"just invade Britain" is the equivalent of "Are you homeless? Well, just buy a house"
No no no, it's simple, starting in 1932, secretly because they are still under the disarmament treaties, they divert all steel and oil to warship production so at the time of the war they have a large navy still incapable of going toe to toe with the British fleet and not enough tanks and artillery to take Poland and France in the first place. that way the Soviets and Americans don't get involved in the war because it ends in 1941 in a German capitulation. And because America and the Soviet union aren't involved it's not a world war and therefore Germany doesn't lose world war 2.
Actually, this is not so simple. Author just lacks knowledge. Battle in the was not one sided, Luftwaffe was very close to destroy last aerodroms that were used by British fighters, But... After bombing of Berlin, Goering switched the target to bomb London in act of revenge. So the chance for German victory in British sky was lost.
@@alexzero3736Even if they succeeded there they needed their ancient logistics to support an invasion by sea. And there was a guy I don’t remember his name but said they would fight them on the beaches and the landing grounds and the hills and the streets and that the Royal Navy would continue the fight if they somehow by an act of God managed to take the British Isles.
At least it makes more sense than “just give Rommel more tanks so he can capture El-Alamein.”
This still doesn't change anything. Lets assume Germany takes Britain. They are going to suffer heavy casualties, they are essentially going to be crippled for the rest of the war. They are on the backburner for years. And as mentioned in the video, an invasion of the Soviet Union was inevitable, in no reality will Germany get a large enough manpower to take over the Soviet Union. A German takeover of the British Isles isn't feasible. The Blitz over London failed, Germany has no good navy to ever conquer the English channel. British had cracked radar early enough to essentially demolish any attack on their homeland. This isn't even mentioning the fact the US got in the war a year later.@@suzumes6738

People forget that even if Germany won, it would be a short lived victory.
With such a huge amount of territory and not enough men to garrison it all, rebellions would literally happen every week. It would die within years .
Even if Germany actually did won, there's just one word: economy
Adam Tooze greatly explains in his book 'The Wages of Destruction' the absolute dumpster fire that was Nazi Germany's economy during WW2 and how it was only kept on life support by the war spoils of the countless countries they invaded. So even if they had won their economy wouldn't even make it past the 60's before it just implodes, I guess that's what happens when you base your entire economy off of invading other countries and stealing literally everything that isn't bolted down.
There would have been so many volunteers and conscripts from other countries who would have served Germany.
You say that but much of eastern Europe despised the communists and would have welcomed the Nazis as in fact they did. There's also the fact that the Nazis didn't plan on keeping those people around, had they won death camps would have been killing tens of millions of people... And there are countries in the war that could have deployed large numbers of soldiers but never did, Brazil for example entered the war in 1942 but only deployed 30.000 troops, even though it was a country that in the 40s had a similar size to the US

You can't lose a war...
If you don't declare one (Switzerland, 1914-1945)
You good sir, have made my day 😂
More like (Switzerland, 1847 - the end of the universe)
But then...
You can't win war
I played a game of HoI4 as France where I extended the Maginot line to the sea and left Belgium to be gobbled up.
Even without Germany declaring war on Soviets (who in turn were polite enough to maintain the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact and just expand into Afghanistan) Germany, Italy and later Spain could just not achieve breakthrough against France as the French army was not caught out of position in Belgium like its historical counterpart.
After a succesful but extremely costly Scandinavian conquest, Germany decided to invade Switzerland to get at the "gap" in my defences between the Maginot and Italian lines. However, due to superior Allied code-breaking I knew of this plan and the moment German troops began fighting the Swiss (who promptly joined the Allied) I sent an entire army group to reinforce the Swiss. And the whole promptly turned into another meat grinder for the Wehrmacht.
By this point (1943) both Spain and Italy were occupied, Benelux was liberated and American troops were landing by the millions in Europe, and Germany had to shoot its own industry in the foot just to get enough warm bodies in uniform to stem the Allied tide.
The liberation of Denmark proved to be the final nail in the German coffin as it cut off a fair number of divisions in Scandinavia which were promptly encircled and destroyed by French armored divisions.
1944 saw French, British, American, Belgian, Australian, Canadian, Indian and Swiss troops steamroll across the entirety of the Western front, finally ending the war in Europe when French armored divisions punched through the disintegrating German lines protecting Vienna (as Berlin fell three weeks prior)
So even with being dragged into a (fictional, alternative) version of ww2 the Swiss still managed to come out on top.

“Just invade Britain” is hilarious to me. While not as difficult Russia, Britain is and has been one of the most notoriously difficult countries to invade. While the last successful invasion was William III and the Dutch in 1688, they had massive amounts of help from English Parliament and English dissent against King James II. Also, I see another idea that if the Germans made peace with the British, they could have focused on the Soviets. With Churchill in charge and his never surrender attitude, this scenario would have never happened.
Just invade Britain is the same as "Just Win"
@@artanisplays3982 “just take Moscow, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Grozny, and push the Soviets to the Urals” is honestly something one of my friends said in regards to how Germany could’ve won. My reaction was just to nod along.
Just as a curiosity I want to say that Spain once successfully invaded a (very small) part of England, but the invasion did not last long because it was not intended to maintain a long occupation, only to burn some villages and loot a bit (it was more like a attack-leave operation but still curious). Also after that they decided to do a Catholic mass on English soil:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raid_on_Mount%27s_Bay
William of Orange wasn't really an invasion, he was literally invited. Realistically the last actual invasion was 1066 which was only successful because the King had to fight two separate wars in the space of a few weeks, had the Bastard invaded a year before or after it's almost certain he would have lost
Really the biggest issue regarding the invasion of england was that the germans even put as much effort to it as they did. It was a doomed effort from the start, which some generals noticed very early on. It was a giant waste of ressources.
That being said, that decision wouldn't have changed the outcome of the war in any meaningful way. The only remotely realistic way I could see is if Germany and Japan had been proper allies. Yes, that's a lot of alternate history, but I don't think it's entirely implausible that Japan & Germany could've developed closer ties in the 30s and thus invaded the soviet union together.
They should of just waited for Steiner's counterattack

Hello There
Hey
Hi
Something I see a lot of people gloss over is the fact that Germany was The equivalent of that player in fighting games that knows one combo and spams it incessantly, This particular combo being the two hit sequence of armored blitzkrieg into rapid encirclement. The exceptions being the British campaign and the Africa campaign but that's only because those fronts were fairly limited in how they could be fought. But I would bet money that the first thing the Nazis would have done upon a successful landing and foothold in Britain was establish an armored spearhead and push to encircle London. Disregarding resource and manpower shortages, ideological changes, variable time frames and alliances, if Germany were to have ever had a wing and a prayer at victory they would have needed to learn a different fucking tactic.
Germany vs World 0-10 matchup.
The Axis vs. the empire backed by the Soviets ( economic ties & even the historically discussed Axis membership in 1940 ) & the USA respectively is a very different situation. It could easily end with a napoleonic victory aka, a stalemate that leaves Europe under absolute totalitarian control with the majority of the fighting happening in Africa as the Bosporus becomes the focus of the war.
Even Africa used monotonous tactics where possible. In fact, the lauded Rommel almost exclusively used breakthrough and encirclement tactics where possible, and struggled when that was not possible, like when taking Tobruk and when attacking El Alamein.
Germany mains:"these Russian mains just throw themselves at you with their enormous man power and just brainlessly push to grapple your capital"
Not even the complete contrary in africa too
Rommel still spammed *concentrated attack on thin enemy line*
Had a friend in high school who always wanted to play Germany in the board game Axis & Allies and would throw everything he had at Britain on his first turn without fail (despite it being set in 1942). Is like saying if only the guy that said one should go over and kill all Slavic people went over and tried to kill all Slavic people.
Never seen someone who theorized about the "no invade Soviet" scenario touch on the fact that the Soviet thing was so central to both Nazi philosophy and poletics that everything between 1920-45 would be different
What people fail to understand about this is that that was Hitler’s goal. His endgame. It’s core to the Nazi ideology and racial hierarchy. He wanted Lebensraum, and he outright said “Germany’s future is in the East”. He didn’t even really want to fight the British or French because he respected their colonial empires and racism. Saying “don’t invade the Soviet Union” is like saying “don’t be nazis”. It takes away a core aspect of who they were.
The soviets were also planning to invade western europe before. One of the reasons Barbarossa was initially so successful was because the russians had *offensive* preparations, not defensive ones.
The idea destroying the BEF at Dunkirk would have made a difference is bizarre. 215,000 British troops were rescued at Dunkirk. By the end of the war Britain had 6million men under arms.
The successful retreat at Dunkirk was a major propaganda victory in another wise pretty major loss people tend to assume if it has gone the other way Britain would automatically become demoralised they would just give up and sue for peace. Really churchill would've retroactively downplayed it.
@@joeyjojojrshabadoo7462 That is assuming he would have gotten the support. Churchill’s past military career and political career was filled with what were seen as disasters. According to string theory, every permutation of matter is possible, except Germany winning wwii
People don't seem to realize it's not as simple as "oh well don't attack Russia." Germany overstretched it's boundaries by a _lot_ even before Barbarossa. Keep in mind with every country Germany took over, they had to have occupation troops there to keep Partisans from taking gaining too much control which takes away manpower (especially when you look at Yugoslavia where the Partisans were fierce and took very large chunks of territory). So with troops in Poland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands, Yugoslavia, Greece, half of France (on top of prewar conquests like Austria and Czechoslovakia) that's a lot of resources being used up. That's money, troops, weapons, resources, you name it being used. Germany's main goal *was* the USSR so Germany not attacking was incredibly unlikely.
They act as if every other nation was an AI that can’t make their own decisions to stall or hinder German expansion.
@@Void_Wars Exactly. Especially when you look at Yugoslavia and Greece the Partisans were _fierce_ and basically kicked out the Germans on their own. The French and Polish Resistance were very devoted and were a major headache to the Germans. They were derailing trains, they were stealing weapons and vehicles. They would assassinate officers. The countries Germany had conquered even though they were occupied played huge roles in hindering the war effort. Much of Germany's resources was holding onto territories and trying to stop Partisans. Which of course took away from the front lines.
@@Jiji-the-cat5425 and to the people that in ist that “Adolf should’ve just waited” don’t know that the Soviets would either get even more armed and ready for war or just counter push Germany.

Nice talking with you tho!
If the Soviets attack, they risk the remains of the Allies ( mainly Great Britain ) supporting the Nazis because the Soviets controlling even more of Europe would mess even more the fragile power balance on the continent.
The Soviets would also have to deal with partisans and even though the Nazis were monstrous, the Soviets were never popular among their subjects. They wouldn’t have support from the USA either if the Nazis had a white peace with the British.
Every small change requires an entirely different universe due to determinism so not attacking the Soviets in a completely different timeline is not really that much of a stretch.

Quite true. We just decided not to make the same mistake we made in 1918, allowing Germans to surrender while on foreign territory.

Even if Hitler had not risen to power, territorial expansion including the concept of Lebensraum, was very popular in Germany particularly amongst the German General Staff. Compounding this is that nearly all of Germany's top Generals agreed with or at least tacitly approved of Hitler's goals. Lets say not a Fascist dictatorship but a Military dictatorship came to power, or the Kaiser was restored (the idea had support even when Hitler came to power), Germany would have still started WWII.
As Marshal Foch put it regarding the Treaty of Versailles; "This is not peace, it is an armistice for twenty years".

Let me make it perfectly clear for the people who say "they should've just invaded Great Britain instead of invading the USSR" or "they should've put all their resources into Great Britain":
What do you think the Battle of Britain was for? The Battle of Britain would've gave way for an invasion (but not really cus gaining air superiority over Britain wouldn't exactly deal with the Royal Navy, which would slaughter Germany's amphibous invasion) and therefore it was vital that it had to be won so Germany dispatched it's entire Luftwaffe up to the task but in the end, it was a battle of attrition.
The Luftwaffe was destroying plane after plane but the Royal Air Force was easily building more and more to replenish their losses, meanwhile the Luftwaffe was suffering losses just as much as the RAF was (maybe even slightly more as they were also losing a ton of their best pilots) but unlike them they simply couldn't account for it. People like to think that Germany switched from bombing airfields to terror bombing cities purely out of ego and anger, but the real reality is that the Luftwaffe was literally about to break if they kept attacking airfields so they switched to more easier and less defended targets: Britain's cities. You know the rest.
For Operation Sealion (an invasion of Britain) to occur it required air superiority over Britain, naval superiority in the Atlantic, a proper logistical line, and proper landing crafts. None of which the Germans had.
Had Operation Sealion gone on, it would've been a miserable and hilarious failure as the RN sends the invasion force (a bunch of slow moving barges) to the bottom of the channel before a single german boot makes it on british shores.
Even if somehow enough barges made it through the RN, the RN would've blockaded any shitty barges carrying supplies or reinforcements, moved up the border, and hold the line until the invasion force ran out of supplies and could be crushed.
This is the thing most people don't get, they DID put all of their resources into Great Britain and it failed miserably. Germany through all of it's failures then realized conquering Great Britain was basically impossible, so they moved on to the USSR.
Low key It was basically like trying to sink an unsinkable aircraft carrier
Ok. Then why not put effort into Africa? Like cutting Suez channel...
@@alexzero3736 one word: logistics
I'm not an expert on this but the BoB happened in mid 1940, and considering Germany had the industry of France and most of Western Europe couldn't they have eventually out scaled the UK? So if you wait and do Barb a lot later e.g 5 possibly 7 years later, while building up the Airforce and Navy ( no need for army since Germany doesn't invade USSR till a lot later) then surely you would eventually outscale the British no? Making a 3 million man army for USSR and then garrisoning a large chunk of it I expected took a lot of resources that could've been invested into Naval and Airforce materials. Could then Germany have outscaled the UK by the end of 1941? I'm not an expert and you seem pretty well drilled in the subject, but as a casual observer it seems quite weird that people say there is no way Germany could've beaten the Uk in any air war considering the German industry at the time. Which to me seems sufficient (in outscaling the British industry) if Germany also didn't have to focus on building such a large army for Barborosssa. @@unclelarry8842
@@LLAANN1988 yeah you're right, you are no expert. They couldn't simply just "wait" especially 5 to 7 years for a variety of reasons. One was their economy, Nazi Germany had a war reliant economy that relied on the pillaging of goods such as oil, bonds, grains, etc. from the countries they invaded and the biggest examples are France and Russia. Hell even before Russia they were already about to experience major food shortages according to Goebbels diary and were hoping the planned invasion of the Soviet Union would satiate it. Germany simply waiting it out, especially "5 possibly 7 years", would be absolutely unacceptable for the economy and it would've been a burning heep the first or second year in.
Two, the USSR would've instead invaded them but bigger and stronger. Stalin and Hitler were mortal enemies (Hitler because he was anti-communist and saw slavs as inferior and Stalin because he didn't like another sizable regime as his next door neighbor) and there was already a slow Red Army buildup between their border. All the Soviets needed to do was complete their military reformations and refill their loss of officers (both of which played a *HUGE* part in the Soviets poor peformance at the beginning of the war) after the Great Purge, both of which would've been done in estimatingly the summer of 1942 had it gone completely uninterrupted. The Soviets would've been completely ready to invade by 1942-1943.
Think of Germany's invasion of the USSR as a pre-emptive strike, war was already inevitable between them so might as well strike at the USSR while they're at their weakest.
Third is oil. The German's could produce as many vehicles and shit as they want but unless they had abundance of oil on them (which they absolutely didn't) most of those vehicles would be useless.
Fourth is Africa. In the time they spent sitting down and "building their military" no Axis presence in Africa has basically gave the Allies a free ticket to set up shop in Africa and using it as a staging ground to threaten Italy, Romania's oil fields, and Germany's goal of getting Russia's southern oil fields (aswell as dicking around all over the Mediterranean). Unlike your hoi4 games, the allies aren't a bunch of brainrotted idiots waiting for Germany to get stronger and stronger which brings me to my next point.
Five is the Allies. The wouldn't just have sit down and let Germany grow stronger. They are going to make moves whether your HOI4-brainrotted mind likes it or not. There likely would've been an earlier invasion of Italy, more raids on German production facilities, more Allied bombings, a later but strong invasion of Germany by the Soviets, and a highly probable early D-Day invasion. Also 5 or 7 years would've gave America the chance to wipe Germany's slate clean with nukes.
There's more but simply waiting and building cannot do it for Germany.
I always love when you hear wehraboos say something like 'if rommel was in charge, the war would have gone differently'. Like yeah, he probably would have surrendered as soon as it was obvious they could never win... Or just never start the war at all
Nah. Rommel wouldn't have sat in the office to plan a grand strategy and instead would have hopped to the front and led bunch of the forces himself while leaving everyone else waiting for orders and someone to coordinate the troops.
Not to mention that when supply issues would come forth Rommel would simply tell the commanders to use the enemies supplies...

I like how this man users the term "character motivation" when describing Hitler. It makes it sound like he's a fictional character instead of a historical figure.
But actually, it sounds familiar because the inverse is true. We base fictional characters and stories off of history because fiction is a tool to to simulate and explore reality. So the term "character motivation", while only used in fiction, comes from reality in concept.
I also like it because reality is not just made up of physical things like men, guns, and steel, it's made up of ideas, intentions, and philosophies so because of that, character motivation and personality are just as real of a factor as anything physical. In fact, I often wish we paid more attention to "character motivation" in both fictional and historical stories.

The Royal Navy out numbered Germany 20 ships to 1. The German Invasion fleet would have mostly died in the channel, and those that landed would have been cut off from wrecked supply lines, and that’s before Churchill said he would have used mustard gas on invaders. The war might have even have ended quicker if Germany broke themselves against that wall in 1942.
Exactly, what's worse is people say Operation Sea Lion was completely possible and all I have to say is "lmfao with what fucking Navy?"
Actually you are wrong about the invasion fleet dying in the channel. They wargamed Sealion in 1974 with several high ranking Nazis playing German Nazi leaders at the time. Here is a direct quote "The German invasion fleet only suffered minor losses due to motor torpedo boats", this first wave consisted of about 8,000 airborne and 80,000 land troops, again mostly landed without issue. The issue the German's had were supply and reinforcements. Now that the Royal navy was on notice the second and third echelon troops, heavy equipment and supplies were mostly doomed. They deemed that IRL Operation Sea Lion would have been doomed to fail, but not because the invasion fleet was sunk, but because the supply would be cut.
@@joshdavis3743lol that's bullshit? Airborne troops? Are they forgetting that Britain maintaned complete air superiority? What did they think the BoB was for? What's funnier is that they think the Germans could even land a single boot down on Britain's shores, especially with their slow moving shitty barges. Also seriously wtf is the Royal Navy doing? Having a wank? They wouldn't just let German barges filled with troops just slowly move towards their islands, is the entire British military in this scenario a bunch of brainrots that have no idea what they're doing? If both France and Poland were prepared and the Soviet union didn't invade Poland, the war might have ended right at that point where Germany started to invade them. People didn't realize the insane amount of luck Germany enjoyed at the beginning of the war. They banked on the chance Britain and France would hesitate to respond and their gamble paid off. The German high command wasn't even sure whether France would let them attack Poland without any response. Only after 8 months seeing no action from the Brit and French did the Wehrmacht start marching west. A quote from Winston Churchill in 'Zionism versus Bolshevism':
"This movement among the Jews is not new. From the days of Spartacus-Weishaupt to those of Karl Marx, and down to Trotsky (Russia), Bela Kun (Hungary), Rosa Luxembourg (Germany), and Emma Goldman (United States), this world-wide conspiracy for the overthrow of civilization and for the reconstitution of society on the basis of arrested development, of envious malevolence, and impossible equality, has been steadily growing. It played, as a modern writer, Mrs. Webster, has so ably shown, a definitely recognizable part in the tragedy of the French Revolution. It has been the mainspring of every subversive movement during the Nineteenth Century; and now at last this band of extraordinary personalities from the underworld of the great cities of Europe and America have gripped the Russian people by the hair of their heads and have become practically the undisputed masters of that enormous empire.
There is no need to exaggerate the part played in the creation of Bolshevism and in the actual bringing about of the Russian Revolution, by these international and for the most part atheistical Jews, it is certainly a very great one; it probably outweighs all others. With the notable exception of Lenin, the majority of the leading figures are Jews. Moreover, the principal inspiration and driving power comes from the Jewish leaders. Thus Tchitcherin, a pure Russian, is eclipsed by his nominal subordinate Litvinoff, and the influence of Russians like Bukharin or Lunacharski cannot be compared with the power of Trotsky, or of Zinovieff, the Dictator of the Red Citadel (Petrograd) or of Krassin or Radek -- all Jews.
In the Soviet institutions the predominance of Jews is even more astonishing. And the prominent, if not indeed the principal, part in the system of terrorism applied by the Extraordinary Commissions for Combating Counter-Revolution has been taken by Jews, and in some notable cases by Jewesses. The same evil prominence was obtained by Jews in the brief period of terror during which Bela Kun ruled in Hungary.
The same phenomenon has been presented in Germany (especially in Bavaria), so far as this madness has been allowed to prey upon the temporary prostration of the German people. Although in all these countries there are many non-Jews every whit as bad as the worst of the Jewish revolutionaries, the part played by the latter in proportion to their numbers in the population is astonishing."

Something I never see discussed is what winning meant to the Nazis. It's worth remembering that nazi ideology was kind of dependent on constant, never ending conflict. In a sense, final victory was never actually possible. In fact, some recent historians (such as Ian Kershaw) have argued that Hitler never really had an idea of what final victory meant- he argued in one essay that he essentially saw the endpoint as going down in flames. It's also worth remembering that if Germany defeated every other major power, they would then have to actually occupy all that territories permanently. The US couldn't even maintain a puppert government in Vietnam. How exactly was Germany meant to hold all of Europe under its thumb??? People sometimes focus too much on the military side of Nazi Germany and forget that the insanity that drove it was always going to destroy itself
The Nazis, including good 'ole Erich Ludendorff, revelled in violence, even if it was against their own "team," so to speak. Without it, their lives were meaningless. I always figured that the world of man in the high castle was such a world - because it exists in a multiverse, the world of high castle is in the tiny tiny minority where unbelievable coincidences led to the allies falling apart and almost destroying themselves.
Reminds me of the film Red Dawn and it’s remake. People like to mock the remake for claiming North Korea could invade the US but the idea of a Soviet Invasion in the original was also absurd so both the original and its remake created an alternative history where everything went right for the invasion to happen (the 1984 version having a world where NATO doesn’t exist anymore) and despite the claims the remake had North Korea only as one of three participants with China taking the rest of the west coast and Russia taking the East coast.
Dabbing British soldier took all my attention
Weebs: dragon ball did the first dab
Historians: Dunkirk did the first dab
The real reason Germany lost

@@pretentiousarrogance3614 Its from the filming of Dunkirk (2017)
Dabbing wasnt invented in ww2 or was it
But what if Germany ‘Trojan horsed’ their men by smuggling them into the allied countries inside German sausages

They would have won if they allied with skibidi toilet
So true!!!
Ok, but really, what if the Germans just used the australian emus? The allies wouldn’t stand a chance
You fool, that was the reason the allies kept Australia around, a weapon to surpass metal gear

Don’t. Give. The. Emus. Power
USSR: "finally, some good f**king food"
For that matter even Australia couldn’t beat them. So they would slowly eat all their crops and leave them to starve
That was a pretty great intro tbh
Nostalgic intro, almost brought a tear to my eye.
