As a warriors fan, I was disgusted when they took Curry that year. I was even more pissed when they got rid of Monte Ellis and kept Curry few years later. I guess it's safe to say that I'd probably make a shitty GM.

That's alright, there's 31 GMs and 31 lead scouts from the NFL who still wake up drowning in their own tears every day since Tom Brady was drafted...in last place.
I mean if you ask anyone then if Curry would be what is he is today they'd be lying if they said they knew especially when there were so many factors screaming otherwise. Hindsight is 20/20 and a player like Curry is an anomaly. That gamble probably goes the other way in most cases.

Curry basically changed the way the league plays. He proved that pace and space wins. He harkens back to an era when people didn't differentiate between point and scoring guard. Oscar and West were expected to score get assists and handle the ball.
Actually its ok to be athletic like blake, the biggest reason is he doesnt have the mindset like lebron to keep his body healthy.. a lot of these nba players dont take care of their body.
10:56 how can you do so much research and honestly then dismiss a skilled, undersized, talented player that was able to have a ten year career in the league like that?
I believe steph curry changed the whole way college basketball recruits players anymore. Before curry the top 25 players were all mostly bigs. Now 6' shooters are highly ranked and recruited.
I can tell you one thing as a Timberwolves fan. Yes, the organization made the mistakes in drafting Rubio/Flynn instead of Curry, but as far as I know, there was a rumor that Curry had a call with the Wolves (I couldn't verify if he had a pre draft workout), but his father Dell, told the organization not to draft him as their pick. I am not sure on the reasons behind as to what that is, it might be the weather or perhaps there was someone in the organization at the time whom Dell Curry didn't like or was in a feud with. So the Wolves organization respected Dell's wish and didn't draft his son.
@@leandre8896 I guess it's a public information now. You can freely type "Dell Curry didn't want Steph in Minnesota" or something along those lines. Google will do the rest.
Dell probably knew what anyone who watches the NBA should know; getting drafted by the Wolves is almost like a death sentence to your career! Watching Andrew Wiggins's career will show you all you need to know about why Dell wouldn't want his son to be drafted by Minnesota!!!!
I believe the feeling at the time was that both curry and his dad were expecting and wanted to go to nyc with the knicks but got taken by gsw the pick ahead.
If harden stays in okc they run the west over the time period where the warriors dynasty was created. Them dudes were getting deep playoff experience at 20-23 years old. Harden loses a ton of accolades and money but that team would have been tough.
I just want to say, in the Timberwolves defense. Del Curry said that Steph wouldn't play in Minnesota for the Wolves... That's why they passed on him. Everyone seems to keep forgetting that.
Right! I think curry literally told every team before the Knicks that he didn’t want to play for them! But the warriors were like fuck it! We’re drafting him anyways! Lol
It's just another case of falling in love with athleticism or height instead of what makes a player great--smarts, heart, and the actual ability to play. The best players are not the most athletic. Does it help? Of course. Is it as important as actual ability to play the sport? No. But it is easy to get seduced by it. It's like a beautiful woman (or man): it can be difficult to see the actual person when you're contending with a great deal of outer beauty. It is easy to overlook a beautiful woman's flaws in her personality when you're distracted by a beautiful appearance--especially at the beginning when you have no experience with that person. It is also much easier to judge athleticism than it is ability to play successfully in the league. Do you think the Lakers knew about Kobe's work ethic or the Warriors about Steph's devotion to conditioning or what those things would wrought over time? No way. They're not horses; they're people.
Completely agree. There were so many high IQ players in the league that were nowhere near elite in athleticism, yet everyone kept harping on the same that. Same thing with football -- how many QB's check off all the boxes (height, wingspan, etc.) and turn out to be absolute busts. Smarts, Heart and ability trumps athleticism every time.
People forget that Jonny Flynn played in one of the greatest college basketball games of all time. He played 67 minutes in a 6 overtime game and won against Connecticut. I believe that's 67 minutes of a 70 minute game. He had quite a bit of hype from the end of his college season heading into the draft.
Jonny Flynn coulda been something special if that injury didn't totally destroy his game. Def didn't deserve to be taken ahead of Stef, but one of the biggest what-ifs in recent memory IMO
after the draft, it will be back to zero. 2nd round draftees can overplay 1st rounders. everthing can happen. how you work to improve your play, how you fit to your team, and how huge the chances given to you are (playing time) matter the most. just look at jokic 2nd rounder to mvp.
Anybody that saw what this skinny "baby faced" kid did in the 2008 NCAA Tournament, when he led a team of good but 2nd tier players, from a private school that had less the 2000 students to the Elite 8. And, then almost knocking off the eventual National Champions Kansas (L 59-57); had to know this guy had "IT". I live in NC and saw a few of his games in college and he was a defensive nightmare for everybody and, the central focus of every team they played, and he delivered almost every time; just like he just did.
His pre draft report wasn't too far off, at least for the beginning of his career. he won MVP on $40 million dollar contract and would have been on his way out of GS if he didn't bounce back from the injuries.
Honestly there was only 3 busts infront of Steph Curry, 1. Hasheem Thabeet 2.Tyreke Evans 3. Jonny Flynn. Although i’m not a fan of James Harden he is pretty decent but lately he hasn’t been good, Black Griffin was really good in his early days of his career but same thing like James Harden, hasn’t been all too good and Ricky Rubio out of the 3 has been the most consistent. Had an okay start to his career and had his prime a couple of seasons ago and right now he’s doing decent still.
Tyreke Evans is not as bad as people think yeah he's not no curry but he's definitely not a bust he had a lot of really productive seasons and I'd he didn't get suspended I think he might still be doing it
the only 2 players that in hindsight wasn’t a bad idea to draft over curry were blake and Harden blake a little questionable but he was still good people definitely shouldn’t be mad harden was drafted before curry bc how good harden turned out to be
Honestly as a Wolves fan the wolves would have destroyed Curry's career. Everything about the front office at that time was bad. The coach was bad. There was no way Curry would have been the player he is if he had gone to the wolves. I really wanted curry here that draft. I personally liked him a lot more than rubio. But I and happy for the NBA to have him playing for Golden State. If he had been a Timberwolf his career would be over by now.

Ricky Rubio was overhyped as a teenager and it was clear for anyone watching Euroleague. I remember that some teams just let him shoot more because it was a good strategy. Over the years he improved though so I'm pleased to see him develop into a really good player.
Being from Minnesota, I can never look at Zach Lavine without resentment.
Bulls fan here, tell me why
Yes, do tell why? I thought he was traded away as a package deal.
And you guys just this summer traded your young core to the Jazz for Rudy who (so far) has been a bust, must be rough
Hey Minnesota, thanks for Curry, Wiggins and Kuminga. For nothing in return. You guys rock!!!! Love ya'lls
Fax 😆
DAMN!! 🤣🤣
@@mongoslade277 Oh yea... and thanks for rejecting that silly Klay for Kevin Love deal when back when... you saved us!! You the REAL MVP!!!
@@kingtrawal That deal almost happened twice. Some of the best moves are the ones that are not made. The Warriors tried to trade Curry to Phoenix on draft day for Amare Stoudemire
Since I am a Timberwolves fan this vid hurt
Ricky rubio was actually a pretty good fit for the wolves and he played great basketball for them so it was not that bad of a pick
I remember when he first came into the league. He might of been 4 years in at this point and I remember all these old dudes on ESPN talking about LeBron and Steph Curry told all them he was a better scorer than LeBron. Said he was better than LeBron and I believed him everyone laughed ...lol he sure as hell showed them
In fairness, Curry had glass ankles. Was and is my 2nd favvorite player off all time. This is more of a testament to his greatness than any oversight on GMs/Teams evaluations
Lets not forget Curry was seen as very injury prone early in his career, which caused a slide.
Curry basically changed the way the league plays. He proved that pace and space wins. He harkens back to an era when people didn't differentiate between point and scoring guard. Oscar and West were expected to score get assists and handle the ball.
As a knicks fan i was crying when the warriors took curry 😭😭😭
Johnny Flynn also dealt with a good amount of knee injuries
It's better not to be a too athletic like Blake
But atleast a pure shooter and skilled like steph, it will last long
Actually its ok to be athletic like blake, the biggest reason is he doesnt have the mindset like lebron to keep his body healthy.. a lot of these nba players dont take care of their body.
10:56 how can you do so much research and honestly then dismiss a skilled, undersized, talented player that was able to have a ten year career in the league like that?
Tyreke really did look good though, it's just that he wasn't played in the position he was meant to at PG. Really unfortunate
I hated how every time someone in the media asked him what position he plays he would say “I’m a ball player”! He should have said I’m a PG!
Gotta love that ive watch this story 10+ times now but still watch every video about this
Everytime a channel upload a new version
I believe steph curry changed the whole way college basketball recruits players anymore. Before curry the top 25 players were all mostly bigs. Now 6' shooters are highly ranked and recruited.
Do one for Jokic. It might take a while tho lol
Source?
@@leandre8896 I guess it's a public information now. You can freely type "Dell Curry didn't want Steph in Minnesota" or something along those lines. Google will do the rest.
@@leandre8896 his mama
Tyreke's rookie year is his best, it is sad to see him fall from greatness. He was a beast!
I can imagine curry and rubio playing together. Damn…
Lol
So to make up for it they drafted every other PG. Talk about overcompensation.
as a clippers fan i’m still glad we took blake, my favourite player of all time
It's just another case of falling in love with athleticism or height instead of what makes a player great--smarts, heart, and the actual ability to play.
Solid explanation!! Dubs fan since early 90’s!! 🤘🏼
People forget that Jonny Flynn played in one of the greatest college basketball games of all time. He played 67 minutes in a 6 overtime game and won against Connecticut. I believe that's 67 minutes of a 70 minute game. He had quite a bit of hype from the end of his college season heading into the draft.
I love your channel bro
One of the best knowledgeable channels I've ever found in RUclips.. Bravo! 👋👋👋
Curry in Davidson was fun.
The scouts were right about one thing he is a defensive liability
Anybody that saw what this skinny "baby faced" kid did in the 2008 NCAA Tournament, when he led a team of good but 2nd tier players, from a private school that had less the 2000 students to the Elite 8. And, then almost knocking off the eventual National Champions Kansas (L 59-57); had to know this guy had "IT". I live in NC and saw a few of his games in college and he was a defensive nightmare for everybody and, the central focus of every team they played, and he delivered almost every time; just like he just did.
So goated as always
His pre draft report wasn't too far off, at least for the beginning of his career. he won MVP on $40 million dollar contract and would have been on his way out of GS if he didn't bounce back from the injuries.
“What happened to the 198 players drafted before Tom Brady?”
If they knew what we know now, Curry would have been the Number one pick by far.
I could imagine how Twolves become if they drafted both Rubio and Steph. Pretty sure Steph will solidified as SG.
there is a trend that scouts should consider... kids of former nba or d1 players tend to be solid picks.
Tyreke Evans is not as bad as people think yeah he's not no curry but he's definitely not a bust he had a lot of really productive seasons and I'd he didn't get suspended I think he might still be doing it
What happend with the 2017 1st pick Fultz?
Nike missed this one too
the only 2 players that in hindsight wasn’t a bad idea to draft over curry were blake and Harden blake a little questionable but he was still good people definitely shouldn’t be mad harden was drafted before curry bc how good harden turned out to be
I will never understand why the nba did not value the three back then‐‐or even decades prior.
3>2!!!
I loved seeing underdog and prove somethin
Fact is, Curry was an average player… For the way the game was played. Thus, he just changed the game to be the best 🤷♂️
So hard to follow. Can you make a clear outline?
i dont understand. why these people saying t-wolves failed to draft him. im a warriors fan but i dont blame T-wolves not drafting curry that time. curry’s first seasons on warriors kinda sucks tbh bcoz of his injuries and also that time we got terrible organization. when they decided to sell it and change the whole organization that’s the time we switch the flip and have a good run. and the rest is history. remember that the steve kerr/bob myers and warriors organization why curry’s success is on top rn.
Lol a lot of these warriors fans never watched Curry’s first few seasons. They didn’t even know warriors almost kept monte Ellis over him.
they shouldve atleast drafted brandon jennings he was literally the reason curry was injured; broke that boys ankles
Write the numbers would be an improvement to the video
He he... nice thinking about Harden and long term deal. Now we know how that ended.
Stephen Curry had became the top 10 point guard of playing a smart basketball career and finding his confidences working out on a good championship elite team level of winning 4 championships and a MVP award! Great video! I am just subscribed to your channel 💯👍🔔🙏 Does Jimmerrange respond?

And let’s go back to back
Dubnation we got very very lucky - and we are very very cery lucky to have CURRY ON OUR TEAM. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I remember my dad told me about how the coach before Steve Kerr was called crazy but now with him selecting klay and steph just look at it now...
Coaches don't pick players, gms and front offices do.
sometimes its not the players but its the teams development of rookies. some of these players would of done so well in the league if they were drafted elsewhere.
I lol'ed at your timberwolves fan comment. Well said, looking at mr Wiggins
As a heat fan never in the long run have a been disappointed
Tyreke Evans chester native love to see it
1:18 that guy makes it look like Curry got dropped into a 1970s college basketball game.
As a Wolves fan. You get used to Minnesota teams making stupid decisions
Try being a Kings fan 😒
all I can say is thank you Minnesota we love you in Oakland for that LoL pass on him twice

Lol you guys got lucky. He didn’t even want to play for you guys! He told every team before the Knicks pick that he didn’t want to play for them. But the warriors were the only team who were like fuck it! We’re drafting him anyways
@@8kings23 we will take it cause I grew up in East Oakland so I remember all the years of struggling once RUN TMC were gone so ain't nobody complaining out here LoL I'm just saying y'all had two top 5 picks and neither one worked out so you can put your feelings in your back pocket and sit on them 😂🤣🤣

Blake Griffin-superstar
Hasheem Thabeet-bust
James Harden-superstar/Hofer
Tyreke Evans-misdeveloped
Ricky Rubio-injured early but still a quality starter
Jonny Flynn-promising but got injured
Steph Curry-superstar/hofer
Jordan Hill-early journeyman
Demar Derozan-superstar
Brandon Jennings-promising but got injured

Curry said Minnesota past him because they thought he wouldn’t like the idea of playing golf at all over there , they knew he loved golf 😂
You can tell jimmer range don’t care to much about Blake griffin when talking about him.
The kings man.
GSW made Curry who he is as a player today. Can’t blame the first six teams, they wouldn’t have developed Curry the way GSW did. Simple! The perfect team for the right player!
Remember when commentators regularly called Steph "Steve Curry" for a couple years haha
I never really thought of this!!!.?!?,….!.!
