The story I was always told was Gary sculpted the new head due to pushback from Workshop and their early 90s pivot to marketing younger. He made the "Bobo" clown head as a joke, left it on his desk and went on holiday. When he got back they had taken the head from his desk and cast it.
>tunes in to comfy warhammer painting video >Host grabs pistol to shoot model which is spewing lasers from its eyes This is why I love the Warhammer RUclipsr community
I never realized just how big that mini is! I figured the shots were just really zoomed in and he was the same as most other human-sized heroes. The repose helped leverage that a bit, made him look more threatening!
Gw REALLY liked those tall hats with spikes coming off to the side back in the day. I think I remember the Dark Elves and/or Dark Eldar having a bunch of them as well, even though they look like a nightmare to actually wear and honestly just come off as goofy. It was the style of the times, I guess.
Weird shit? I think it's great entertainment! Also your sponsors get the best ads from you that don't feel like adverts and are interesting to watch. I reckon a few channels could learn from this but it takes some creativity and what I would assume is a lot of effort on your part. Thanks for another episode!
Honestly mate iv been loving this different content you have been making. Dont get me wrong, I do enjoy your regular warhammer stuff but the last few videos iv watched you seemed like you had a lot more fun lately! Keep up the great work!
Fantastic intro sequence! Reposing + limited color palette worked wonders on this guy; the classic paint job always added more red, white, and gold or golden brown which drew attention to all the silly details.
Very happy to see the action crew back together! Really enjoyed the chaos and action of the first half contrasting with your laid back hobby talk afterwards. Great work!
Your writing, production, editing, and just all around good natured fun is off the fricken charts!!!! Health and safety frog you are amazing! Oh and your human is pretty decent too, keep him around 😉
Amazing Halloween special! No-one else on the Miniatures adjacent field of RUclips is doing anything close to the kind of content you've been putting out lately. It's fresh, exciting and absolutely dripping with personality. Love the painting, love the banter, love the skits. Keep up the excellent work!
That slight repose did a hell of a lot for the model, he looks so much less ...just kinda standing there. And he didn't even need a tactical rock/skeleton/ghost/skeletonrockghost to be leaping off to achive it.
This really did it for me this morning. I've been getting punched around the ring the last couple weeks by Life and the battle scene gave me the best laugh I've had in a long while. Thank you so much! I needed it. Nagash turned out great too. Is the model hot garbage? Yes. Is it nostalgically cool? Also yes.
I painted this chap back in the day for a friend, very much in the style of the official version. When by sheer chance the exact same model came back into my possession battrered and in pieces almost 30 years later; I decided to try something similar, a repose and an entirely different paint job did indeed work wonders. It's still not a "good" model in my opinion, but it's "OK".
Saw clips of this in your insta stories and really couldn't wait to see the full video, this did not disappoint! Your video making is next level. Keep up the fantastic work! :)
Do you remember the days when a painting video was just some guy sat at a desk with a paint brush, and sponsorship reads were just a voice-over on some photos of the product? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Not any more, baaaaaaa-bee! This is an awesome production. Hector, with his fine military 'tache and Woolly Pully looks like some WW2 Commando hero; about to kick Nazi butt. The cinematography, sound and Foley work are all top-notch; and some great music too. I think that, if you imagine that Nagash's "face" is actually a mask, the figure looks less goofy. The finished mini looks mighty fine.
A great job as ever, though as an old shaker Nagash has a lot of nostalgia for me. You got me tempted to track one down and relive the horror of fighting him.
Great video as always, don't be so down on the painting, Nagash is looking great and loved the start! The painting tunes hit me on a deep level today - gotta point me in the direction of where I can find em :)
I've long thought this channel was one of the most underappreciated miniature channels, but as time has gone on, I've realized it's one of the most underappreciated channels on RUclips generally. Incredible content as always.
Great repose, and Nagash was one of those models which seemed cool as hell to me when I was 12 and just getting into Warhammer but could never afford like, there was always a new regiment to buy. Love the intro, but can't help but feel like you missed an opportunity to to a 'Taker entrance with the mini. Great work, get those fugly Dark Elfdar Wyches serviced!
The reposes makes the mini miles better but also your paint job brings out a lot of the features too. The paint job which the Eavy Metal team did for him back in the day was very strong whilst yours is much more subtle which also helps make a normally ghastly (pun intended) mini look miles better!
I've painted mine in grim dark earthen colors and the model really is not bad if painted in a... not so neon colored style :D that being said, mine leans on his staff (he put vertically on the ground like a walking stick) and the sword horizontally at his side at ease. A very good and natural pose.
The repose made a lot of difference. The model makes me think of Lo-Pan (from Big Trouble in Little China) and with that as inspiration I don't think it would be too big a conversion job to actually make it look much better than fine!
That looks sick! I think there's alot to be said about the "Eavy Metal" box art for this model as well. Your colour scheme and pose makes it look miles better
Nagash is in fact gash. Nice vid Dave as usual. Also apologies for accosting you at the Clutch gig the other week. First time out out in about 3 years so I may have come across as a drunk arse.
Came for the 90s nostalgia and Gary Morley fanboying, stayed for the evil dead 2 gunfight! Awesome stuff! Also check out Gary Morley's resculpt of this model for Raging Heroes (necromancer lord), it's really good!
I painted him up again several years back. I trimmed down his cheeks (the ones on his face😃) a little and I think it really helped. He's chunky but I think he's a product of his time, which is no bad thing! 👍
Gary sculpted a really cool improved version of Nagash for Avatars of War. Sadly that model's no longer available and I kick myself for not getting one every time I remember.
Hey dude I know its super off topic but i just got into painting and have an active hand tremor. Do you have any advice on how to deal or at least how to not totally get paint in all the wrong places? thankfully my first few models are orruks, but I still want to improve to get it looking as nice as i can
The repose is a huge improvement for the mini, especially when added to the subtle paint job. Really, the only thing stopping that repose from making it an amazing model is the giant party hat . . .
Releases on a Saturday and has some serious Saturday Morning cartoon vibes from my youth, if only the kids cereal was as bad for you now as it was back then.
Won't lie, when you said you were painting it however you felt like painting it, it elicited a wayward; "YAS QUEEEEEN!" . I apologise , can't promise I won't do it again. Keep it up bud, looks cracking! And keep the weird shit coming, ta :)
I am going nuts here trying to figure out where the "I am the Lord of the Harvest, bring it down, bring it down!" Reference comes from here man. I like to try and find them all lol, but this one is embarassing me, because I don't think it's anywhere nearly as obscure as past ones.

Those first 3 minutes and 46 seconds just made my day a shit ton better.
Love it at 3:16 when we can see your mouth moving in the corner as you perform the line live! Friggin epic as always, mate!
I never realized just how big that mini is! I figured the shots were just really zoomed in and he was the same as most other human-sized heroes. The repose helped leverage that a bit, made him look more threatening!
What kind of monster has to write down “get milk”? Should be enough of a priority that you don’t forget that.

'Nagash Laser Eyes' is now an official ranged attack option in my mind, no matter how angry my opponent at the gaming table gets.
There’s a world where people are shouting ‘NAGASH!! LAZER EYES!’ Before rolling dice.

Thanks mate! Still makes me chuckle too, and I seen it 300 times frame by frame hahaha

I laughed my ass of when the axe falls off of Tony's head. The pause and stare down is comedic gold.

I remember reading the fluff for Nagash's origin back in the day and thinking I wanted to collect an undead army. Then I saw the model.
Amazingly I thought he was awesome when I was a kid! Not entirely sure why…
That slight repose did a hell of a lot for the model, he looks so much less ...just kinda standing there. And he didn't even need a tactical rock/skeleton/ghost/skeletonrockghost to be leaping off to achive it.
