    Now I love the original trilogy, but I don't hold them up as gospel like you guys do. And I think its awesome that you guys have that much passion for the OT, but for me, The Force Awakens definitely has a chance to be the best Star Wars movie to date.

      I think the point was that there could be a certain percentage of fans that are going to have very high expectations. Hopefully those fans don't have this notion that is "it better be better than Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi or bust"

      +Brooks Wilkins I dont think the original star wars movie is a marvel like they play it out to be. in my opinion it is the weakest of the original trilogy, simply because the emotional impact of most of the scenes isnt as good as the other movies (except Obi vs Vader). The Empire strikes back i would say was edited the best, meaning every second of film isnt wasted. Return of the Jedi in my opinon is the best because more scenes carry more emotional impact (primarily everything between luke and vader and then with the emperor later on)

      It will definitely be better than Return of the Jedi and most likely A new Hope but I really doubt it will be better than the Empire Strikes Back

    If Rey is a Solo, why the hell is she living on her own as a scavenger when she's of royal blood. Did she run away? Was she disowned?
    On the other hand, if she's Luke's daughter, and he's disappeared, that would make more sense that she's now on her own and fending for herself.

      +coolwhipspecial yeah the whole PRINCESS Leia thing is something that seems to slip people's minds a lot of the time. No one even considers the fact after Jedi that when Han and Leia hook up Han is going to be sitting in some throne room somewhere.

      +Blake Walker She goes by Queen Leia now. Thats always been the confusing part to me. Is she REALLY better off in this desert planet? I think its one of those situations where Rey would be safer with Han and Leia and a military around her than suffering as a scavenger on Jakku lol...
      Seems like shes Lukes baby girl, but her just being a local and offspring of a character in the book would suffice. I was really pulling for Hux to be the big reveal as Lukes son.

    • @Nemoticon

      +coolwhipspecial Solo's are not royal blood. In fact, Solo's are effectively 'no-bodies' coming from a slaving background. Leia was adopted and raised by the Organa's, so even then, her so called 'nobility' is not really legitimate.

    I think Han and Leia broke up the day after the Battle of Endor. She then had a one night stand with Jar-Jar Binks in which Kylo Ren was conceived. Meanwhile Han, on the rebound, hooked up with Mon Mothma, and they had a daughter named Rey. While force ghost Hayden Christensen having already eliminated his rival, force ghost Sabastian Shaw, decides to play matchmaker. He introduces Luke to Uhura from the Star Trek Universe. With J.J. Abrams officiating, Luke and Uhura marry, and later produce a son named Finn.

    The original trilogy has a special place in our hearts not just because we saw it when we were kids, but it was also the first time that a science fiction film was cinematically ambitious.
    Before Star Wars, science fiction primarily consisted of campy low budget serials intended for children. Star Wars was inspired by those serials, such as Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon, but George Lucas managed to bring a depth and urgency to the genre that we had never seen before.
    Now that we've seen both the science fiction and fantasy genres evolve throughout the years, a new Star Wars film won't likely have the same visual impact that the original films did, which is why it's crucial that the story carries TFA like no other Star Wars film before it.

    There's a few great female characters in canon. My list:
    1. Asajj Ventress (Clone Wars, Dark Disciple)
    2. Princess Leia
    3. Ahsoka Tano (Clone Wars, Rebels)
    4. Ciena Ree (Lost Stars)
    5. Mon Mothma
    6. Isval (Lords of the Sith)
    7. Hera Syndulla (Rebels, Kanan comics)
    8. Sabine (Rebels, Kanan comics)
    9. Satine (Clone Wars)
    10. Doctor Aphra (Vader comics)

      Ivan Cherganski
      Yeah, I like her very much. You can hate Ahsoka, that's your opinion, I have no problem with that.
      I seriously think that The Clone Wars was her show. It peaked with season 5. After she left, season 6 was just a mess.
      I don't understand why Campea hates her so much. Don't forget that she's just a kid in the show. Luke was a whiny stupid kid at the beginning of Star Wars, but he became one of the greatest Jedi we've ever seen. Ep 6 Luke is my favourite character in the whole universe.
      I'm sure you'll like Ahsoka in Rebels.

    • @ColliderLadiesNight
      @ColliderLadiesNight  9 лет назад +4

      +evandest1983 And? Two totally different situations. My point was that a movie doesn't have to be as good or better than the previous film to be GREAT. A movie can still be GREAT even if not as good as the original. With THE DARK KNIGHT RISES... it was not a great movie. My problem isn't that it wasn't as good as the previous film... my problem was that it was a significant step backwards in quality and couldn't even be qualified as a great movie on its own merits.

    • @evandest1983

      +evandest1983 The Dark Knight Rises isn't a great movie on its own. At best, it's pretty good - but there are so many problems within it and it blows my mind that people give many of the glaring issues a pass.

    95% Heres my crazy theory: Han and Leia are estranged and split because of the death of their kid(s) a long time ago. They THINK the kids (also twins) are dead, but they were abducted by First Order or Sith (Order of Ren?) forces and raised apart not knowing their heritage. They are Daisy Ridley as orphaned homeless (Kira?)Rey and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, First Order/Order of Ren(?) enforcer, and force relic Hunter. (Luke & Leia=Kylo & Kira?!?)

    • @langleymneely
      @langleymneely 9 лет назад +1

      Eventually the children will be reunited and revealed to the family (Skywalker-Solo) in Force Awakens, both positively (Rey discovering her heritage off of Jakku) and negatively (Hans death at Kylos hand?!) This creates genuine suspense and mystery, while being a great mirror reflection of Luke & Leia. Unlike the Extended Universe/ Legends material I think Luke grew into his power as a Jedi and NEVER had children, possibly fearing the childs future fate with the darkside. There might have been a Mara Jade, or Mara Jade-like figure in his life, but no kids. I also think Max Von Sydow has been Rey's 'watcher' on Jakku, keeping a devious eye on her development, the evil mirror Ben Kenobi. I'm dying to hear other people's thoughts on this? Am I completely grasping at straws? What are your plot theories?

    • @langleymneely
      @langleymneely 9 лет назад

      What is funny is the piece of info that helped me most was the dialogue from the Kylo Ren and Finn talking action figures. Kylo says "you really are just a scavenger" which I interpreted as him talking to Rey because he thought she was a Skywalker, but thinks not because SHE has no real clue who her parents are, until running into Han and fugitive Finn. Kylo is like the mirror Leia but adopted by the Empire/First Order instead of Organa and the Rebels. Rey is the analog for Luke, poor kid stranded in the wasteland only dreaming of more. I also got the idea she is clueless aout her parentage because i heard that she freaks out when she leaves Jakku on the Falcon with Han and Finn because she has never been off world before, and never seen a jungle or snow (types of weather from two of the locations in the film)

    • @langleymneely
      @langleymneely 9 лет назад

      ***** Here is my thought on that, they get abducted and in the middle of the abduction the ship they are on explodes leading everyone to think they are dead after exhausting an investigation that leads Leia to think they are gone, and Han to resent that notion as he and Chewy fly off exploring every lead no matter what the "odds are" (sorry couldn't resist). That's how they split up.
      Meanwhile we learn it was a ploy to kidnap the children and use them for the dark side by what ever villain at that time (First Order, Empire, Knight of Ren, Snoke etc). The explosion was a ruse, maybe made to look like Solo accidentally shot the ship down, adding more tension to Leia and Hans relationship. This is just one spitballed theory i have.
      As far as when it happens, it could be directly after Leia gave birth, or a few years later when they are 1 or 2, just as long as its early enough for them to either have no concrete memories of their pasts, or just enough memory to be manipulated into thinking their parents were evil (which is more in line with Kylo Ren).
      Now how the two are separated and raised apart could be, as I wildly speculated, purposeful like with Luke and Leia, or accidental. Maybe someone secreted Rey away, maybe Max Von Sydow as this so called described blue alien confidante on Jakku? (Thats from a reported leaked bit of info from the last 2 years of SW speculation and prodding. in all its the best I could come up with. Watch not one thing I'm speculating comes close to being true! lol

    Im going to say something that will be unpopular with older fans but may be supported by younger ones. These films will probably be better films than the first three. Effects are better, talent is better, and more importantly, the people putting these films out know how much this franchise means to the fans. The reason fans of the originals may not like these as much is simply because they arent the originals. People who watched nosferatu and frankenstein initially believed no movie could be as scary. Why? Simply because there was nothing like it at the time. It does not take away from any of the films that wanted to be original at the time, but the truth is, It was great THEN, however if it came out now, it wouldn't hold a candle to what we have available. I sometimes hear critics ask younger fans to see older movies but i would counter with asking older critics to understand how HARD it is to watch a movie with the production value of a sci fi channel movie when most movies that have come out in our lifetime compare to wide release movies as far as production value. Most things that come out now would get positive reviews in the 1900s. So can you really get upset if young fans of things like star wars think that the movies coming out now will blow the older ones away?

    campea seems to be one of those star wars fans that holds the original films as a deity - a god. His "fear" of star wars fans not thinking this movie was as good as the originals so that means they are bad - and then says there is no way it CAN be better than the original. Why does it matter what fans think of the movie? All that matters is what you think. I guarantee campea hates the prequels and calls anyone who enjoys them as "wrong" or not real star wars fans.
    I was 6 years old when the phantom menace came out. I was at an age where I couldn't dislike any film - i loved the prequels as a child. As I've grown older, that does not mean I do not enjoy them anymore, although I do realize their flaws. I still like them. Many of the original trilogy fans are cold and unwelcoming to many newer star wars fans because they believe everyone should agree with them that the original trilogy is the holiest of holies. Yes they are better than the prequels, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy them. All 6 films were part of my childhood, and the next 6 that come out I will still enjoy regardless.

    I am 95% that Rey is Luke's daughter. The only side-note to this is in the behind-the-scenes video that has been released there is a shot with Han and Rey in the cockpit of the Falcon and it LOOKS like a scene being shot. That might suggest that Rey is Han's daughter. I LOVE that there is all of this discussion, which is certainly better than what we had when the prequel trilogy started. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

    I 100% agree with john and his fear of unrealistic expectations. I personally cannot wait for this movie, I got two days off work to watch this movie over and over, but the point is my expectations will be checked before going in. I'm actually quite aware that jj Abrams isn't the greatest of directors, he's good, but not the greatest. My expectations are reasonable for this film, I'm just happy Star Wars is back. And I'm gonna try to convince my friends to think the same way.

    Ciena and Thane were about 24-25 at the time of the Battle of Jakku. The Force Awakens happens roughly 30 years after that. So Rey could easily be their daughter.

    Before the prequel trilogy, we were only given the story of Lukes heritage through old stories. They could still cover that as part of Luke's child's conception by referencing an older story as a possible reason for Luke's potential 'hermit' life. There was never a full real about what happened to Lukes father until that old famous moment we all love. That type of story telling could work again, if done right.

    Regarding the Dark Side vs Light Side question, my idea was always that the Force is just the Force, it has no good or bad side. It is the intention of the user that makes it good or bad. So a good guy like Luke could certainly tap into some abilities that are typically associated with the Dark Side, without being evil. Luke certainly used the Dark Side in Jedi, like you said. I don't think he could have defeated Vader if he hadn't given in to anger in the end, which is also a Dark Side technique.

    As long as it's better than the prequals I'm happy. The originals were the first movies I ever remember watching when I was 3, they have always been a huge part of my life. I grew up seeing the prequals at the cinema (I was born in 1994) & they inspired me to be a fiction writer. Although I know they aren't that good I can watch them endlessly like the originals because it's that Star Wars sensation!
    If TFA lives up to half the hype it could easily be seen as better than the originals because, even though to me they make me feel like no other movies do, a lot of people in my generation don't appreciate the originals as many consider them as "old & outdated". Not to mention all the other great movies that have spoilt us the last 2 decades e.g. Lord of the Rings, Dark Knight Trilogy not to mention the best cinema experience I ever had was seeing Avengers Assemble. This new Star Wars could be what A New Hope was to the older generations & me, it could best them all if they get it right.

    Star Wars 7 is going to be the best Star Wars film I am positive, I would not even worry. The talent behind it, the new technologies behind it, the massive universe they have to play in (thanks to the world build in the prequels), the 30 years of anticipation, the back log of expanded universe material they can draw from, the new cannon (comics books games).
    Star Wars 7 is going to open and the second that crawl comes up its going to be pay off, after pay off, after pay off, and it will be fantastic.

    At 1:08 Kristian says something that they may be blocking from the prequel. They stated that the prophecy says that the chosen one would "bring balance to the force" perhaps Luke has found or is searching for that balance between light and dark.

    I was wondering the same about Thane and Ciena being Rey's parents too. They are exactly the same age as Luke and Leia as they were born in the same year that the Empire was created and the timeline for Rey's age seems pretty perfect (obviously depending on what happens with Ciena in the next chapter of her story).

    Hey guys, does anyone realize that the second last fan question here & the speculation/answers to it so deeply reminds of Dark Empire symbolically! Dark Empire is Expanded Universe & not canon, I know, but we already do know for a fact that the canon DOES use the EU for inspiration & even using some events with new twists, like that the Anakin/Luke blue lightsaber coming back as just one example, that was from the Thrawn trilogy after all & see what has shown up for TFA. I am a major Dark Empire fan myself, I loved the idea of Luke tampering with the Dark Side to understand it & also understand his father, learning about it to do good, but he fails & nearly falls. But that is nearly, never actually falling. If any of that actually does come forth in the new trilogy, even with new twists to it, I'm gonna make back flips of joy! I have always believed that you can never get full understanding of the Force, or as close to that anyway, if you don't study both the Light & Dark. The prequels are not great but they kept the insistance of the balance of the Force. How can there be balance if you just focus on one side? Maybe Luke has been doing something the past 30 years that very few before him, if ever, has done, found knowledge in both the Light & the Dark? And maybe that didn't work out so well? But maybe what he knows, what he has learned will become essential to save the day in this new trilogy? Maybe he was destined to fail so that he could later on be successful? Reminds a lot of his father, after all, who fell first & then redeemed himself. Luke can follow in a similar path but not in actually turning to the Dark.

    Mark said Exactly what I was thinking, there is just No way that this film will exceed or be on par with fan expectations, I thinks its Impossible and people will just be disappointed, no matter how good the film turns out to be. It does not need to be the best film so far, it just needs to be at least good, hopefully Brilliant but even then there will be someone that will not be satisfied. I just hope it manages to bring back some of that magic and mysticism of the original, that is all anyone can ask for really. May the Force be strong with this one.

    Slightly wild speculation, but I think Rey is Luke's daughter whose memory was wiped as a child by Luke following an attack on his Jedi temple (maybe by the Knights of Ren), who then left Rey to live a safer life on Jakku with an Obi-Wan-like character (possibly Von Sydow) to look over her

    I think Kylo is Luke's kid cause it makes sense to me for that for a few reasons.
    1. It explains Luke being in hiding. his son went to the Darth Side, and Luke went to be like Obi-Wan after that.
    2. Makes the Vader connection more emotional like Kylo sees his dad as a villain that killed the Great Darth Vader.
    3. Is a nice twist of the Father and Son angle of the films. With it being father trying to save his son now. not the reverse.
    4. Not to sound sexist but if they want the Skywalker name to continue. I think that means Kylo is a Skywalker.

    i remember watching the old repulbic synematic videos when I was younger and always though "why the heck don't they just keep making these? They could make them forever." Honestly, at the end of the day, lets just be so happy that we are actually getting more Star Wars movies. I honestly never thought this would happen, and now that Disney owns the franchise, the skys the limit with Star Wars.
