It's good that there's a fix but I'm with Tomley on this one. Traxxas leant into the "overbuilt" marketing and it just wasn't true. They cheaped out on a few dollars and then claimed otherwise to their customers. Hope they learn from this.
I have a Brushless Rustler 4x4 that has been on the shelf for over a yr. It needs some parts replaced but I never get around to it. Needless to say I stripped the front and rear diffs out of it and switched them into the Mini Maxx, they were a direct fit no modifications needed. I also took the brushless system out and put it in the Mini Maxx for 3s. I took the 2s system out of the Mini Maxx and put it in the Rustler 4x4 along with those stupid portal differentials. I don't understand why they did the portal differentials instead of spider gears. They already had a good system with the spider gears in the existing vehicles that they have in their lineup. Seems kind of silly to spend the research and development time on that portal axle design when they already had something good going....
Great to hear that the 1/10 4x4 diffs will fit. Pretty straightforward upgrade path. Thank you for the informative video as well as your earlier Mini Maxx videos.
Hey thanks for this update I immediately started looking at videos and noticed that everyone that was upgrading to the 3s system were blowing out the rear differentials because they were not designed for that system right out of the box. I appreciate the research and parts listing for the upgrade thanks again.
I love this truck stock with 2S, but both my kids on the 3 battery broke the spur gear #6888 and one car has a messed up rear diff. I haven't opened that up yet. I am a little disappointed Traxxas charged $269 and claims 1/10 scale strength but 3 battery packs in and I have 2 broken cars on a completely stock mini maxx. I wish they would do something for those of us who kept it stock...
Thanks for Info! Just placed an order on a 3S Combo with the additional Parts: TRX6882X, TRX5381X, TRX6778. Went straigt to the "X" Parts (TRX6882X, TRX5381X) as i saw them. could not be wrong just a better version right?
Bro I just installed the front diff for the Rustler/Stampede..it’s works fine so far.Im still on the BL2S but I’m doing backflips off a cardboard ramp in the living room(they say it don’t backflip)the rear diff is still stock but late tonight I might mess with it and I got the slipper from the Rustler..I’m going to be experimenting
It needs to be the diff from a brushed 4x4 which are geared 12/47. VXL 4x4 diffs are 13/37. There are hardened gears for this diff too, 6782 and 6783 to give you 4 spider gears.
They advertise it as bulletproof period. Your into it for $400+ to rum 3s lol. Omni terminator does it for $212 on Amazon mine has been a tank on 3s 3700kv 24 pinion for months haven't broken it. Also i like Traxxas XMAXX is king but always buy my Traxxas rc used at a great price
6778, 6882x is spider gears an 5381 the diff housing. You didn't give us the part numbers? Or maybe those are revo slash too. Those are 4x4 xl5 stampede it fits too.
Advertised as being able to handle the velineon upgrade right out the box. llls yeah right. im over traxxas, i wont be paying to be lied to. now everybody gotta drop another 35 dollars into these rigs. what a shame.
Thanks for the review! I'm a fellow hobby store owner, so I do appreciate video like this. I'm one of the biggest Traxxas Exclusive dealer in the west coast and have to say that the Mini Maxx is one of our best newly released RTR from Traxxas in the past several years. We took our first delivery few weeks back and had our Team Reckless Crew take it out to the skate park. After 3 battery packs (recharges), only component we broke was the front shock shaft. Recommend replacing with TRA1664T $10.00 Hardened Steel shock shaft. Other than that, it was golden! Running on BL2s is plenty fast enough, where running on VXL3s is truly not recommended. It's still a 1/16 car, that most people tend to forget. Thanks again for the informative video. Unlike others who just complains and find faults to use as a fish bait for their channel growth. Traxxas is not perfect by all means, but there's always a fix around it.
How can a reviewer be wrong when the video shows the viewer what happenedin real time? No matter how much you try and convince yourself it's not an issue because you want the product, doesnt mean poor quality will go away lol.
Should they not have this as a part that it comes with from factory? I love Traxxas and have many Traxxas cars, but this should have never left the factory with this weak of a differential. My opinion only. 😊
In stock form the car is extremely hard to break. But if you want upgrades traxxas offers that. If you upgrade to the slipper all of these issues go away. If you break the transmission it would be on the customer for not adjusting the slipper properly.
Generally my customers that buy ali express cars are typically not traxxas customers. This thing is awesome stock. But if you want it to be blazing fast costs you a little more. The beauty of this country is people with different budgets can still have fun.
I don't understand why everyone is so upset. Traxxass has been lying on boxes for years. Lately the best way to know Traxxass is lying is to check and see if they printed it on a box. If so they're definitely lying. "The fastest name in radio control*" lol. Sure you are Traxxass. Sure you are.
Across most categories compared to other companies the fastest usually holds true with stock equipment. I am not saying they have the best everything because we do stock other brands that have different offerings and are better at different things.
A 10th scale vxl system is overkill for that tiny little truck anyway .The problem being solved will be the center diff upgrade if it ever becomes available. Anybody with a little bit of knowledge in this hobby would run a smaller brushless motor2845 and a 60 amp ESC and yes the old design slash diff part #6778. Traxxas just wants you to buy there vxl for a 170$ which is a rip off anyway.
A center diff still allows shock loading to occur. Even with the thinnest oil there's still stress on the driveline. Just adding the center diff won't make up for weak gears. If it's the same cheap pot metal they used in my Xmaxx there's no saving it. It won't survive long on stock power.
Like I said the 6778 diffs and the vxl system designed for a full sized 10th scale truck is over kill. 125$ or not at your shop the system is not suitable for that tiny truck. You also have no idea wether the diffs are going to explode or not with the upgraded center diff do to the fact nobody has it yet. You also don't have to explain the concept of a center diff to me. I have been in this hobby for 20 years. I still wouldn't buy a vxl system for 120$ That ESC is a relic how long it's been out.
Thanks for the part numbers! You the man!🙏

Yup I like Traxxas but Omni terminator smokes it . 3s, center diff,7075, Metal Cvds etc. All for cheaper.

its not just the rear diff ive seen front pinon break off the front drive shaft also

Still waiting for mine i pre ordered but my hobby shop has not received them in yet
We have plenty in stock
Thanks for all the info you provided 🔥🔥🔥👈🏾
Traxxas has made a bevel diff upgrade so you don’t have to build one with parts. TRX10780
Yes we are waiting on those to come in. As of today we are building the diffs out of existing parts. Price is $5 difference
only up from here. they will learn. but i think they clearly did not test it to the full extend and just said it looks like it could work with 3s
Thanks for Info!

Any diff fluid in them and if so what weight?
Well, I just think for a little more, just buy the Maxx v2 and forget all that upgrading 🤔🙂
Both have their place in this hobby

Nice . On the frontier of discovering what works better 👍
Yes all the same parts, 4wd 1/10th scale line of diffs work.
LOL I should say the 4wd slash based vehicles.

@@BishyRC these are the 4x4 diffs they use on the VXL models
@@Freakeye_RC I can only find 12/47 listed as spares for xl-5 4x4’s. Which vxl model(number) uses 12/47?
So should we only need to upgrade the rear diff? Or should we be doing both front and rear diffs?
So far we are just doing the front diffs
@@waldorfrc The title states rear diff?!!
So whats the three part numbers you need? You never stated them in the video
TRA 5381 $4.25
TRA 6778 $15.00
TRA 6882X $15.00
Does that work on front and rear?
yes front and rear
Difs on my 3s mini Maxx are fine but the one I kept stock 2s are in a million pieces
Yea it's me who started this shit as you say 😂😂
Glad to hear that there's a solution coming 💪🏾

A great price is always great.
Its the xl5 stampede 4x4 diff is direct drop in an im sure other traxxas cars use those same diff xl5 brushed 4x4 stampede
6778, 6882x is spider gears an 5381 the diff housing. You didn't give us the part numbers? Or maybe those are revo slash too. Those are 4x4 xl5 stampede it fits too.
Those are the part numbers that I personally used.

Thats the complete diff.
