I would love to have a go at snapper, jigging or bait, think they are the same family as our sea bream, which put up a great scrap, but the snapper seem about 10 times the size, I wondered about using light gear, but then also wondered what if you got a good one, to be honest Sammy, what I mentioned above would be very good, I would have thought its tricky tying an 80lb leader (Well this is from the man who lost two poppers in Aus casting from the beach because his leader knot caught in his top ring, I have since resorted to tying the braid to a swivel, then a heavier mono after that) But I suppose a lot of people would also be interested in how you tie up your trolling rigs
@@johnfurness2346 the knots you need for general fishing is loop knot, uni knot, FG knot, and you can get heaps more complicated with dead bait rig knots but that's really not required.. I would advise against using dead bait unless you are deep dropping or big game.... Cheers
We're in Central Florida, surrounded by Chains of Lakes. Loving Aussie fishing and gold. We have a premium on Dolphin mostly medium sized to schoolys. One thing I don't see you guys do is to leave your first dolphin, especially smaller ones, on the line in the water. We can often catch the entire school! That's fun. I grew up on a Navy Base in the Philippines, Subic Bay, where the fishing is killer and the reefs are as loaded as yours for spearfishing. I was 12 to 13! Hell yes! Loving that show. sm

@@SammyHitzkeFishing Yeh, but the only good thing to come of it now is, I don't have to go all the way down to the bottom of South Bribie to put my boat in, I can just put it in at Golden Beach and shoot out through the new Bribie Passage between North and South Bribie. I just hope they take all the animals that are now stuck on Nth Bribie and move them to Sth Bribie, maybe we should start something with the National Parks Guys?
Haven't been dolphin fishing in years. We did it totally different but I think that's cause u don't have anyone to help. What we did was the first one we hooked kept him on the line cause they school and won't leave each other.

One thing to note guys, have a look how Sammy fillets the mahi. If you pay close attention at no point in time does the flesh come in contact with the wet filleting table, its always touching the fish it came off. In my mind thats the sign of a pro fisherman. The level of meticulous care when cutting up the fish is what separates the hacks from the pros, the only thing I'd add is some paper towel at the bottom of the container to catch any moisture. Well done Sammy.
Hahah keen eye mate! Yes if take the skin off a fillet I don’t like to let it touch a wet table. If I have scaled the fish or it still has it’s scales on I’m not so fussy. 👌👌🍻🍻

Appreciate the support 🍻🍻 - I usually troll between 15-20kms depending on the lures and conditions - yeah I do put hardbodies in from time to time 👍 - teasers when solo are just another thing to get in the way. They are good if you have some hands on deck - Yeah give it some juice after hook up to set the hooks then keep it in gear to keep the pressure on - I like to run the boat along side the fish while fighting, but that doesn’t always go to plan 🤣🤣 Hope that helps 🍻🍻

G’day mate, I filmed it before all the bad weather came through. That bag I put between my legs and the seat on the way out. The seat is a little close to the steering wheel and has a big ridge along the middle that digs into my legs something chronic if I don’t use it 🍻🍻

G’day mate, yeah I’m sure they would be great. Should be nice and grippy, only thing is if you drop a mackerel on your foot they will go straight through. In saying that there isn’t much they won’t cut through 🤣
nice vids mate !!! but a notice what i consider mistake so there's some small tips you decrease your speed to much before clearing your line (decrease to 3-5 knots) clear your line before fighting the fish, like just let the fish run until you're ready and then decrease your speed again if needed i think it'll save you a lot of trouble but other than that you're doing well happy new year !!! good luck with your pelagic goal

I had trouble with the skin on a Cobia recently, probably because I tried to skin the full fillet, I though later I should have portioned it up then skinned it? Not a fan of the skinned Mahi. They're a weird fish. Have a lot of stringy fibrous connective tissue right under the skin and that gets left behind with skinning. For me id rather have it filleted and take the skin off with a knife and leave 1/8th of an inch or so on the skin. Regardless. Fantastic contend and great fish. I'm in the US and absolutely love watching Aussie fishing.
