The true face of Johann Sebastian Bach

- Neither photos nor videos have ever existed of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach - until today. The classical music festival "Bachwochen Thun" is now breaking new ground with its pioneering "Bach 2.0“ project: It will present the Baroque composer in a way that the world hasn't seen for the past 274 years.
Using the famous oil painting by E. G. Haussmann from 1748 as starting point, Iranian artist Hadi Karimi has created a high-resolution, photorealistic, 3D model of Bach's face. During the post-production phase of the film, artificial intelligence was used to replace the actor's face with this digital reconstruction of Bach's own. This so-called "deepfake" now reveals Johann Sebastian Bach as a living, breathing human being.
Idea, concept and script: Vital Julian Frey, Bachwochen Thun
Directed by: Andreas Graf
Cast: Christoph Müller as J. S. Bach, Eugen Jost as E. G. Haussmann
Video production: Epic Lab ∙ Film, Music & Scoring, www.epic-lab.com
3D artist / Bach's face: Hadi Karimi
VFX artist / Deepfake: Mubin Khan

We need a full movie with that actor!!
For real, it is time to make a Bach film, after Amadeus, a Sebastian film!
Absolutely, Christoph Müller is the perfect cast!
@@carlopedulla874 un'altra schifezza come Amadeus ?😂
Yes!!!!!!
His face is digitally altered here, but I looked him up, and he does kind of resemble Bach himself.
As a classical violinist, this had me in tears.
This scene was shot in Holligen castle, which lies within eyeshot of my home.
He speaks in dialect! Nice touch.
Thüringer Dialekt!
@@TASSOS1965 Sì Tassos! But it is much lighter than I think Bach had in reality! :D
The thing I like the most is the 18th century language. We ought to polish up such quality of language!
@@SilvioMonnolisi My German relatives speak it! :-)
@@TASSOS1965 Correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK "isch" for "ist" is nowadays only spoken in the Alemannic dialect area in the Southwest and foreign to Thuringia. Actually I'm surprised he pronounces it that way! But they were assisted by a historical linguist, so it's quite probably correct.
Oh god I was having such a hard time making out what he was saying…
Wow, this is incredible! It’s amazing to see Bach's face come to life after all these years. The blend of history and technology here is mind-blowing.
Ya! Danke Dear Kappellmeister of Lipsia ❤
His face in the screen you see with eyes his heart and soul you know in his music.
Wonderful characterisation of the actor that plays Bach's role!
😂
Kudos to the team for stretching the frontiers of classical music presentation.
thank you so much...
For those wondering what's playing in the background: BWV 975 - Concerto Transcription after Vivaldi in G Minor - Largo
which exact version?
If they make a film about Bach, this actor needs to be cast
Featuring... Haussmann the painter!
Why am I watching this for the 5th time now?
BECAUSE THIS IS A MASTERPIECE
The greatest musician genius in all human history: Bach… Johann Sebastian Bach.
Just watched the video and I won't lie when I say it’s absolutely mesmerizing! Seeing Bach in such lifelike detail through this technology is truly incredible. Jist amazed. Such proficient work. Mind blowing. Kudos to the deepfake artist for his work.
How I wish to watch bach film full
Wow ... Sächsisch Anno 1725. Love it!
I did not think I'd see the term "Bach-face" today.
Fantastic ! Bach had first a tenor and when he got older.. a bass bariton voice. (scientifically research have found it in old texts) .
It's interesting that at one time, when Bach was young, he sang as a tenor. When my voice stabilized after its changing at 14 years , I was a baritone for about a year and then became bass-baritone when I was about 15. I also understand he was still a soprano at 16, showing that puberty comes earlier now than in Bach's time.
We need an English translation. I hope they do more.
Why? There are English subtitles, but you may have to switch them on (CC symbol on the screen). While you're at it, you should disable the 'Stable Volume' in the options (cog wheel symbol). It's an annoying new hidden feature that RUclips introduced the very day this video went online. It causes the quiet passages where there is no talking to be much too loud.
What a fine execution! great work by the team! 😍
Herzlichen Dank!
May A.I never replace this beautiful thing 😢
One quibble - wigs were heavily powdered and not shiny at all back then. Wig powdering comes up all the time in writing of the period. The "powdered wig" is ever-present. Painters are always a little tempted to exaggerate shiny highlights to create a more 3D effect, but the wig here is even more shiny than as thus represented in the portrait.
A more true image of the 18th century powdered wig aesthetic can be seen in better paintings by more masterful painters - always very matt with powder because the curls are simply vulgar when over-highlighted and shiny.
Its just wrong.
I thought that error was overcome in high production value representations already a few decades ago.
The keyboard piece at the beginning is the largo of a keyboard concerto in g minor, after Vivaldi. I do not remember the other piece, but it's part of what is now called "Air on G string".
Bach lebt!😮 Grossartige Arbeit!!
Danke!
I just saw the video-what an amazing blend of art and technology! Bach feels so real and present. This is a groundbreaking project!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Herr Bach! ❤
The work he's writing is the C minor prelude from WTC II (BWV 871)
If you think that's ground-breaking, wait until Bach becomes one quarter African in the Warner Bros. feature film scheduled for 2028. It turns out there was an English slave-owner in his family tree and a mixed child was born which became a maternal ancestor. This is where he got his rhythm from, as well as his curly hair. He had to hide this ancestry from the evil European society of the time and often wore makeup. There are many lessons to be learned from this film, including where European genius truly comes from.
You can't hide the truth!
Please, come to Brazil!
That’s so surreal! It is stunning to see Bach talk.
It’s not Bach…
This is like getting a call from Santa as a kid
reality,thats the truth.great work 👌
very nice
Breath well and truly taken!
What an epic way to promote!! Respect 🎩👌 Good job to everyone who made this!
Noiccceee 🤓
Und wie schön er sächselt! Klasse! Viel Erfolg in Thun!!
Good video, keep going
fun fact: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Händel, Chopin, Liszt, Tchaikovsky and Yehudi Menuhin had perfect pitch
SOOOOO NAILED ACTOR!!!
Wonderful!!!
He looks like General Surovikin, but with a wig.
The dude does resemble Bach!
Papá Bach
I didn't understand a word, but I love Bach 😀
Tolles Video!
i dont see the likeness. i mean: its a similar but same? not at all.
Ha! We assume that the portrait is a true likeness of the composer. Mir völlig egal, since I don't think the face of the simulation is all that close to the painting. If Bach comes alive here, it's mostly due to the talent of Herr Müller and the clever writing.
Unglaublich! The Haar are standing up on the back of my neck.
Sadly, if we're honest, the technology is really quite terrible especially at the eye wrinkles, and twitches, and eyelines.
Fairly nicely done AI overlay!
Loved that!
Please which movie is this
Apparently, JS Bach liked to smoke a pipe, and he also liked to drink socially too, he had faults like most men did, he would have been a great person to have a social drink with.
It was not frowned upon for Lutherans to drink, in moderation, of course.
@@antoniofranciscogarcia1707 And JS Bach was a devout Lutheran, he once said that he composes his music for the glory of God.

Oh there was title of the piece in the roll credit :)
Komm Bach, mach unseren Gehalt höher 🎹
wow
sehr gut!
Bro broke the 4th wall 💀
❤️
what's the song at the end?
Air on the g string
WOW 😭
It doesn't really look like his painting... i wasnt sure what the point of this was, couldnt tell it was supposed to be a deepfake of the painting. He just looks like an unrelated person. The wig is crappy and his face is just totally wrong
Why would the painter be wearing his hat inside?
Qu'est-ce qu'y dit?
WHO IS BROI SPEAKING TO 😭
Famos 🙂 Gratulation

Doesn't look like Bach to me.
Schade.
you can activate english subtitles...
Es ist altes deutsch
21 second of buildup before I realise that it's in german.
Like some sort of joke.
It doesn't look anything like him.
Don’t be fooled by AI. This is nothing like Bach (no I’m not 400 years old, it’s just obvious). Refer to the original painting, painted by a human, to get an idea of what Bach looked like, not this machine-made nonsense.
It doesn't matter how he looked
like.
His music matters . 🎼
I agree…
And AI has no place in music or the arts.
Epic white christian.
Grate. Thank you.
At the same time I don't know....... Especially in closeup it looks like a "game" character to me. Those eyes. This is probobly the best they can do. Thank you for that. But he can't be 100% human being. It's a game look. My preference would be an actor. A human. Eyes are windows to the sole.
0:00 Tchaikovsky first appearance
2:37 Tchaikovsky last appearance
The resemblance is very close, but it's definitely not Bach...
What made you catch it? Is it the fact that the man has been dead for 300 years?
