      @@KevinRossRN Actually I have a surround sound system (Beam, 2 Play:1s, Sub, Boost). I watched your original video on the Play:1 before I bought my first pair; then added the Beam and Sub and Boost. i am glad you updated the original video because I had some issues with some of the things mentioned (how Sonos streamed music). From time to time I rewatch some of my favorite videos, so this isn't the first time I viewed this video, just the first time I felt motivated enough to comment.
      Again, good work, and please make more videos about Sonos. Thanks!

      Well again, I really appreciate the comment. And, yes, there was a lot that changed from my original video, and actually a few things that I was misinformed on, but with failure comes learning.

    I have two Sonos Play 1 speakers. I am in India.
    Earlier, certain services were not available in my country, so I could not integrate them with Alexa Dot. The Alexa skill it seems was not available. There was a 3rd party app but it was a bit iffy. I'll now check this😅 out again and revert.
    Meanwhile, thank you for restoring my faith in SONOS.

    OK, great video. So I just bought a pair of Sonos Play 1. I was under the impression that I didn't need anything but the speakers to stream music in the office with the app on my phone but I was told that I need a Sonos Bridge that you talked about in the other video to make it work properly wirelessly from my phone with the app. What do you think would be the optimal setup with my two Play 1 speakers (and stands) in a very large open office (25 x 30 feet)?

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 года назад +1

      Actually, this was the correction to that other video. When that video went live, about a week later Sonos got rid of the bridge.
      No bridge needed my friend. You are good to go to enjoy. This video just discussed the ability to pair with an Alexa, which just adds some features, but also not necessary.

    • @drjaykorsen
      @drjaykorsen 2 года назад

      @@KevinRossRN Yes, I called Sonos and they said that my Play 1 pair of speakers didn't need a bridge and would work on the S2 app unless they were more than 50 feet apart with a weak wifi signal. So, I'm just going to set them up in the office with just the app. Thanks again.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  4 года назад +1

      Now this is definitely a unique question. So with the skills set in Alexa, this is just acting as the remote for Sonos to stream that music that it can already do on its own...However with this turntable setup I don't think this will work. I'd have to search to see if there is a specific skill for this, but I don't believe you'd be able to have the turntable go through the Alexa (as a bridge) and then beam that over to the Sonos, unfortunately. Let me dig around a little.

      This is from a forum that a user reported the same issue, however it seems that these steps worked. There's three options:
      1/ Duplicate device names - Alexa prefers that names for Devices, Groups and Scenes are unique,
      1.1/ Please open up the Alexa App>Smart Home and make a note of any duplicate device names;
      1.2/ You can then change them in the source app. e.g. Use the Sonos App to change the name of Sonos players. (I personally use the naming standard Room Name + Device type. e.g. Kitchen Sonos, Kitchen Echo Dot, Lounge Sonos, etc)
      1.3/ Once you have changed any duplicate names then please In the Sonos app, select Settings>Room Settings and for each of the Sonos One's sign into 'Voice Services' and select 'Remove Amazon Alexa from this Room';
      1.4/ In the Alexa app, select the Alexa Icon in the centre of the row of Icons at the bottom of the screen and ask ‘Alexa, Discover Devices’.
      1.5/ Here is a link to my naming standards: en.community.sonos.com/amazon-alexa-and-sonos-229102/best-practices-for-naming-of-devices-6819283/index1.html
      2/ Some form of Account Linking or Authorization has not completed successfully. There are a number of causes for this and it's best to try these steps 1 at a time and test before moving on to the next step if the problem persists:
      2.1/ Open the Alexa App>Skills>Your Skills>Sonos and 'Disable' followed by 'Enable';
      2.2/ Ensure that you don't have multiple Amazon accounts logged into different Apps on your device, as this can confuse the Amazon Authorization. If yes, then please log out of the other accounts and then complete step 2.1 again;
      2.3/ If the problem still persists, please logout of all Amazon accounts then select the Alexa App>Skills>Your Skills>Sonos and 'Disable. Now power down all Sonos devices for 10 secs, allowing for any wired devices to boot before booting the remaining Sonos players. Now log back into the Alexa App>Skills>Sonos and 'Enable'
      3/ If the problem persists then an entire reset of the Authorization & Account Linking process is required:
      3.1/ In the Alexa app, select Skills>Your Skills>Sonos and then 'Disable';
      3.2 In the Alexa app, select ‘Devices>All Devices'. Now select each Sonos Device in turn and click the Trash Can in the top right of the screen;
      3.3/ In the Sonos app, select Settings>Room Settings and for each of the Sonos One's sign into 'Voice Services' and select 'Remove Amazon Alexa from this Room';
      3.4/ If you have any wired Sonos devices, please power down for 10 secs and then switch on and wait for it to boot;
      3.5/ Now power down all other Sonos Players for 10 secs then switch them back on and wait for them to boot;
      3.6/ In the Sonos app, Select Manage>Add a player or sub' and add the Sonos One's again. This will complete the set-up process again;
      3.7/ In the Alexa app, select Skills>Your Skills and ensure the Sonos skill is 'Enabled', if not please 'Enable';
      3.8/ In the Alexa app, select the Alexa Icon in the centre of the row of Icons at the bottom of the screen and ask ‘Alexa, Discover Devices’. Ensure that your Sonos One's are displayed correctly and not shown as 'Off Line'.
      3.9/ Also check one last time that there are no devices with the same name. Remember, if there is a need to rename any then you'll need to carry out step 3.8 again.
      Let me know if any of this works. I haven't had this issue, but curious to see if this resolves what's going on.

      So that's a great question. When you select the Play 1 as the preferred speaker, it will then play music back through those speakers. However, if you ask about weather or some other command, it will still play through the echo dot. Hoping for an update myself on this skill.

    Nice video. So it almost seems better to get the play one and an echo dot (more functionality) rather than a Sonos One with Alexa built in. Is that correct?

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  4 года назад

      Well, that depends. The echo dot breathes some new life in the original Play 1's, however to answer your question further, I'm still using these and haven't "upgraded." There's still a couple extra features in the Sonos One, like Airplay as a built in functionality, as an example, but that's also something I don't use.
      The speakers themselves are pretty much the same. And, if you have a dot laying around, to me it's a no-brainer to save some cash... My opinion of course.

    thanks

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  5 лет назад

      Yes, you can stop the play via Alexa. The Sonos is basically in a standby mode... Essentially, so it's not really turned "off" in a traditional sense of a switch.
      You can increase/decrease the volume via the Alexa... You'd just say "Alexa, turn the volume up in the office."
      Do you currently have a Play 1?

    • @rafal1509
      @rafal1509 5 лет назад

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  5 лет назад

      @@rafal1509 So an example use case that may answer your question.
      I have Sonos on all levels...
      "Alexa, stream Pandora in the office..."
      Let's say I leave the office and head downstairs.
      "Alexa, pause the office."
      "Alexa, stream Spotify in the basement"
      I can switch between these two no problem, and even stream different stations on Pandora on different speakers. It doesn't recognize "standby" but will pause the station and then you can go back to it later and resume if you want.
      As far as volume, it's numeric from 0-10. So, it would be "Alexa, turn volume up in office to 4"

    can alexa stream the bluetooth music sent to it by phone.. to the sonos play 1?

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  4 года назад

      So Alexa and/or your phone become the remote, which would be on the same network... So, if you're asking Alexa to say stream Pandora or Spotify from your phone, it's still using the Sonos app to connect to the speaker... If you have more details or specifics I'll try to answer them as I'm not sure if this is the exact question you had.

    • @l2azor07

      I use my echo dot as a bluetooth speaker to play local media stored on my phone. Can that music go to sonos via echo dot.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  4 года назад

      So this is one area where the Airplay compatibility of the Sonos One (not the Play 1) is needed. The Sonos app allows for streaming from a media server (NAS or Computer), which didn't use to be the case years ago. However with the media server functionality, this is "exclusive" to those types of devices mentioned above, so not a smartphone. The Sonos One however does have Alexa built into it, but what you'd really be doing is streaming through AirPlay 2 functionality of that speaker. So, my recommendation would be to look at the Sonos One if streaming locally stored (on your phone) media is what you're trying to stream.
