It’s not that deep. Kai was stuck in the prison world for YEARS obviously he gonna move on and he left her so fast it was obviously just a thing to keep him company.

Kai make a big mistake. He escape the prison world. The only place when he dies he comes back to life. Now that he is back in our world I'm sure Alaric or Hope will kill him at the end of the next episode or later but this time Kai will die and will never come back. What an idiot.
