Fun fact about cooperation in birds. Magpie's will adopt their younger siblings if something happens to the parents. They're social creatures and will visit the nesting territory of their parents throughout their lives. And if they find unattended young they'll move into the nest and raise them. I just thought that was neat
I had to save a magpie from a Trashcan last summer, and while it was very unhappy about being saved at the time I saw the magpies again a couple of months ago and I really hope that magpie is still out there.
Cool, fun fact: that is because thier siblings share 50% of thier DNA with them, and evolution is about the survival and mulitiplication of the genetic material, by helping thier siblings they help thier own genetic information spread. I think this is pretty neat too
@ahakddiwnfs1742they (probably) don't, but over generations the gene material of the magpies that did randomly care slightly more for their close relatives had a slightly higher chance of being passed down, so over many thousands of years caring for close relatives became fixed in the genome
Yet the cousins of the Australian magpies, the gorgeous currawongs will reluctantly feed baby currawongs that they aren't related to but will feed baby birds of other species 🤔
"In a language probably lost forever, some ancient human somewhere, must have been the first to say "I love you" to someone else" Who told you it was okay to make people ugly cry like that?
If his copper were good, would we ever know of him? Would someone leave him a "good review"? Or people back then too only wrote when pushed to the boiling point and pissed beyond reason? Imagine only being known because someone was sufficiently pissed at how bad of a job you did...
I am not kidding. This video is my favorite video of all time now. Genuinely, this is the most a video has filled me with wonder and laughter ever, it is so profound and dare I say even beautiful! Thank you Curious Archive, I’ll probably watch this video several more times picking out all the good stuff.
"Just because I didn't went through a phase where I was a furry rat-horse doesn't mean..." The year has just started and the competition for the best quote of 2025 is already fierce.
Curious Archive is usually very phylosophical, very calm and full of fact, knowledge and thought. This video is just pure chaos and I'm all here for it.
I could be remembering wrong, but every exurb1a video I've ever watched had this annoying undertone of misanthropic nihilism so I enjoyed this CA one quite a bit more.
12:40 and the more modern classic: "You trust your chemicals to _tell you_ they are chemicals. All knowledge is based in that which we cannot prove! Will you fight, or will you _die like a dog?"_
Am I the only one that immediately found it cringe and forced? I'll see myself out if so but my Lord, couldn't even enjoy the video because all I was hearing was a flaccid and unfunny bill wurtz
@Cotif11 After finishing the whole video I must agree. Some jokes landed and I liked the switching back between evolution and altruism, but after some time it didn't really go anywhere. And the rest was quite dire. Sizeble amounts of cringe where felt that's for sure
This felt like ADHD 😂 Serious note though, altruism in nature makes complete sense as it increases survival rate; you're more likely to make it the more friends and fewer enemies you have.
This is the kind of content I have a RUclips account for, and it's the type of stuff that should be on everyone's recommended page... this video, makes you laugh, cry, think, learn and most importantly, make you want to improve... and for that, I thank you, Curious Archive as a whole, for making this amazing video.
Finishing this felt like waking up from a life-changing acid trip. You went literally everywhere and anywhen, and by the end you simply settled at the bottom of the ocean to listen to the ponders of a whale and a horseshoe crab.
I read a scientific American article that talked about tiny pools that receded and refilled as being more plausible because of the harsh conditions of thermal vents.
This video is truly something everyone should watch once, it may be nerdy and a little hard to take in at first watch but it covers philosophical and sociology topics with earnestly and gives a grand perspective on the human condition with easy to digest questions. But also *MEMES THE DNA OF THE SOUL* (Stains of Time starts playing)

I'll see you when I'm done!

I'm drunk, watching your video on my gf's account, and I just wanna say Curious Archive, you are seriously talented. The way you string a video together is actually really amazing and I appreciate you.
I enjoyed watching this in my toga, with a mullet, on Nebula. Felt like you were channeling Bill Wurtz and Exurb1a a bit, which I absolutely loved. Excellent video!
If altruism is a survival strategy, it’s a pretty shitty strategy, but I wouldn’t want to live in a world without kindness. (So I guess it is a good strategy!)
this video makes me feel physically ill. in a mere 20 minutes, this one video touches on concepts that ive never seen thought of, in a way that i couldeve never imagined. a basic history of the past, present, and a possible future, intercut with a deconstruction of what evolution ACTUALLY is and the difference between free will and simple chemicals, mixed in further with non sequitur segments that appear to go off the rails but still feed back into the original points, and later points. this video goes from the smallest to the largest organisms. what has existed, and what could exist. creatures which havent changed for millions of years, and ones that have become an entirely different being. mankinds relation with their extinct cousins, and their domesticated pets. economics, families, parasites, memes, society, extinctions, aliens, the universe. everything and anything. this video makes me feel physically ill, like an amazing rollercoaster. i love you.

This video feels like Max0r and Bill wurtz had a kid
I like how this barely even took 30 seconds to go from last-minute assignment to late-night existential crisis
I'm surprised it took so long
Then have you heard of exurb1a? Yeah. It's this tunred up to 11

Correct
This is gonna be like the history of the entire world
How to say peak without saying peak? Curious Archive
Real
Grounded
This was so good. The contrast between the unserious and silly presentation of history to the deep philosophy of kindness was beautiful.
This is the spiritual successor to “history of the entire world, i guess”.
Definitely can see where they took inspiration from
Ethically sourced Exurb1a
This is combo of bill wurtz, exurb1a, and sam O'Nella. @@sepxoct

it obviously took much inspiration from it, but it is FAR from it, in EVERY aspect (as in, it is strictly worse)

i’m tearing up a little finishing the video, its perspectives like this that remind me what it really is to be human :)))
Fr this video is so peak
Watch Bill Wurtz's history of the entire world, I guess
i would recommend exurb1a, he's got some great content similar to this
@jonaut5705 This video kinda seems inspired by exurb1a honestly

Only after 11 minutes did I realize I’m watching a Curious Archives video and not an Exurb1a video.
Absolutely! Reminds me to check out their channel again.
Same thoughts. And perhaps a sprinkle of Trey the Explainer. Was expecting alien ecosystems, not an existential crisis. Lol
I thought so too
I could be remembering wrong, but every exurb1a video I've ever watched had this annoying undertone of misanthropic nihilism so I enjoyed this CA one quite a bit more.

12:40 and the more modern classic: "You trust your chemicals to _tell you_ they are chemicals. All knowledge is based in that which we cannot prove! Will you fight, or will you _die like a dog?"_
Which itself is a meme; it spread and is iterated upon in new contexts
This channel went from documenting fictional ecosystems to philosophical existential crisis and I love it.
