I've been in the hobby for over 40 years and this is what I see....People buy an RC vehicle and TRY to break it and then COMPLAIN when they do. I bought a Mini-Maxx, its a great truck even with just the 2S system.....
It does 50 mph with a 3s for about 3 run bys before shitting itself and breaking. Is not 3s capable without hundreds of dollars of upgrades. Just watch everyone elses video. They actually did the upgrade. Not one survived. Grom blx now the king.
To all the people who are complaining about issues with the diffs and the recever box. Let me offer up some context and give you a little reminder about how things work in the industry. First of all this is the first shipment. Why does that matter? Because that's what usually happens with the first batches of cars. The first production runs of some of the best cars ever have been horrible. One example is the mighty x maxx. Back in 2015 they were a legitimate fire hazard when run normally. There are videos on RUclips of people's escs going up in flames from just running normally. It was so bad that traxxas actually had to issue a recall on them to save them from getting sued. They sent out new escs with fusable links that would kill the esc if it shorted out, preventing a massive fire. However that wasn't exactly a good solution. Even if you had a xmaxx that didn't catch fire, they were known for breaking driveshafts and other things. Then traxxas decided to redesign the car and make it 8 s capable. It was a huge improvement and ever since then, they have been running the 8s redesign, and it is considered one of the best rc cars one can buy. Here's another example from the other side of the isle. Arrmas incredible kraton 6s was known for bending its plate chassis under normal use for a while. It was advertised as a 6s basher and bent expensive parts when bashed. Not to mention issues with arrms that exploded if you landed even slightly funny, diffs that had basically a sheer pin in them that constantly broke. And over time and several revisions they have gradually made these issues better, just like the x maxx, and now its just as, if not more, respected and loved by the comunity. My point is that while first impressions are generally everything, a bad first impression on a gen 1 car is not exactly the end of the world. Considering where these cars are made, issues can come about between the approved production prototype and then the ready to release RC car. We sometimes have to give company's the benefit of the doubt when it comes to hiccups in the first gen cars. Do i like this reality. No. I would love to live in a world where everything that was ever produced was perfect. First, try. But unfortunately thats not the world we live in. The groms had issues, arrma fixed them. traxxas will follow suit most likely. For those who are upset with the lack of 3s capability out of the box despite the frankly sketchy and unclear advertisement, maybe something went wrong with the diffs. Maybe there was a bad batch of cast material. Maybe things changed from initial release to in store purchase. Originally it was supposed to come with a slipper clutch stock. In the retail models and advertisements, it does not. Maybe it was changed for a reason, maybe traxxas made a mistake taking it out? They upped the price 20 bucks so maybe the next batches will have the slipper assembly in it to help with the diffs. Lets all releax and see what happens, and not run around burning everything down because small issues when running a car out of stock are present.
Yes, agreed center diff helps a lot. It helps more on landing than taking off jumps as let say your front or back wheels hit the ground first all that torque is being transferred into the center diff then the opposite front or back and saving your gears in the process
Traxxas and Arrma both are keeping it hot. I have both brands and love them both. Man we got Arrma, Traxxas, Losi and Redcat in the house. I enjoy the hobby. People don't know how to enjoy life.

I love my Mojave Grom and will be upgrading it to brushless, but I think this will reign supreme in the mini RC market. It’s expensive, but for the extra $70 over the BLX Groms, you get a larger truck with a 1/10 power system and a much larger battery (3500mah is insane for a small scale. The 1400 that comes in the Groms is pitiful. Even with the brushed Grom, I’m lucky to get more than 10-12 minutes. And that’s not even running it hard). I will (hopefully) be getting a Mini Maxx (depending on when my hobby shop is able to get them) and I think it’s going to be my favorite small-scale truck.
