Without any doubt one of the most beautifull and mooving cantata of Bach. Very original instrumentarium used by Bach with the two recorders and viola da gamba. Also a great presence of the choir. The presence of the recorders assumes that the subject of this masterpiece is related to death... It is interesting to notice that, at the begining of barock era, Monteverdi used recorder for the pieces related to joy and Bach for the death. Bach will be the last great composer to use this amazing instrument before its renewal 200 years later. Very beautiful and moving. Years ago I read a newspaper piece by John Eliot Gardiner in which he remarked on the aesthetic power and spiritual consolation of Actus Tragicus in the face of death. I've never forgotten his words on the eerie silence that follows the trailing away of the orchestra and the soprano's voice as she asks Jesus to come, just before 11.50, into which silence He then steps forth, or so we may imagine. It is, said Gardiner, one of the most haunting moments in all music. I agree with him.

Echt bewundernswert!
Very good point about Buxtehude's influence. Another example of this would be the Cantata, "Gott ist mein König". Van Veldhoven has also conducted Buxtehude Cantatas.
GLORIOUS CANTATA. The slow tempo allows an appreciation of the solo singers and the delicious musical tone of the recorders and the two violas de gambas. Conductor Jos van Veldhoven conducts in well-phrased tempo with pleasant fluency. Cantata Gottes Zeist is a paragon of harmony and serenity. Exceptional recording.
Perhaps this is one of the most wonderful cantatas, starting with the first pulses of the Sonatina, everything becomes an amazing and intimate work... 🙏
Great version, of this gorgeous and extremely solemn cantata. almost accidentally I found this video and immediately reminded of the Deutch gramophone record we had at home when I was a teenager and even sang along the alto Aria.
These two recorder players have a very good intonation. They can play in unison without going out of tune. Who plays the recorder knows how hard is doing that.
The description really was spot on when it said that the instrumentation gave the piece a heavenly quality. In my opinion, the purity and innocence of the recorders’ timbre aid that sentiment. Congratulations on a stunning performance!

This cantata seems to be a lullaby: calm my spirits, elevate my soul and remove all my fears. Thank you, JSB, for being with us...
At 9:15 the light of God enters the auditorium, sparkling beauty and peace all around.
Margherita - you are just right: heaven opens up. Your hint made my day . . . The ones who perform this masterpiece, they know what they are doing . . .
@@deutscheshygiene-institut8091 happy I made you happy 🤗
Thank you Master Bach, and thank you Netherlands Bach Society for bringing back to life all this beauty that will eternally guide humanity to good.
Großartige Aufführung!
Eine meiner Lieblingskantaten von Bach. Gute Solisten und auch ebenso die Instrumentalisten.Ein großer Genuß
I appreciate that NBS videos don't have adverts!
Prachtig ! De tempi de balans de solisten de dynamiek de gecontroleerde expressie de instrumentalisten prachtig!
What a heavenly ensamble of heavenly voices
12:00 - perhaps the most sublime, beautiful and heart-rending silence in music.
Danke! Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit - one of my favorite pieces!
I loved the soloist soprano
I love everything about this magnificent recital. As a recorder player, I was particularly delighted with the playing of the two recorder players.
Fantastische musici, prachtige uitvoering, schitterende opname!!
Fantastische is even better then sehr gut!
Det her er så bra at jeg bare må få lov til å si det i mitt eget språk!
Two favourite gamba players. Absolutely beautiful!!!!
Here Love wins, Quality wins the rest of the world. I belive that Bach's music is an universe's treasure!
I was used to the faster tempo chosen by Leonhardt for the beginning movements, but this is superbly executed and it touched my soul.
How adaptable you are.
A big thank to NBS from an Italian brand new Bach fan !
You help me make my life happier !
This is perhaps the most amazing sound I have ever heard. The recorders and gambas together. Just magic. Thank you.
@@schaulinmarkus6002 beeindruckend!
What a supreme masterpiece! Bach at 22 years-old showed past and future composers who was the GREATEST.
How wonderful and soothing in these very perturbed Times. Thank you for this prestine music
No body was as Bach. Every note is a consolation. All notes is a pray and adoration to god.
The opening movement is so divine! I love the dissonance between the 2 recorders
All-time favorite Bach piece. No clue why, I just haven’t gotten over this one in years.
A favorite early cantata. Can really hear the influence of Buxtehude. A truly sublime piece. Wonderfully performed. Thanks so much.
Very good point about Buxtehude's influence. Another example of this would be the Cantata, "Gott ist mein König". Van Veldhoven has also conducted Buxtehude Cantatas.
Onvoorstelbaar mooi. Wàt een musici....
Bravo, bravo! I am a big fan of the Netherlands Bach Society, Alex Potter, the countertenor, is incredible!
Schitterend!
So amazing. I have listened to this a thousand time at least
Just can't get enough of this. Bach at his most tender, and the performance and performers beyond superb. Thank you, thank you!
Utterly spectacular, in every way imaginable.
Minstens 100 keer bekeken, zo mooi , in mijn geboorteplaats. En zo'n mooie tekst op muziek....
11:38 Dorothee sings the coda with such beauty! Then... Absolute silence in the audience
breathtaking, absolutely breathtaking. I could kiss the feet of everyone in the audience. Magnificent.
Amazing
@@ritahorvath8207 crazy 🤣🤣
Merci mille fois!
Actus Tragicus is my favorite cantata and this is the best performance. Congrats!
These two recorder players have a very good intonation. They can play in unison without going out of tune. Who plays the recorder knows how hard is doing that.
The sweet melancholy and oh the recorders like Cherubim lamenting
The description really was spot on when it said that the instrumentation gave the piece a heavenly quality. In my opinion, the purity and innocence of the recorders’ timbre aid that sentiment. Congratulations on a stunning performance!
