Every time. He was one of my favorite people on the planet. The fact that it was over 2 years ago does nothing to make it easier. The show has never been the same without him.
You know what the worst part is? At first everyone was tight lipped about just how bad it was. The initial announcement was that he had a stroke, but not that he had THE stroke. The announcement that he was officially done wasn't until weeks later, and being in the dark for a few weeks gave me this misguided idea that perhaps he was in recovery. Maybe he was gathering up some hilarious stroke material to unleash on us when he got back. Nope. In reality those weeks were spent waiting for ANY sign of life, and none appeared. And it hit me like a ton of fuckin bricks, and still hurts to this day. It hurts because he was so clearly in his prime. He just released a great hour special, just did the Comedy Central roast spot, that motherfucker was on the rise. We should have had him for another 20 years. Instead he's just going about his day one minute, and the next minute everything that was Patrice was gone and nothing was left but a slab of meat. A beautiful brilliant man taken in an instant.
