ngl i learnt so much (abt the match cuts, dolly shots and the snorricams) after his videos and the next time i watch a new bts mv im sure I'll be diverted to pay attention to these lol
MIC MIC BUNGEE! One of my favorite parts about this MV is how the lighting, match cuts, and choreo accentuate the hype of the song. Definitely check on the lyrics on your own time. The shooting sketch is also pretty cool, especially with the night scenes. Special note: The reason for confusion about the lyrics being in English is because this is actually a remix of their original song released on their 2017 album 'Love Yourself: Her' (same album contains the tracks Serendipity and DNA). BTS really like Steve Aoki and asked him to do his own remix of this song as a single. In their remix, RM actually rewrote the pre-chorus, chorus, and the 3rd verse in English. Both versions are a bop for different reasons. There's also another Steve Aoki remix of 'Mic Drop' that features Desiigner. These were all ways of BTS appealing to the Western market after they started gaining wider popularity following their Wings era in 2016/2017. The single ultimately debuted at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 - their highest achievement at the time following DNA peaking at #67 two months prior (which was the first time BTS ever charted on the BB Hot100). Steve Aoki also collaborated with BTS on a track titled 'The Truth Untold,' which was released in 2018 on their album 'Love Yourself: Tear.' RM & Jungkook also have an all English feature on Aoki's single 'Waste it On Me'.
OMG YAAASSSSS Finally you're one among the very few who notice the slowmo behind Suga's part with cards and Jimin and Jungkook flying!!!! Suga has similar slowmos which I absolutely love love love, like in Shadow trailer
Brother this video was made for haters so BTS tried to do something different from their usual style. In order to show their gratitude towards haters they put effort in the video. 😎😎
I've been waiting for you to comment on this video. Please explain the part where JungKook is dancing alone in the room, with a mirror image behind that you can see that tracks him when he moves, but the camera in front of him is not seen in the mirror? I know its some kind of illusion like V & Jimins part in the mirror of when they perform "Home"during Jimmy Fallon's Late Show. btw there is a behind the scenes of Micdrop that I hope you plan to review. Of course waiting for the 'Save Me' sketch too! This is becoming a full time job, reacting to MV's of Korean musical artists. But love the insight to both technique and creativity!
@@LoveTheBasics They filmed JK from the back doing the choreo and put that footage on the wall so you don't see the camera. :) Edit: JK actually explains how they did it in their reaction video.
A lot of the song is in English; the chorus and RM’s verse are both in English. That said, it’s not always easy to hear what they’re singing because of their accents. They’ve really improved a lot from this to the current era when it comes to English.
I have watched this MV for a LOT of times, but it was my first time to recognize that Steve Aoki was in one of the backgrounds after you mentioned. lol
Please react to their IDOL Music Video next!!! It's an amazing song and MV with a lot of CGI effects and is visually very colourful.... I recommend watching "IDOL music video Explained" by DKDKTV to understand the references better....Love your reactions and your perspectives!! 💜💜
Thank you for the reaction. This is such a hype MV. You're going to love the shooting sketch. A couple of things they don't cover in that though: at 2:04 (in your video), RM and Jin showing up behind J-Hope when he claps. At 4:40, when JK is dancing in the room alone with the mirror in the back, that's not a mirror. He had to film the scene from two angles and it was put in in post, probably because a mirror would have shown set equipment and the others waiting to join in. And I think they added more English than the original (feat. Designer) had, but it's still mostly in Korean.
Haha tbh I think the Steve Aoki parts are... ok? I don't know I do enjoy a good 'puppet master'-esque visual in almost any contexts. That aside I think if you end up watching the behind the scenes for it, could be fun, just for BTS' part and the sets/camera work in particular
Bestie I'm afraid that you missed something bcs you didn't read the lyrics beforehand. I really like the way you usually relate their cinematography with the lyrics
usually the audience in black on their mv's symbolizes the haters. you can see that at the beginning of the video they're standing still, but halfway through the end they're dancing and nodding to the song, because even the haters end up being their fans. the reference of burned cars and school bus is also super interesting because they are the same ones we saw in their previous mv's! (no more dream, I need u, run, etc) so it's a farewell not only to media's and hater's deconstructive criticism, but to BTS's harsh past in general. they are now on another level. :)
I recommend BTS’ song Film Out!! It’s from April 2021, is in Japanese, and is connected to the Bangtan Universe, but not so entrenched in it that you can’t interpret it in other ways. It’s gorgeous and one of my favorites of theirs-both the song and the MV!
So nice seeing your reaction for this one, and on perfect timing for the 1B celebration! Can't wait for you to react to IDOL! (Just a heads up, it's really chaotic at first sight, but it all has a meaning and is packed with symbolism, so when you react to it, make sure to watch "IDOL Explained by a Korean" later!)

There a various behind the scenes for mic drop ranging from *5.57* mins to 20 mins. I personally like the one that is *11.49* mins because it's between 5 and 20, even though it doesn'tshow the hilarious part were RM get stuck in the ambulance and the members where laughing (on *5.57* mins vid). Mic drop took long to shoot because they were shooting the Korean, Japanese and English versions at the same time and the *11.49* mins behind the scene video shows how exhausted everyone was.
