    Something to keep in mind too, is that Best Buy is usually pretty empty of stuff into February, after the busy holidays. Even with that, my Best Buy was also seeing the same emptiness before the holidays. They just have less and less media. Last time at Target, there was just one end cap of movies. If you want media, Amazon is the way to go anymore.

    I know this is 2024 now and a lot of people nowadays would prefer digital and streaming media over physical copies of movies and video games since it's easier and more convenient, but I actually personally still love to collect physical media and that doesn't seem fair for Best Buy to discontinue physical media like that either, especially for people like me who still love collecting them since I'm just saying. I'm actually kind of an old-fashioned person myself since I still do things like it's 2003 almost or something being that I still do certain things a lot of people would have done 20 years or so in the past. I don't even text on phones or scan QR codes either since I'm just not in that sort of thing myself. They've been doing this long before they announced they were gonna stop selling games. It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. They keep their games at the front checkout or in the wearhouse due to theft. I help remodel their stores and this is where their games are so do not look at the aisles as if they are empty. Those cards are for the same reason. If I remember correctly they were using those cards for switch because switch games get stolen more often than not. they have movies at the remodeled stores but they keep them in the wearhouse as well. The last store you went to was a outlet store. It is not meant to be treated like a regular best buy . The reason it looks the way it does.

  • @loganhayse8771

    The margins on games brand new is pretty slim based off my experience at our small retail store. Buy them for about $50-55 from a 3rd party supplier and sell for retail $60-70 or less to be more competitive and that's if they sell. Otherwise they'll get marked down to the point we lose money on them. For the most part, people will purchase the popular titles and the ones that aren't popular just rot on the shelves. Our used games have always sold better with our profit margins being between 30-50% compared to new games giving about 10-15% profit margin and those sell better than the new ones.
    Xbox is the worst seller out ps and switch; especially after game pass came out. I don't remember the numbers put in our store even GTA5 which has been one of the top selling games since it came out has sold about 8x-10x as much on ps vs xbox. Game pass is such a sweet deal right now that it only titles like COD really sell on xbox.
    Take into effect also mobile gaming which many games are free to play where parents can just buy the ipad or whatever and they're kids can play fortnite or candy crush or whatever for free without having to spend money (unless the kid has access and starts buying they're skins or packs or whatever) to compete with physical media being $50-$70 unless you go used; most parents would rather stick with the free games.
    Blu rays and dvds are in the same boat with subscription services like Netflix and Prime vs going out and buying a copy. Matt Damon I believe on Hot Ones had an interesting tidbit talking about that; how your movie could flop in theaters but you make your money back in dvd sales almost like a 2nd screen opening but now the landscape has changed and it's hurting sales and movies as an artform; having less freedom because of dvds not recooperating your financial losses. Probably why a fair amount of films like Marvel became cookie cutter because they have a formula that worked and didn't want to stray too far because of production costs and advertising.
    It sucks cause I miss the days where games came with booklets that gave extra story and cool artwork and going to Blockbuster or Wal Mart to find some random film to watch was a big thing. Now everything is at your fingertips digitally and it kinda loses the charm of the journey and adventure of it all. Just wandering the aisles, trying to find the one that catches your eye and makes you go that's the one.
    Tl;dr I don't blame Best Buy for stopping physical media. I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched they're big warehouses for smaller ones too and cut their inventory to include just tv's, pc's, game accessories, consoles, and other stuff like that. Trim a whole lot of fat just so they can keep what they know sells.

    • @tamwilfred
      @tamwilfred 9 месяцев назад

      Not sure if a lot of people feel that films haven’t been great lately or we just get flooded with a lot of mindless entertainment. I haven’t found a movie good enough that I would want to pay the full retail price to watch or own. The Netflix age has created a lot of content that I just play in the background when I do chores.

    • @loganhayse8771
      @loganhayse8771 9 месяцев назад

      @tamwilfred I think we have more options that drive away the sale of movies. Before we had either tv or movies. Then we had internet which we could find films or play around or go to like newgrounds and later youtube for entertainment which both grew over different periods of time. Now we have easy access to movies for a basic subscription fee. So should I spend $10-$20 on a movie or go home and browse something for which I already paid for?
      There's a few that I would pay for but not much either. D&D Among Thieves I'd pay for to watch and for background noise. I'd also by Juice if I found it. It's old and has its flaws but it got pretty good around the turning point of the film.

    I think Best Buy‘s going out of business but it’s their own fault. Do you see who they employ there? I mean if I became CEO, I would fire everyone in the store and rehire everyone. You have a bunch of people who look like they hate themselves and they hate their lives, and they hate their jobs. I think it’s only a matter of time before they are out of business and it’s not just Best Buy. A lot of stores near me are being ran to the ground. All the managers look like this some lowlife young kids who could care less about anything, back in the day the managers at any store were 40 or 50 years old or even older today you going to the store and the oldest person looks like they’re 21 and they do that because they don’t have to pay them as much and the stores are all suffering every single store, I go in that suffering it’s all because of the same thing, the oldest person working in the store should not be 22 years old but they’re doing it to themselves. It’s like they are self-destructing purposely. and let’s face it when Covid came and shut half the store down people started ordering from Amazon more and more and a lot of people never went back to the stores. I don’t go back to the stores cause most of the stores don’t have anything in them anymore you go to Best Buy or GameStop and it’s a Ghost Town, so I either order from Amazon or I do same-day delivery from target if they have it but it’s a disaster out there. And I don’t know who thinks getting rid of physical media is a good idea because then you never own anything you’re just borrowing it you can’t resell it. my switch in my PlayStation five almost everything‘s physical my Xbox I have basically just for Game Pass so that’s the only digital one but I hate digital I wanna own something just like when I buy a movie from Verizon it’s 20 or $30. The problem is if I ever leave Verizon I lose those movies and that’s crazy and that happened in the past I had quite a bit of movies and then I moved got new service and lost all my movies so they’re charging you full price but you’re really only borrowing them. You should be able to download them on an SD card because you did buy them, but they don’t give you that option, they are thief and that’s why you gotta do what you have to do and lose no sleep over
