I’m completely new and don’t have an existing hive for brood. This is the most comprehensive video that I have seen so far. Thank you for this!!!! 💛💛💛💛
Please don't think I'm being critical but after keeping bees for a number of years I'll try to give you a few tips. When inspecting a hive I always took out the outside frames on one end first and moved the center ones over. This way there is less chance you can injure the queen. You also do not have to put in brood from another hive to get the new one going. In fact if you 'weaken' the one hive by taking brood the bees may figure the queen is failing and try and replace her. If you have drawn comb to put in the new hive it will boost the new colony because the queen won't have to wait until they draw out the comb to start laying eggs. You don't have to be quite as gentle with the packages too. Trust me I did it the same way you did the first time but after you've put a few packages in you'll be much faster. I always 'misted' the bees in the package with sugar water first, then slammed ( not as violent as it sounds ) the package down to knock the bees to the bottom, then removed the feeding can and queen. Then you simply dump the bees into the hive, set the queen package in between two frames close it up and you're done. They also make a hive tool that has a hook on the end which I found is much better than the standard hive tool. It's only about $7 and works great. I hope this helps and good luck with your hives....
You are really a good teacher. I am watching this in Canada in 2022 and I gained a lot of knowledge from your practical demonstration. Thank you and God bless you.
Great video nicely explained if you want to anchor your bees open brood is better in larval age the bees will nurse them immediately buy a frame holder it will really help keep it up
God bless America and we will make America proud again and we will make America stronger again and we will MAKE AMERICA BETTER AGAIN AND WE WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN
There are many parasites, bacteria, mold which are not welcome in a hive.. when you set this frame on the ground.. arent you worried for contaminating the hive?
@@alessandrocrivellaro8283 elevation also helps with raccoons / skunks that will bang on the hive and eat the guard bees as they exit. Elevation exposes their bellies, allowing bees to sting and defend.
thank you brother for this great video im, contemplating doing this for my property I live on 5 acres and was curios as to if you've encountered angry bees my wife is terrified of bees and doesn't want me to get some but I belive it will be a great thing, as we could harvest our own honey later. I wonder how its gone for you since you've made this video. Any suggestions would help thank you.
I got a friend in tenerife and he uses a horizontal hove. To make shure that the queen stays in the lower part he uses a mesh inbetween that the workerbees can pass but not the queen who is too fat to fith through.
I know this video is 4 years old. And you did state you were new at beekeeping at the time. I was wondering why you would start in the middle of the hive to take frames for brood instead of starting on the outside frames first?

That's why you have to keep them elevated from the ground
