The layout improvements and the new locos look great. It’s amazing how finding out how a real railroad operates and unloads can change what we know about our layout and we operate it. I like the unloading clock.
So many good ideas and you are making progress. I'm way behind you but have recently dug out my old trains from 25 years ago and when I was a kid and have setup a small shelf layout. Finally got the track laid and wired this past weekend. Not easy trying to remember how things work in this hobby, especially because it has mostly changed. I'm trying to spend as little money as possible to them working to prove I won't lose interest and have the time necessary. Your videos and layout are a great motivator.
Thank You! Honestly the hobby can be a bit overwhelming at times only for the fact that there is so much stuff and potential available these days. Enjoy it and model what makes you happy :) thanks for watching
Waiting to be unloaded is what we truckers call a "live" unload. There's a steel indusrty in Stockton, Ca. on the UP (it might even be on the old Tidewater Southern) that gets coil cars. It's a very similar looking building, but I've never seen it being switched, but they do have the occasional coil car spotted outside the roll up door that goes into the buiding.
Lots of great progress, John! Great structures. And I partiicularly like the chain link fences in front of the steel company and the vegetation at the base of the one in the foreground. Cheers from Wisconsin!.
John your layout has come a very long way! This update was fantastic and the prgoress is amazing! Can't wait to see more and always closely following your work. kind regards from Switzerland (cheers to Mr Bun...)
Great update, so many beautiful details to see on your layout. Amazing work building those structures and cool ideas you got ref the coil unloading. Definetely one of the best layouts I'm following right now 👍
I don’t know where to start. Love the shed with brick base. Love the passenger train. Your panel is frockin awesome. Scenery is on point. Great update John
I really enjoyed your update video. The Marino Ware structure looks fantastic and I like the electronics you added for the operations. The new locomotives are a great addition to your fleet. I can't wait to come back and operate on your layout.
Beautiful layout. Sure wish I was good with scratch building and had a static grass applicator, everytime I want to share where my layouts are I get kinda discouraged when I see others just have such beautiful layouts and higher quality scenery than mine. Glad to be running trains again on my second model layout but hope soon to really complete it and get my main layout it’s beyond deserved new wifi dcc system so I can run my prototypical layout and just have fun with my smaller freelance industrial park one
Don't get discouraged. Everything you do builds on each other and helps you become a better modeler. We all work on things and say "i think i can do better" this is how we improve our skills. You have to keep working, make mistakes, learn from them and have fun. We are our own worst critics... Enjoy the journey and have fun with your trains... :) Thank you for watching - John
@@RailserveJohn appreciate that comment 👍 sure wish I lived in a state with more model rail stores though. Living in Texas the last 15 years id say 15-20 model stores have closed down with two in Houston and one or two left in San Antonio, I remember as a kid hobby lobby used to have literally 3-4 full isles for model railroading now it’s like good luck finding anything other than the same scenery products they have only carried for more than a decade. I’m not a fan of buying things online so train shows are my best bet when buying for the hobby and I work weekends so I tend to have maybe 10-20 minutes to find what I need and leave. This hobby is such a wholesome one and man it’s a good feeling to have a high quality layout operating fully with The ability to run proto like operations, it’s a shame younger generation could care less, it’s also so expensive that it’s very deterring.
Amazing update. Amazing content, as always. Thanks for the inspiration. Ten minutes does seem like a long time but then again if you’re switching other stuff perhaps it’s not that long. As for videos, I’d recommend producing for the sake of producing something beautiful when you’re in the mood, not because RUclips is pressuring you.
Thanks! yes I'm at the point where if i don't feel like modeling or filming a video, I don't. The best work always comes from a motivated modeler :) Thanks for watching
Grew up in central NJ, now retired and 900 miles south. The scene @8:20 looks like Marino Ware in So. Plainfield, CR/CSAO WPMA-1 territory out of Manville iirc. Cool stuff, keep up the good work...
Hey John! Everything is looking great, you do some nice work. The Marino facility looks amazing with a nice touch of the unloading clock. Hope you are doing well, looking forward to the next update.
Everything's looking awesome! I like that interactivity incorporated at the large industry, I plan on doing something similar. Also, love looking for an excuse to add another loco to the roster :)
Great progress! Love it when I get a notification that you have a new video! I really love that coil industry, really cool How tall is that structure, it almost looks like a foot or so at the peak? Also love the motorman use, I have one hooked up running stack trains in the background, I also love just having the train moving while I work, it's nice just taking a moment and watching it during a small work break.
I agree! the Motorman is such a great addition to a point to point layout... and yes the structure is a little less than a foot. just slightly taller than the prototype structure. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Matt, I hope to add some interior details but with it being enclosed not as much as you have done. I wish i had some "open structures" like you do. Thanks for watching!
Excellent layout 👌 st great 👍 detail i model nj transit 🚇 also from NYC to shore points nj i also have winchester and western and Conrail, CSX ,NS sr your backdrop where did you get it i looking for Newark nj photo to put as a backdrop your backdrop fits my needs 😀 also again great layout 😀 👍
Thanks! Yes it is in South Plainfield. I didn't know about the old CNJ, LV yard. I really need to research that area more. I grew up there on-top of so much RR history
I'm using the #50 and #40 mixed grey from Scenic Express. I like it as it's real stone. On some sidings I'm using a natural fine coal mix that has a really nice dark mix. The problem is i threw out the bag many years ago and cant remember the name... hope that helps
Inspired by this m RR , I struggle with my layout which is a little junky, but I have only a-little time to improve it so thanks so much ! !
Thanks! Just keep trying things and enjoy the modeling. You would be surprised how fast you advance with trial and error. - John
The opening scene of this video was very immersive, and your latest upgrades are amazing. Your videos are very inspiring.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the comment! -John

You have had them 25 years, and setup a shelf layout. How long of a time horizon are you thinking? Get Busy.

Very cool! we will see how this addition works in the next ops session. i feel it should add a fun twist.
Great to see you John

Thank you Andrew! i still need to finish the fencing and gates but its looking good so far.
Life gets in the way and you find it's six months later... Great work and beautiful scenery.
Thanks Robert!

Thanks! Mr. Bun says Cheers!!!! :)
The "train spotter" sounds like a great tool. If that does not work, maybe a micro video camera out to a small screen?
Yea the trainspotters are great. A camera has been on my mind though
Great update, so many beautiful details to see on your layout. Amazing work building those structures and cool ideas you got ref the coil unloading. Definetely one of the best layouts I'm following right now 👍
Glad to know you're still among the living. Missed your shows. Thanks for the video.
lol thanks. I'm still here lol
Life gets busy. Before my recent update, the last one was back in April. Your layout is looking good!
Thank you! Yes crazy how fast time goes without much progress on the layout.
So many great things about this layout and the overall story you've put together about your railroad.
Great job.
Thank you Jeff, I appreciate it
you are one for all the fine details on a layout, what I enjoy about your channel, and the dream of one day, my layout being done up as nice as yours
Thanks Sparky! The details are the icing on the cake. :)
Good to hear from you and see the layout. Looks great!
Thanks for watching!

Nice video. One of my many local railroads, at one yard there is a similar engine house like what you created of about the same size.
Thanks! this is great feedback. Thanks for watching

Nice update, you've got a lot done since your last video. Those SW-1500s look fantastic! and I love the unloading wait light.
Thanks! I really like the new switchers as well.

Thanks for the update and looking forward to more posts hopefully in the near future
Thank You, more to come soon :)
Looks fantastic! Did you use static grass in between the rails for the one track by the steel industry? I look forward to your progress
Thanks! Yes I dabbed a few dots of glue between the ties and used a little static grass.
Looking great John! Looking forward to operating there again .
Thanks Don. Soon! lol
Where is the helix?
@@HumancityJunctionI don’t see a helix
Hey man great video btw it’s carel aka Chris I had to start my new channel from scratch because RUclips really screwed me in their flub in October.
Hey Chris! I’ll check out the new channel.

The yard office at 5.25 is neat....is it a kit or scratchbuilt?
Thanks! it was actually scratch built a couple years back.

thanks Lee
BTW, how is the in laws layout coming along?
He has been making some progress. Little by little
For screnery under the grass what did you use?
I often use some fine ground foam over a brown painted surface.
Cool video
Thanks :)
What ballast and dirt products do you use @John2618
I'm using the #50 and #40 mixed grey from Scenic Express. I like it as it's real stone. On some sidings I'm using a natural fine coal mix that has a really nice dark mix. The problem is i threw out the bag many years ago and cant remember the name... hope that helps
