Spent the summer of 87 working for the St Louis Cardinals football team. Watching coach with Johnny changed my life. Coach is the role model all role models look up to. God bless the man and RTR
Two greats. Coach Gene Stallings, thank you for your contribution to college football on and off the field, and for lickin Miami in the 92 National Championship. Roll Tide
Greatest football game of all time every body in the world was running down Bama saying that didn't have a chance against the mighty Cane's and then Bama proceeded to kick a little behind it was awesome.
You gotta love how honest Stallings is as a human being. After being complimented by Dabo, Stallings is asked if he had seen anything special in Dabo while he played at Alabama. At the 5:06 mark, Stalling say "Not particularly, because he was an average player." Dabo's reaction is funny. But, the truth is that Dabo was an average player, who was also an above average human being. Stallings trusted Dabo's character and work ethic, and gave him his first coaching job. Dabo listened,. learned and then surpassed his teacher.
That's a good thing! The best coaches were typically average players themselves. Gene Stallings was an average player. So was Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, Bear Bryant, Bobby Bowden, Urban Meyer, Woody Hayes, and even Nick Saban. If they played on the D-1 level they were mostly just backups, or they were invisible phantoms playing at directional state university in a conference that doesn't even exist anymore. The only real exception to this rule is Steve Spurrier. Spurrier's the only person in NCAA history to have won a national championship as a coach, and a Heisman Trophy as a player. (I suppose you could make an argument for Jim Harbaugh, but it's become painstakingly obvious he's either lost his touch completely, or was always overrated and simply benefitted from being in the right place at the right time)
Can't help but like Gene Stallings either. It is easy to like Dabo, because that good ol boy act is not an act. The day they demand that Dabo start being a jerk to be like some of these other successful coaches that treat these kids like dirt is the day he will quit.
I live in Georgia but I remember coach Stallings very well. Always classy and wasn't into running up the score on weak opponents like Nebraska and Oklahoma did in those days.
Good comment but don’t forget early BCS days had a criteria in their calculation of “margin of victory”. Forced a lot of these schools to pour it on weaker opponent s
I completely agree. I'm from Paris, and I've known coach my whole life. I bleed UT orange but I absolutely love Alabama football. I clicked on the video thinkin that the sweater was a mistake. Haha.
Connie Lawrence Goggins dabo said he wants to turn clemson into one of the greatest programs in college history..he loves it here and I don’t think he’ll leave a dynasty just to start over a new that makes no sense...
If Clemson is Clemsoning we are doing one hell of a good job there’s a lot of teams out there who would love to be in there with Clemson’s record ( 54/4 ) and 3 National titles 2 in four years
You can tell Stallings is a true Bear Bryant disciple. Demeanor. Voice. Presence.
Coach Stallings is first class. No question about it

I'm a Dabo fan. He's a believer. That makes him family.

This is a great video. More to life than just football.

Gotta love this Alabama boy!!! Good Luck Dabo, but RTR!!!
Say what you want but that’s two branches of the Paul Bear Bryant coaching tree right there.
Well said

Love both of these men I actually got a chance to meet coach Stallings not long after the 92 National Championship
The lineage of Bear Bryant.
I'm a big Michigan Wolverine fan, but i like Clemson Tigers and Dabo Swinney too since 2013.
It pains me to see Coach Stallings in that Clemson sweater. Great respect to Clemson, and Dabo, but dang..lol
hahahaha nice
His grandson J.C. Chalk is playing in the team. As any great grandpa would, he would support his grand baby.

Rough to see that sweater. Roll Tide!
If Nick Saban ever retires (he may go to 100yrs old!) - we’re gonna call Dabo home.
Roll Tide !!!
not gonna happen. Sorry.
Connie Lawrence Goggins dabo said he wants to turn clemson into one of the greatest programs in college history..he loves it here and I don’t think he’ll leave a dynasty just to start over a new that makes no sense...
He's not going to leave the family he's built for a factory. Alabama's going to be a downgrade before he's done. In fact, it is already.
Your the same people that called him a cheerleader. Whatever.
Quit kidding yourself it ain't never gonna happen!, why would a King leave his throne to be a court jester?...
Two BAMA guys.
Taylor Powell wearing the PAW. GO TIGERS.
@@MrJustinbgrant indeed
Da Hell!! Why is coach stallings wearing that orange ass sweater..lol
Bama better watch out. I smell it....
Wow you guys sure sensed it 2 months ago.
Roll Tide

Roll Tide.
Dabo sounds like Coach Bryant
Do you think dabo would leave Clemson if offered the coaching position at Tuscaloosa?
No.
that would be the shortest time span measurable.
luckily Saban’s! not going anywhere
A@M GAVE CLEMSON THEIR TOUGHEST TEST THIS SEASON , ON THE SCHEDULE AGAIN NEXT FALL AT CLEMSON GET READY ANOTHER BARN BURNER
Check.
Roll Tide Dabo... Saban will retire one day...
Clemson 44 Alabama 16
Dabo needs to stop clemsoning ...
What's that? Kicking everyone's asses? Greatest team in modern history.
Comment has aged horribly

Butthurt haters are just making yourselves look ignorant with stupid statements that make no sense.
Clemsoning, definition of: Beaking the backs of college football programs and gettin their coaches fired.
