Thanks, Mike! Getting a uromastyx in the next few months and have watched all of your uro-related videos meticulously to make sure I get the tank right :) your channel is an invaluable resource!
Updated care videos are really helpful. I know when I'm doing my research and the only videos I see are from years ago, I'm not sure if should fallow that info.
I know this is an older video but I thought I’d just let you know about the humidity these guys have to deal with in the Middle East, most of the time here it’s a dry heat with minimal humidity but there are times after it rains that they can experience a very high level of humidity, it’s not common but I don’t imagine that it’s bad for them in any way as long as it doesn’t happen too often. Thanks for the great content btw🙏
Your getting great temps with that combo and by FAR it is the best combo to use. Halogen for a nice bright IR-A rich projection and DHP to fill in the missing IR-B. Fantastic! Always use real stone wherever possible, not only is it sturdy and provides climbing enrichment, but it also helps keep nails trim and as you rightly point out will retain heat readily. This is the both reflected in part and stored for release via convection into the long wavelengths of IR as warm air, just like our actual sun. Plant grow T5s are not that bright in terms of replicating the levels of lux seen from natural sun. LED Bar is approx. 3-6 times brighter and will life lux levels to that of around midmorning natural sunlight. This is brighter than has been possible before and we do see an increase in natural behaviour when LED Bar is used. Keep in mind that 'All light is energy', therefore there is a use for visible light in the right quantity just as much as is there for UV and IR. We are learning LOTS more about the importance of Lux right now. Exciting times.
Thanks for the knowledge John! I will definitely be sending you my heating video for your input before I post it, and make some changes based on your feedback. The LED bars are also like 2-3 times the price especially for that size, but I will slowly be buying more and upgrading more of the tanks in the future!
Hey Mike, you should plant some rosemary or garden mint in the uromastyx tank, as they are edible and add nice colour to the vivarium. rosemary also grows well in sandy soil!!

The wattage of the bulb will largely depend on the setup you are keeping them in, I’d recommend a couple 50W halogens, and most dimming thermostats on the market are great for this sort of application. ExoTerra makes one that is wildly available.

Cool video dude. Uromastyx are definitely cool lizards. They're definitely in my wish list. I've researched them a lot and I particularly like the Moroccan uromastyx. For any uro owners, are uromastyx good to handle? All the sources that I have read doesn't really help at all. I do keep them on the same substrate. If you are looking for natural, you can do sand with some course gravel (1-2” inch so they can’t ingest it)
