someone else. I wish they would get with kevtris or retro usb. One package you’d get a FPGA console and a working genesis mini. Really show atgames and their idiot fans up.
If you have a GBA and GBA link cable GBI is compatible with using GBA as a controller... Literally, it uploads software to the gba that makes it send Gamecube controller signals over the link cable, will work on number of games and GDQ TAS makers used same foundation for hilarious demonstrations by loading input sequences from GBA to gamecube.
This or using Raphnet's SNES controller to GC/Wii adapter adapter so you can use an SNES controller are the only ways to play the GameBoy Advance on the GameBoy Player. If you want to go wireless you can even chain it with the 8bitdo SNES adapter and use their bluetooth controller.

Excellent show as always guys. In part 3, you should consider doing an update on the SD2SNES flashcart. With all of Redguy's updates it has become even more useful. All FX (StarFox 1 & 2, Doom, Yoshi's Island, vortex, etc..) And SA-1 (Kirby Super Star, Super Mario RPG, Kirby Dreamland 3, Jikkyou Parodius, etc..) Enhanced chip roms are all now working thanks to him!
Much appreciated for the link to the action replay. I've been trying to find a well priced one from a reliable source for some time. Great video as always guys!
When talking about the Super NT when you said "You can add extra sprites but I haven't noticed a difference", you're looking for the wrong thing On emulators etc.. Removing the sprite limit does NOT add more sprites, it removes the emulated 'sprites per line' limit from the original system, that causes flicker on the older formats (where there are two many sprites in each line, so the console alternates which sprites it draws per frame, causing the flicker.) It only affects per-frame draw rates when there would normally be sprite flicker, slowdown is caused by the CPU drawing too many things and running too many cycles, whether they are on the same line or not. Its rare that SNES and Genesis games even had that 'sprites per line limit' problem, but on stuff like Master System, NES and Turbografx emulators it is hugely noticeable on some games. Hope it helps, great video as always guys, you were one of the first channels I subscribed to on RUclips and I've never regretted it
Awesome episode chaps! I can highly recommend the Super SD System 3 as money well spent! Saves having to find a CD add on, all the arcade cards and the expensive games. That ones a no brainier! Worth getting just for Rondo of Blood
Sega really needs to ditch @Games and hire developer M2 to make their new Mega Drive Mini. They are very talented developer who recognize how important emulation accuracy is. I love what they did with the 3DS Sega 3D Classics. They also did great work on Neo-Geo Station, Capcom Arcade Cabinet, Sega Vintage Classics, Namco Museum DS, Konami Arcade Classics DS, and many more.
synical13: Yeah, they have a long working history with Sega. Dating back to the PS2 Sega Ages 2500 games. Those releases are where many of the 3DS and Switch games were based on.
Probably zero I'm guessing. I'm not saying they should get out their and sclupt a Mega Drive out of ABS plastic, etc.. They would ideally be working on the software side of things.
I can't believe you guys have only just reached 200,000 subs. I've never looked at the sub count, I always just presumed you had like half a mil. You guys deserve way more subs than that, you're honestly one of my favourite channels. Been sub'ed for years.
So I used to do closed captioning for a living and I noticed this episode was fully captioned, and really well at that! I know how much time and effort goes into doing this and I just wanted to give you kudos.
Loving playing SNES and SFC games on the Super NT. The system is one of the best for SNES games so far. I'll be avoiding the AT Games version of the Sega Genesis. I have an original Genesis and I am glad it still works flawlessly. Great video!
Great video as always. The bit at the end was particularly cathartic for my hate boner for that crappy console. You might be glad to know that the GBA to GC link cable lets you use your GBA as a controller on GBI. Just plug your standard GCN controller into port one to navigate the Action Replay and Swiss menus and have the GBA in port two for when the game's booted and it'll work without issue.
Just got the remastered version of Shenmue 1 & 2 for the PS4. When are going to discuss that game in the next hd remasters episode. I know Joe has been raving like hell over that franchise so do it already so it’ll satisfy him and shut him up already.
I was hoping for an Analog Super NT episode on its own and nonetheless, I'm happy with this episode. Game Sack has helped me gain the purchasing confidence in both the Retro AVS and Analog Super NT. I'm all about using original carts and both deliver.
I would note that your Super Nt settings also rely on the user being able to disable overscan simulation on their TV (sometimes obtuse or impossible), as well as any other features that screw with the image (frame interpolation, for example).
Unless something has changed in the last few months, Analogue has officially mentioned that they're working on an analog adapter for the Super Nt (and all their future HDMI-based consoles). So it probably has a better chance of happening than not. While using a GameCube controller on the Game Boy Player isn't ideal, you can use almost any controller via adapters. You can use a real GBA using the GBA link cable, and adapters exist for almost any other controller you can think of. SNES controllers (via a SNES-to-GameCube adapter) and SNES Classic controllers (via a wiimote-to-GameCube adapter) are my recommendation. Raphnet's stuff works well with GBI.
Thank god Sega wizened up and had M2 do the Genesis Mini instead of AtGames. It does suck that it's still not perfect tho as it has that crappy sound effect lag. Still, I'm sure it's 100x better than an AtGames one would have been.
One thing that really should have been mentioned is that you don't need to get an Action Replay that comes with the SD Media Launcher reader, as you can buy a generic SD reader for the Gamecube off Ebay for just a few bucks. The Action Replays that come with the Media Launcher are MUCH more expensive than just buying the disk alone. You're much better off just buying the Action Replay disk and a generic SD reader separately. They work 100% identically to the Media Launcher. Also, if you don't want to shell out the crazy money for the Gamecube Component Cables or HDMI adapter and have a way to get RGB to your display, you can import a PAL Gamecube and use an RGB cable for a 240p RGB signal. Only the PAL Gamecubes output RGB so keep that in mind. This has been known to give an even better picture than an HDMI adapter as RGB handles 240p signals even better than the HDMI adapters do.
That Thunder Force IV comparison gave me a sharp pain in my core. Oh my god.

was going to say this exact thing...you would think they would have covered that
Can you use the jailbreak firmware to upload save RAM (say, from an emulator playthrough) back to an original cartridge, like the Retron5?

I freakin' love my Super NT and my Super SD3!
