One of the best hifi audio channels I've discovered recently - keep up the good work!
Thank you 🙏 so much 👍
I’ll try 😉
Excellent overview as I’m currently looking at a pair of these. Spot on!
Thank you
Staggered at the bass for such a small cabinet!
Nice review of the B&W's Kevin. Surprised they are making the same speaker with different finish in China
I believe all sub 800 series are made in China 🇨🇳 now.
Accurate review. Exactly what I said in the shop. Lots of bass and warm sound. Nice tweeter for a metal unit too
Thanks Martin.
I could live with them.
I’d use the port bungs though.
@@dittonworks how does the Chinese pair sound different? That surprised me
@@martindevon3204 a bit flat compared. It honestly could be the different cabinet finish?
Good job my friend. Thank you so much!!
I have these exact same speakers, serial nos 0010461 & 0010462. Unfortunately many years ago some tiny fingers pushed in both tweeters so now I have to use them with their magnetic covers, not sure that the dimpled tweeters effect the sound, but it would be great to find a way to repair or un-pop the tweeter dimples.
Hi Christopher, you can get access to the rear of the tweeter diaphragm by removing the nautilus tube, the hole is fairly small but a cue tip/cotton bud will push the dent out.. BE careful doing it!! You are welcome to send the tweeters to me for repair.. check Ditton Works Facebook page for repairs.
I thought the A3’s won easily. Better overall balance and more musical as a direct result. I’ve heard these B&Ws in an extended audition. And they are remarkable if an upfront presentation is your priority.
Indeed, if LF is your thing? Most will like these.
Wow i am surprised that the CM1 have 2 versions…one made in china & the other made in UK. I have the CM6 S2 which are also made in china & the HF are not lacking in any way. In fact, the CM6 S2’s highs are very close to the diamond tweeter on the 805D3. I did a side by side comparison. I also listened to the 805D2 at the end of a Naim system & i feel that my CM6 S2 with LFD LE 3 sounds far more open, 3 dimensional & realistic. One drawback about B&W speakers is that they need some volume to come alive. But once u drive them well & give them sufficient volume, they can sound pretty darn good. They throw a huge soundstage that belies their size & can go very loud without strain.
I’ve had many B&W speakers. From DM range up to 805 diamonds
Definitely preferred the Celestions. The B&W's reminded me of my Kef Cresta 10's I have (made in China ones) I found they muddled voices.
Alas the piano black ones sounded very muddled.
@@dittonworks strange If the same components and materials were used they should sound similar. It's not like they are super complicated devices to make. Some changes to the crossover maybe?
@@D1N02 possibly cheaper components in the crossover.?
The actual drivers (at that time) were still made in Britain, only assembled in China.
I still believe the cabinet finish might have something to do with it too?
perhaps a combination of all
Mentioned above?
@@dittonworks probably. Stuffing and workmanship could also be a factor. Those Chinese probably didn't know what they were supposed to sound like.
Terrible sounds imo second set sounds better.
