Thanks so much! Now I won’t be afraid to WEAR my beautiful and precious Hermes scarf, that my husband purchased for me on our trip to Paris, for fear I might stain it! I will enjoy wearing it and properly caring for it. Out from the beautiful orange box it will come!
I've always handwashed our Hermes and other silk scarves, as well as fine cashmeres, in lukewarm water and Woolite or a similar liquid soap. There is nothing to it. Can't understand why people are scared of it. Soak for a while if needed, don't scrub with anything other than a soft horsehair brush, don't rub hard, don't wring, rinse well, dry hanging open (cashmere knits must be laid out flat on a towel), steam-iron gently on a silk setting - I don't even use a pressing cloth, I just make darn sure the plate of the iron is squeaky clean.
Just bought a ton of Silk in Lake Como, Italy because I knew I could care for them from your book. I love the videos even more to learn the exact techniques.
I love it. I have been washing my silks since forever. Even my blouses. Lately, I wash my silk scarves and hold them in front of the fan for 10 minutes until they're 90% dry and then iron them. This works beautifully! If the colour bleeds a little while in the water I add a step of rinsing it in cold water with a handful of salt to fasten the colour ( for about 2 minutes) and then rinse in clear water and hang.
I just spilled herbal tea on my vintage Hermes scarf. I’m so glad I found your channel❤ this is invaluable information. I ordered the cleaning products from you shop so I can repeat your process. Thank you!!
I got soy sauce on my Hermes and am still crying every time I reach to wear it. I did dry clean it and the spot is still there. I will try and clean it today and see if I have better results. Maybe your goodself have other ideas. I have subscribed to your channel today. Thank you so much.
The carre looks beautiful and you did a wonderful job. Would you describe the soap you are using, speak to its pH, etc. Detergents can be caustic and I am sure the product you used also made a huge difference.
Hello , I've just discovered your channel. I'll be watching other episodes to see what good advice you have there. ❤ I have a marker stain on the white part of a cashmere sweater. 😢. Ive washed it several times and it wont come out. Any suggestions?
I bought a silk filled comforter and 2 silk pillows in China 5 years ago. I finally got brave enough to air them out in the clothes dryer but I did not have dryer balls. The silk in the comforter bunched up. I've been able to stretch out the silk a little. I'd really like to return it to its former glory. Any hints?
Yes. The corner of the scarf should be lightly pinned down. Then iron with the grain of the fabric, holding each section firm. Move the pin as you proceed around the scarf. Never iron a rolled hem and most dry cleaners will.
Great video. Thank you for giving a confidence boost to many :) How to wash silk fabric that bleeds colors? Is there way to make it colorfast? Thank you,
I wash mine with shampoo, rinse and roll it in a clean towel to get the water off, then hang to dry and iron while humid. Excess dry cleaning in very aggressive to clothes .
I tried getting the stains out of my scarf using your exact instructions on your video but it did not come out and I tried twice. Any suggestions? I used vinegar and water and a horsehair brush and laundry bar soap
Thanks for this. Another entire video could be dedicated to pressing the hem area. Yours was buckling a bit close to the hem. Other experts recommend pinning the corner of the scarf to the ironing board cover and very carefully ironing next to the rolled hem. This is the finishing touch. I would also recommend letting the finished scarf dry completely (e.g. 48 hours) prior to replacing it in its box. Tips learned from an elegant French woman.
1. I'll be purchasing soap flakes (memories of Ivory Snow Flake ads) and am confused. Will you please recommend a brand or what ingredients to avoid? 2. Is that Ivory bar soap you are using for the spots?
Wonderful video! Thank you so much, I just discovered you and love what you do! Are there any issues with washing a silk georgette? I can't remember where I read it but I remember noting that water will change the hand and appearance. I have a piece that needs some stains removed, the label says it's dry clean only and not to wash it but I also don't have any non toxic dry cleaners near me so I'd almost rather chance it at home. It's a quality piece, a lovely printed kaftan and I don't think the colors will run. Anyway, I'm a fan, looking forward to seeing more!
I just saw that you are going to answer questions on RUclips so in the event this ends up in a video I’ll add that the stain is fresh, it’s a little tomato and oil. I blotted it with a dry napkin and then a little water at the restaurant and put baking soda on it at home. And just researching to see what I can do myself/hopefully save a dry cleaning trip. Thank you!
I have a silk blouse by Joie that has an old oil stain about the size of a pencil eraser. Is there any hope of getting a set oil stain out of silk, and if so, would I use the stain stick and horse hair brush as shown in the video? Thank you so much!
For any oily stains, just press in some baby powder i to them, let it sit for a few minutes, and brush it off with another fabric or soft brush. They will lift right off! This works best on silk, on other fabrics you might need to do it a couple of times!
@@thelaundryevangelistwould a plant based bar of hand soap be okey? Like the French Savon the Marseille? If I use a rasp to make some flakes? And is a little drop of fabric softener in the water okey?
I've some Hermes from my grandmother ie very vintage, and more modern ones. All are hand-washed by me, and I can truly say I've never had a problem but for one vintage scarf of very deep teal which ran slightly. I've been washing mine since I was a teenager and it's so much better than chemical cleaning. Be brave!
May I ask where that is? Anytime I have had one cleaned, the crushed the rolled hem through a pressing machine. Would you be able to share where you went? Thank you.@@mizzmolly7649

Great news, you should wear and love it!
Its so easy

The older Hermes scarves run a lot easier than the newer ones.
Thank you. It's time to wash my one of my beautiful scarves, and you are the laundry expert.
Just bought a ton of Silk in Lake Como, Italy because I knew I could care for them from your book. I love the videos even more to learn the exact techniques.
Thanks. I am sure that trip was amazing

Agreed. The salt water stage is critical to avoid colour running.
I love these videos!! There’s something so reassuring seeing it done versus reading how to do it!! Love you Patric!
Thank you

Thank you for this it’s really helped me on how to wash and dry/ iron silk
I’ve ordered similar products to you so wash day on Sunday
Wonderful video. I had asked that question on the live and now I'm not afraid the wash mine.
I am glad it is a video, it's easier to see than explain. Thanks. Have fun washing btw
Hi Gorgeous!! New subbie came over referred by Frozen luxury omg love 💕 it
i have a quick question, how do i clean my versace silk shirt? on the label it says no wash only delicate dry clean?
Good video. What is it that you sprinkled in the water? Detergent?
The carre looks beautiful and you did a wonderful job. Would you describe the soap you are using, speak to its pH, etc. Detergents can be caustic and I am sure the product you used also made a huge difference.
Other experts recommend using some mild shampoo and applying gently with a Q-tip. The brushing makes me a bit nervous.
What kind of iron is it that you use? You said quickly but, I missed it. Thank you
It is a Laurastar, they are on our website at laundryevangelist.com

Love the video. It is so helpful to actually see how to do things!!
Do you avoid pressing tge hand rolled edges?
Yes. The corner of the scarf should be lightly pinned down. Then iron with the grain of the fabric, holding each section firm. Move the pin as you proceed around the scarf. Never iron a rolled hem and most dry cleaners will.
Thank you so much for this video ! I have a Hermès scarf, and I wouldn't have dared to wash it myself ... so now I will 😊
Great video. Thank you for giving a confidence boost to many :)

Add a big handful of salt to the water.
I wash mine with shampoo, rinse and roll it in a clean towel to get the water off, then hang to dry and iron while humid. Excess dry cleaning in very aggressive to clothes .
Do you recommend storing them in the box they came in?
Normally I wouldn't, and I don't at home, buy there is magic in that box for sure
I tried getting the stains out of my scarf using your exact instructions on your video but it did not come out and I tried twice. Any suggestions? I used vinegar and water and a horsehair brush and laundry bar soap
Do you have any recommendations on getting fabric tape off my Hermés scarf?
What temp should the water be?
It is warm, like bath temp

I thought the dry cleaners claiming to be non-toxic were actually just using water anyway?@@robinmackillop4821
I have always washed my Hermès scarves…. Dry cleaning fluids would be awful 😮
Kindred spirits!

It will come out, but you will probably need an oily soap like archipelago spot remover first, then soap and a brush
For any oily stains, just press in some baby powder i to them, let it sit for a few minutes, and brush it off with another fabric or soft brush. They will lift right off! This works best on silk, on other fabrics you might need to do it a couple of times!
Ok. I'm going to wash my vintage, thrifted. Hermes scarf! And I'm old enough to have a steam iron and ironing board...
Fabulous, it will be super easy
Wow! Amazing!!!!
Yes…how can I fix my scarf now its gone all soft. Its brand new. I thought it would be ok to wash but its very thin now
Do you sell the soap?
Thank you!! Would you please recommend a good soap? Is woolite ok?
Use a plant based detergent or soap, please don't use woolite it can lift the color
@@thelaundryevangelistwould a plant based bar of hand soap be okey? Like the French Savon the Marseille? If I use a rasp to make some flakes? And is a little drop of fabric softener in the water okey?
What kind of soap flake should. I buy? Can i ise teeth brush?
fabulous - thank you for posting! xX
I didn’t notice, did you avoid the rolled hems when you ironed? Thanks 😊
I ironed up to their edge, but did not go across them
What is the soap you are using?
Can you do a NO ANNOYING BACKGROUND NOISE 🎼 version?
Anyone know how to get red bleeding out 😢
Thank you that’s very helpful but still afraid.

Tyring to decide which soap to buy/use for silk and other super delicates?
I use soap flakes for everything
Shampoo works.
Do not wash a green Hermès scarf, it is the color that runs , Hermès can not fix the green color.
Or the navy. I was heartbroken when I washed my navy Hermes. 😢 Thanks for this video tho!
Did you add a handful of salt to the water?
Or purple. My Tendresse Feline found out the hard way.
I found a dry cleaners that cleans Hermes scarves. They do an excellent job.
May I ask where that is? Anytime I have had one cleaned, the crushed the rolled hem through a pressing machine. Would you be able to share where you went? Thank you.@@mizzmolly7649
Don’t the crisp texture disseapeare when handwash
Not if you iron it.
you forgot to rinse the Hermes scarf
Watch carefully
