  • Windows 11 is now out in beta with a redesign that many people are saying resembles macOS. With new animations, wallpapers, icons, widgets, and even a centered task bar, is the Windows 11 redesign enough to win over this lifelong macOS user, or does this fresh coat of paint only hide the inherent problems of Windows?

For a competent screen recorder i use "oCam" which is pretty decent. Other than a missing built-in screen recorder I'd say Windows 11 is an interesting OS. I still want to replace my old HP with a Mac though, especially since my old HP (a 4th gen Core i7 model) isn't compatible with Windows 11.

For recording your screen, if you have an nVidia GPU, you can use Shadowplay. It comes bundled with GeForce expoerience, which is mostly mandatory if you want to have your graphics drivers up to date.
In your case, where you have an AMD gpu, you could have used ReLive, although I'm not certain how well it performs.

@Wednesday Personally, I disagree and find the Mac UI much more consistent and intuitive to use. I love the "press enter to to rename" and really wish other OS's worked the same, possibly just because I find myself needing to rename a lot of files in my work and the extra steps of right-clicking to do so is just a lot of extra effort. Really not trying to turn this into an OS pissing contest, I spend pretty much equal time working in MacOS and Windows but just happen to prefer the Mac interactions.

I don’t understand how widgets are attributed to Android. Both Windows AND Apple had “widgets” BEFORE Android. I’ve even seen big reviewers like MKBHD make this mistake. This is what most critics of Apple users forget, MOST of us came from Windows machines. The highly customizable, bloated, easily infected, buggy experience with almost zero customer service or satisfaction is very familiar. For people looking to pick up their machine and get straight into the fun or productive work without tinkering, Apple was a godsend.

Your overview confirmed my hunch that this is Vista, Take 2, for better or worse. The hardware suppliers such as Compaq, Dell, HP, Acer and so on made vista the issue where they thought they could get away with just a standard build for xp and upgrading the software when the hardware wasn't ready

Having nothing on the left makes it visually unappealing to me. If I had designed it I would have split them up and put the quick access icons on the left of the task bar and the time/date can stay on the right. As someone who used an Apple II then a Mac from inception until the late 90s then Windows (with Solaris / Linux and NeXT thrown in at times) including Windows 11 beta I'm loving BigSur on the M1 Air I picked up a couple of months ago. Yes I'm running WSL2 and Kali on my PC but having the BSD underpinnings where I can open up a terminal for some basic tasks and then the stability on Big Sur is simply fantastic. I've rebooted my Air once since I got it... once.
In regards to Windows 11 I like it better than Windows 10, but if things continue as is it's going to be a nightmare upgrade for many users... which oddly enough will be just about the same time Apple releases Monterey and the new M1X Macs shortly followed by the new Air models early next year. Sure we can all believe it was supply chain issues that pushed back the new MBP release but was it? or is it Apple preparing a marketing push for all those potentially frustrated Windows users in late 2021 early 2022. ;)

7:07 It does have an in-built screen recorder which is Xbox Game Bar. But the problem is that it can record only programs like some sort of games or your browser. You cannot record the desktop or file explorer but its definitely better than other 3rd party software's where you might have fps drops while recording on a low spec pc.

The main issue with display, video, and graphics in Windows is the fact that graphics cards, screens, drivers, and software can vary. There are options to adapt to lower or higher end graphics, or effects such as animations can be changed or disabled in Microsoft Windows. With Apple, the hardware, software, drivers, and operating system are consistent, so Apple can test something and know it will work.
This case is similar with Linux, BSD, and Android. Apple does use different hardware, but they can control which hardware will be used and test all of it.
Firefox and other browsers had vertical tabs. The difference is the interface was implemented inside of a window in the graphical environment and not as part of the Microsoft Windows graphical interface. This is why Firefox does not change with themes implemented by the graphical environment of the operating system. The exception is iOS for a noncompetitive reason (another story).

Screen recorder work around - open Microsoft PowerPoint (2013 and later), click on the Insert tab, on the far right, it should say "Screen Recording", click on that. It will allow you to choose which area of your screen you want to record, and if you want to record with or without sound. Once done recording, need to save video to your computer (right click on video and save it). Hope that helps. But yeah, Windows needs to add a built-in screen recorder...
File Explorer - If you open up File Explorer, top left is called “quick access”. You can save your most used folders under "quick access" (Right click on a folder in File Explorer and go to "Pin to Quick Access".). If you right click on file explorer on the task bar, those most used folders show up. Quite handy. [Question - is this available on a Mac?]

23:40 - Device manager and other "artifacts" from the good old control panel are still there, so they are not new at all. They don't remove or heavily modify them for two reasons:
    1) - companies tend to have macros and scripts on their enterprise pc-s that interface with the control panel, and removing it would break them.
    2) - company IT guys usually have to work on many systems with many versions. It's a lot easier for them to just have the same old high efficiency UI than to navigate through a different settings menu every time.
Also, I kinda find it funny how you praise the new start menu, while me, who uses windows daily, I'm kinda pissed by it. In win10 I could have set it up quite similar to this if I wanted to, but in win11 this is the only option and that's it. I kinda feel like with Win11 Microsoft has moved towards macOS where it should not have, and did not where it should have 😅

I have both a mac and windows laptop. One thing I found annoying with windows is when I have a regular bluetooth keyboard hooked up with the windows laptop I can't wake it from sleep from that keyboard (I have to touch a key on the laptop first, even though that same keyboard will wake my mac from sleep). If I hookup a usb keyboard that works on either computer it will wake up either that it is hooked up to. The other annoyance is windows still has menus that look like they were designed back in the 90s that MS never updated. Guess there is a lot of legacy code that MS has not bothered to update. Now I won't give Apple a clean bill of health when it comes to consistency of their gui but it is a lot less haphazard feel and look to it than Windows. The other weird thing I discovered is when I use an ethernet splitter running off my router to both computers, the mac asserts dominance in accessing the internet over the windows laptop (I have to disconnect the mac from the splitter in order for the windows laptop to access the internet).

Yeah... because there's not much else to talk about, because those are what MS advertised themselves when pitching Windows 11.. Microsoft at this point doesn't care about consumer usability features at all, they KNOW they've lost that battle to Mac OS. It's just catering to corporate and gamer userbase. Mac OS is light years ahead of Windows in terms of ease of use for personal computing, and will continue to be the center of app developers' focus.

    • @TuhinDasVision
      @TuhinDasVision 3 года назад

@@mini9503 I do agree with you at this very moment. MS is not doing anything great in terms of making Windows OS much user friendly and most importantly in terms of security, however not to forget that MS also has to cater all the hardwares, processors which also they don’t make it. On the other hand, iOS doesn’t have this constraint because it’s completely controlled by Apple inc (unless someone is making Hackintosh).
Still Windows OS has more 85% user base. Being a stack developer for more than 12 years, I could say max of the developers use both the OS for their development works.
You could argue on this with me but numbers will show the fact (worldwide NOT only USA).
It’s not about OS, it’s the Arm chip which revolutionized the processor world and Intel is kinda doomed.
iOS is for ease of use, Windows is better for multi tasking, file management & server setup. I use both the systems over half a decade and it’s my own work & personal experience.
The more better the OS & technology evolves, more ease of usability for consumer.
