    OMG, Your playing skills are gorgeous!. If I close my eyes I can actually hear santana's phrasing. Great looking Gibson Les Paul Also. 2019 has no weigh reliefs, no bad quality control, 1 piece body and the good Mahogany neck and body. The only part where I like mapple in a les paul it's in its Flame top. Like I said, everything in this video is perfect. Btwz can you please share that awesome backing track?

    • @MadsBoldingMusic
      @MadsBoldingMusic  3 года назад +2

      I thank you very much - it's much appreciated! :) And I must say that I did lend a thought or two to Santana while recording this!
      I hope you find your perfect Les Paul - the 2019 Standard range is a pretty good bet, if you want something traditional made to modern standards in terms of quality control and consistency. It certainly is a step in the right direction compared to Gibson's previous decade, and I could feel the difference right out of the box.
      I have tried tracking down that backing track, and I simply could not do it - I don't even remember what I was searching for, when I stumbled upon it on youtube one day... but it really is a good one.
      But if you are looking for generally good quality backing tracks, then I recommend a channel called Benjamin Harrison: ruclips.net/user/BenHarrisonMusic
      He has made quality tracks for years, so he has a wide variety to choose from at this point with more coming every week. He's especially good at making his tracks harmonically interesting and groovy, although he also does jazz, blues and anything in between.

    I was not too happy with the fretwork, so called school bus tops and had sharpish edges, I had to do a bit of dressing to smooth them out, dont know if thats a fluke in my case but it was disappointing, as it was my first Les after **% years. Good action though and no fret buzz so it has been set up well. Still good after a year, but frets seem soft as they are worn more than I would expect, for just bedroom playing, but I do play just about every day so...Anyway the sustain is amazing which is what makes a Les Paul and makes my cheaper guitars pale in the shade. I love the smell of the Nitro Cellulose when I take it out the case. I'm so glad I got it, it's worth it, as it's made well as per it's reputation, just a bit of a nag about the frets, never mind.

    • @MadsBoldingMusic
      @MadsBoldingMusic  3 года назад

      Sorry to hear about the frets. Mine were good and are still doing juuuust fine! Although I don't play the guitar everyday - depends on the job :)

      They seem to be nice guitars across the board.
      I'd even go so far as to recommend buying them online on stores that allow selection between individual examples of weight and tops, since those are to taste anyhow, and everything else is pretty darn consistent - especially compared to earlier generations of Gibsons.

    what type of Amp are you using? does yours hum when you're not playing it and you're not holding any part of the guitar does it pop once in awhile?

    • @MadsBoldingMusic
      @MadsBoldingMusic  2 года назад

      I use a 1983 Boogie Mark IIC in this clip. A lovely amp that to my ear gives me something in between a well worn blackface Fender and a Vox-type midrange.
      The amp does hum a fair bit; it's not the quietest in the world. They are meant to be played in concert though, so judging what seems loud at home is generally unproductive. Taking that very amp to a gig this Friday, it felt as quiet as a church mouse.
      The best way of avoiding hum when not holding a guitar is generally to get in the habit of turning it down between songs (or when not playing).
      Some infrequent noise can be heard every once in a while from this particular amp, but it's pretty old. I'm maintaining it well despite its age, but any old amp will have some little quirks from a lifetime on the road. Most of my amps have a few years on them at this point :)

    I really want the 50s. But I am afraid it will sound muddy. I know some people like the "warmth" but I think it is mud. Does this 50s have a nice top end?

    • @MadsBoldingMusic
      @MadsBoldingMusic  4 года назад

      I think it does, but it always depends on the individual guitar. I'd say that this series leans toward the lower-wound PAF-style Gibsons of the 50's (as they darn well should given the marketing), and as such there's great potential for some twang in whatever model you get.
      Out of my humbucking guitars, this one is the least muddy - if that's anything to go by.
      The best advice will always be to find an example that speaks to you, because I'm pretty sure that there'll be one for you out there.

    Nice, I got a question. I bought this same exact model and mine came with a tonepros bridge, did yours? And if you don’t know you can tell by the orientation of the saddles. 2 forward 4 back is Gibson and 3 forward 3 back is tonepros. Thanks

    • @MadsBoldingMusic
      @MadsBoldingMusic  4 года назад

      Thanks :)
      It would seem that mine has 3/3 as well, but I must admit that I can't see Gibson never make such a design themselves.
      From my limited knowledge on the subject, Tonepro parts are popular after-market upgrades usually done to Gibson guitars anyway. If it really is a Tonepro-part it might just be Gibson having no manufacturing in place for that specific bridge and then outsourcing it to a trusted quality brand.
      Please, share your understanding with me, though - I would love to learn!

    • @sebastianrothman2871
      @sebastianrothman2871 4 года назад

      Mads Bolding from what I’ve seen, some of these come with the Gibson abr1 and other come with the tone pros. The reason I don’t really see it as an upgrade is because when you normally buy tonepros it comes with a locking system so that the bridge stays attached, which this one doesn’t. And even the locking set of tonepros is cheaper cost wise than the Gibson abr1. I just found it a bit annoying on a guitar in this price range. Thanks for the response though

    • @MadsBoldingMusic
      @MadsBoldingMusic  4 года назад

    • @MadsBoldingMusic
      @MadsBoldingMusic  4 года назад +3

      Thanks a bunch - really appreciate it! My settings make the most sense, if you have an old Mesa Boogie Mark IIC (or similar) to hand, but here goes!
      Preamp Vol: 10 (Bright switch pulled)
      Treble: 10 (Shift switch pulled)
      Bass: 5
      Middle: 7
      Master: 0,5-ish (Boost switch pushed in (very loud amp for apartments, I tell ya!))
      Lead circuit off
      Graphic EQ on amp to taste - but I often take a bit of 80 hz out and add a bit of 240 and 2k.
      General pointers though: Amp on/over the point of breakup, perhaps boosted slightly into the front. Don't be afraid of boosting the treble. Valve/tube Amps often sound good with the treble at about 8/10 or higher, especially in a mix and with humbuckers - at least for my sound. If it feels too piercing, try turning the amp down a slight bit - and feel the difference. It'll make the highs of your guitar glassy and the bass/gainy side of your guitar sound clear.
      Have a wonderful day!

      Not sure about that actually! It's just some backing track that I found at the time, and I felt inspired to use it. Obviously it has some Santana vibes though, so there's that at least!

      Well you don’t know how to play guitar? It definitely gives you vibrato, you can move a guitar neck very easily, and it will change the sound for a moment, and it does look cool!

    If Gibson wants to go back to their roots they should lower the prices on their standard les paul’s and stop being so greedy. It was mainly about giving people a nice cool simple product that wasn’t supposed to drag you down with payments. That was Gibson’s main goal. Not to make the entire world work for something that isn’t the right asking price. I could see if they have debt issues and maybe it’s not my place to say anything. I just think they should go back to a time where everything wasn’t so much money just to say we used to be good and now we’re gonna keep this brand as it is and see how much money we can make because we don’t make guitars like we used to

    • @MadsBoldingMusic
      @MadsBoldingMusic  4 года назад

      You know... Gibson makes questionable decisions with some frequency, but I for one am very pleased with their 2019-lineup. Can one maker of guitars please everyone? Well... no. I don't think so. Certainly not all the time.
      I, however am happy with having purchased the 2019 Les Paul Standard.
      Adjusted for inflation, the price has actually not gone up by much of anything since the 50's, even though the industry has changed a whole lot since then.
      In the end, I ask myself, whether a guitar gives me good tones, a fun time and some inspiration now and then. This guitar does.
      I wish upon you the same in your guitar journey :)
