  • This product is designed for experienced users in difficult-access professions who in the past have been using the STOP. The main functions of this product are to comfortably control the descent, to position yourself at the work station without the need for a tie-off, and for short ascents. The purpose of the device is to be a descender with a simple, clean construction that fulfills the basic needs of an experienced difficult-access professional.
The RIG is easy to install on the rope without having to disconnect it from the harness, thanks to a swinging side plate and safety gate, which makes it harder to drop.
The main advantage of the product is its multi-function handle, which allows the user to position himself at the work station without the need for a tie-off.
For single ropes between 10.5 and 11.5 mm in diameter.

I love GriGri in sports climbing and very happy with it (have been using for about 5 years now and would recommend the smoother GriGri2). However it's not really rope friendly after 10.3 mm and most of the rope access and rescue technicians (such as myself) prefer 11 mm ropes and you can also encounter a little thicker ones depending on whom you are working with. RIG provides better grip and good work positioning in these situations, especially when some climbing is required.

I've had to do something similar but not for as long (only 20 meters) for a whole day. I would suggest using RIG on a static rope in these situations as a dynamic one will not help in terms of staying stable. I combine RIG with a rope clamp with a pulley and some webbing for the foot. Works great in short ascends over time and just for the fun of it I've paced a few climbs and was happy with it.

Very interesting video. One question: what do you mean with "short ascent". I'm a sport photographer and I'm searching for the right tools to photograph climbers: RIG can be used to ascend a 30 meters rope, or is it better to combine it with a CROLL and ASCENDER and use them separately to descend and ascend?

I don't know what model version of rig you own, but on my model in the instructions it states 200 meter and the speed and the temperature -40 degrees celcius

@boulderwithrope Sure but at $200 or so I'd stick to a figure 8
