Lou, I am very much like a young version of yourself. My grandfather was a farmer, from Ukraine but he would say the same thing. "No eat, no you need grow." Which I follow by my heart to this day. I have an entire yard full of 8 fig varieties because I am in love with figs and mulberries. I am on the west coast of Washington so our weather is milder and I don't need to wrap my figs (though I will place leaf mulch at the base to insulate my roots) I really get excited to see new videos from you. I've been watching for a while but forgot to subscribe so I just did. Keep posting your content. I'll be here to live vicariously through the camera, watching your beautiful STELLAR figs grow :)
I summer pruned my fig orchard yesterday still training them for braber production as over hear in the north of England my mane crop figlets have not even started to show. 😎♥️☘🌳🌳🌳👍
Hi, Maya! White wash? That's a bee ine to me. Haha! To be honest, I do not do very much to prepare my figs for Winter storage. I do try to make sure that they are well into dormancy, but I've even stored them when they weren't with no I'll effects. It might be a good idea to spray them with Neem oil, if you spot any insects or mites, but I've been extremely fortunate in that regard, as well. The best advise is to try your best to grow healthy, vigorous, and happy fig trees! Once you've done that, they will ask little else in return. Regards, Lou Monti
This is yr #3, and I'm finally getting some fig nuggets showing., Began late July.and has started to show buds on every branch.. Should I water it daily Or just 1-2 times a week.?.
I'm afraid that I'd have to have much more information to answer your question accurately. How big your tree is, how established or old it is, in ground or container grown, what Zone your in, recent climate history, rainfall, temperatures, ground level, water table, or watering methods, tree health and vigor, fig variety, etc! However, for a general answer, I think that it's not a good idea to water daily and that a good soaking once or maybe twice a week is a better approach. Good luck! Lou Monti
@@loumonti10 I'm in a tropical zone , central Texas, HOT MOST OF YR. Been in ground about 3 yrs.first yr it stablished it's roots, , second yr it showed some progress, but the polar blast this past February stopped it in its tracks.I cut the dried branches to the ground, since then it's grown to 5.5 ' tall.showing Figlets on every Branch.
Hi, Ryan. Personally, I like between 5 and 10 gallon grow bags for that purpose. 7 gallons works nicely for most sm.j all to medium size trees. Good luck! Lou Monti
Hi, Mike! With figs, I really don't think it matters very much. Take a look at my latest video and you can examine the results if you like. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti
