    Really need the same heads on both to be an honest comparison, it changes the sound sooo much especially when people are paying most attention to the decay. Thank you for the content though, keep it up!

    The Yamaha sounds more like a steel snare than the metal Pearl. The Yamaha will be better for jazz. I like a nice ring from a snare. That generally gets lost when the band kicks in and you're left with a clearer snare tone. I've always gone with that idea.

    Both snares are very good. I would use the Pearl for anything backbeat oriented, and use the Yamaha for Jazz. But like you said, both will work for anything.

    Just bought a Yamaha Stage Custom in a robin’s egg blue. Love the look and love the sound. Great video, I wanted to watch someone review the Yamaha Stage Custom, I picked you Adrian and I’m a happy guy. My first Yamaha snare. I have 4 Ludwig, 1 Pearl, a Mapex now the Yamaha. Quite excited about it. Thanks again.

      Thanks for choosing my video. I greatly appreciate that. I hope you enjoy your stage custom. I have 2 of them. I think my next review will be the old (2002) verses the new (2018)

    Interesting Yamaha vs. Pearl Snare !
    The Pearl Sensiton is more versatile !
    Kind regards from Heidelberg Germany !❤

    Great video Adrian thanks for putting that together for us. Both drums sound good in there own right. The Yamaha is bright and full as you say but Pearl is definitely dryer, has a nice fat snare sound. 🙂

    Nice playing!! Very rudimentarely sound. I've owned the pearl snare. Solid work horse!! I have the Yamaha stage custom birch kit. Very live depending on how they're set up. I have a small snare collection and that Yamaha is definitely in the rotation.

    Like your comparison videos. love to see a yamaha stage steel 6.5
    Compared to a pearl steel Sensitone 6.5 and or ludwig 6.5 steel superlite

    I own the Sensitone and it is a do anything drum. You can routinely find these used for $100 or less. A steal bcuz the quality is really good. No thin hoops 2.3mm . I personally like single ply head on it bcuz I play mostly jazz and this drum is very sensitive for brushwork. Two ply heads tend to choke a drum too much when playing brushes and the feel is uncomfortable bcuz usually a light touch makes brushwork sound best. If you don't use brushes then 2 ply is fine.

    Hey Adrian....Pearl snare engaged in snare sounds smoother.
    Yamaha with snare wires off.
    The Birch shell has beautiful tone.
    Both kits sound BIG, for the price of the Kits.
    I don't believe you have the SPL Birch kit, but would love to hear that aside the Yamaha stage custom Birch kit.
    The review on that SPL 8 inch snare speaks for itself. Thank you Brother!

    I agree with your assessment of both snares. The yamaha birch, because of it's brightness, almost sounds like a steel shell. But honestly, I like the yamaha. It just needs either a different head or maybe a little bit of muffling. But even so, it still sounds really good. 😊🤙

    I have the Pearl. One of my favorite snares. Looking at buying a Stage Custom to match my Yamaha Bebop Kit. I really only like metal snares for rock usually, but I want the SC for jazz. Wish they had the same batter heads though. Thanks for the content brother.

    Being a yamaha nerd myself, I like the way the stage custom has a bright sound.. But, I'm going to have to go with the pearl on this one..... sounds more controlled.. great tone!!!

    • @2ndAveScents
      @2ndAveScents 7 месяцев назад +3

      The 2 ply head on the Pearl has a control ring, throw that head on the Yamaha and get the same tone with that nice tight controlled decay.

    Got 6.5” aluminum Sensitone. Love it. But, my next kit is Stage Custom. I’ve shopped around hugely..it’s Yamaha for the win. Mapex 2nd, Sonor 3rd. Actually, I could see me selling my small collection of snares & 2 Pearl kits. I’ve played stage custom sitting in for a friend, and I was surprised how good they are. Very. I played for years having and using only one snare. I’ll keep my 7” solid ply, 70’s Acrolite. And with stage custom kit & snare, done. Happy.

    I don't think you need to close mic the snares, it just makes them sound unnatural. It's unecessary outside of the context of doing a multitrack drum mix, and how the drums sound from a normal listening distance is more important imo. Other than that, thanks for the video!

  • @yelltempus
    @yelltempus Год назад +1

    If indeed that's a Powerstroke 3 head it's a coated Ambassador with a dampening ring installed around the edge on the under side. Not a 2 ply head just a single ply with a dampening ring.

    Kind of uneven comparison
    Wood Vs Steel
    5” Vs 6.5” deep
    Single ply Vs / Double ply head
    That being said , they both sounded good .
