As an Australian, you've definitely layered it a little thick, a little goes a long way with that stuff but ive been eating it since i was a kid and its just delicious. You just need to put down a layer of butter and then a scraping of Vegemite. It is definitely our version of PB&J. Tastes really good with cheese too.

In college we hosted the Women's Australian Basketball Team. They brought Vegemite, Aussie hats and Cigarettes. They were lots of fun, chain smokers and they beat us by 2 points. Go figure..they were big time drinkers too.. haha!! Good times. I remember it tasting like motor oil. It's really good for you! High in B vitamins.

Vegemite on Ritz crackers is awesome! Yes, it is an Aussie thing (I’m an American eating a favorite New Zealand spread or I would never have tasted it as an NZ friend gave me some...). It is basically brewer’s yeast and salt. No joke. Keep the spread light and thin and yeah it rocks. A spoonful would likely drive most anyone away! The last I heard was my NZ friend (who for respect shall remain nameless for this comment and was a great guy IRL) passed away from cancer not too long after I met him back in 2004 when he went back home. He will be missed!

Hahah - I always love watching an American's reaction to eating Vegemite. It's DELICIOUS!!! Vegemite got us through the Great Depression - people had no money, food was scarce & they worked HARD for a shilling - Vegemite was full of Vitamin B & salt to replace the body's lost salt because of heavy sweating. Australia is a very hot country in summer, so your body can lose a lot of essential salts when you do hard physical work. You can use it in gravy, casseroles, rib rubs...any sort of meat dish really - it enhances the flavour of meat. Bromide & Marmite are British & taste AWFUL. In the old days, when a jar of Vegemite was empty, you'd pour boiling water in the jar, swish it about & drink it down like tea. It's sacrilegious to waste a drop of Vegemite in Australia. For me personally, the BEST way to have it is on a big FAT toasted sandwich with buttered homemade bread, then Vegemite (thin to medium spread), fried bacon, ham, hot salami/pepperoni, tomato & melted cheese. The vegemite will really enhance the flavour. You can even marinate your pre-cooked bacon in a maple syrup/Vegemite mix to make it tastier. I enjoyed your fun video - made me crack up laughing. One thing is for sure - us Aussies LOVE our Vegemite LOL.

Good video. I never camp without a mountain pie maker. Pizza sandwiches, fruit fillings, eggs, deli meats and more. Never tried vegemite.
