The game over screen saying ‘fantasy is dead’, implies to me some deeper 4th wall breaking shenanigans later, atlus does tend to have their game over screens be in context. And here saying that can be many meanings since the player is already clued in to pay attention, fantasy is dead could mean the fantasy from the fiction novel, our world, it could be protagonists fantasy, it could also be some wierd mix of this world being a metaphor for our own (the player’s) fantasy dying. On completely different note (probably), I’m not sure how much I believe the game is only 4 months, like Persona this game does have a calendar menu no one will probably use, and it does stop scrolling after 4 months, but that time frame seems so short (roughly 120ish , less since you don’t start on day 1, and don’t end on day 30) for the social systems in place, raising social stats even if the progression goals are lower will take a lot of time, and how many followers progress themselves automatically, Versus being active time sinks? also travel in this game takes some amount of time. And who knows how often the narrative will simply steal time slots.
I get the feelings things won't end after the 4 months, I'm sure there'll be some big twist after the Tournament for the Throne is over. Considering the "king moon" said he's near-omnipotent in this state, I wonder if we'll have to fight him at some point.

For me what I did for the early game party was. I made Grius a Warrior for his physical stat. I changed my MC to a Mage (as I built up Magic) and when I got enough MAG. I changed Strohl to a Seeker
As I said a few times later on, none of the early party members really lean "mage" so going for a magic build might be worthwhile just so you have a dedicated magic attacker in the starting party. I've just done magic builds a lot recently (DDS) so I wanted to try something different.
@BigKlingy Yeah that's fair. Trust me, on my first demo playthrough. I tried being even and mainly focusing on Endurance for surviving attacks. But I wasn't ultimately happy with my demo playthrough when I found out how I missed something. So the second playthrough is when I decided on the Magic build. I know that you as an experienced Persona player and someone who's well versed with DDS will do well in the Metaphor journey
@TheJaredPunch surprisingly I did pretty well with only one mage for that fight. I just had Grius and MC attack. And because I had Strohl be Seeker so early. He learned Tarukaja. So he healed and buffed my MC for Ice damage
4:08:57 boy are you having a MUCH easier time with this boss fight than I did... I went in with warrior-seeker-mage and almost no SP left. I basically had my one mage doing all the damage while the seeker was forced to guard most of the time (and use tarukaja otherwise) and the warrior was stuck using items constantly. I retried the fight four or so times. I probably should have just let myself die and respec xD but not having SP would still have been an issue...
Tbh I had heard some people had problems with this fight online so I already knew about the row gimmick, but I was lucky I had two Mages. Two or more Mages seems good for this dungeon in general.
4:52:12 As someone whose personal villains did escape justice, I agree with this statement. 4:52:18 Also, unfortunately, historically accurate. Voice acting helps with pronunciation. I only recently learned how "epitome" is pronounced. I've heard the word many times, but never saw it spelled and pronounced at the same time until recently. I thought e-p-i-t-o-m-e was a different world altogether based on the spelling. Epi-tome is how I thought it was supposed to be... 5:34:12 Kind of. 5:35:31 This king must be a fake too. Rewarding his murderer and his son's attempted murderer? I'm not buying it.
I love that the main character is special not because they're the only one that can do the cool thing, but because they can inspire that power in other people. It's a nice change of pace from most hero characters in rpgs and I think it fits in really nicely with the whole becoming a worthy king deal. It feels less like "one above all" and more like "one for all"
@14:24 basically my reaction as well. Still getting used to it 10 hours in @16:23 wow I died at that exact same point as well. Kinda reminds me of the Nocturne tutorial @23:02 I didn't notice that, but yeahhh, strange place for snogging @31:18 again, my reaction exactly, but I guess that's just how a lot of Anime related media work
23:23 i do wonder if we'll see an execution similar to this later in the game. Seems like foreshadowing for later in the story if they're show it this early.
Hey man, I am a fan of yours after watching your persona 3 fes walkthrough and hopefully you notice me. I was wondering if you are going to try this game in full version and make a walkthrough of this with a guide. I enjoy you doing this type of video and curious to know your thoughts about it.
The Archetype Awakenings are very much like P5, but there are some key differences. And not just Archetypes and Personas. The P5 awakenings have their other selves testing the resolve of their real selves to stand against the opposition. The Archetype Awakenings here feels like there is another force that tests the resolve to awaken their archetypes. The woman that’s talking to them clearly is someone we don’t know. And the way that the Resonant Vessels are used for the characters to speak from the heart as they awaken to the Archetype they embody is different from P5 mainly in how it was executed. the fact the people are cheering Strohl on hear. They aren’t real, I personally think they are the spirits of the people who died in Strohl’s original home. Strohl is fighting in their honor because he has his duty to his people. Did Ryuji rally the spirit of dead people? I don’t think so.
I do like the "literally speaking from your heart" element. I just think that, at the absolute bare-bones level, that this Awakening reminded me a LOT of Ryuji standing up to Kamoshida, and I don't want every Atlus RPG to copy P5's Persona Awakenings just because P5 was popular. P5's Awakenings were good because they worked in the context of P5, and I don't want to see that "cheapened". It's a good scene in Metaphor's story, and I have no issues with it in that context. I'm just hoping P5 isn't a trendsetter for "power acquisition cutscenes" because, again, those scenes were very much rooted in P5's core themes.
@@BigKlingy I mean, you have to keep in mind that this game was planned before Persona 5 was announced in the west, it may not change you are perceiving this moment, but I still think it’s worth mentioning in the context of why you are seeing things this way. Again, you might change your mind with Hulkenburg’s awakening.
@@BigKlingy this is kind of thing that I don’t agree with when it comes to similar usage in plot threads, like any trope ever. I don’t see things for the surface level only. It’s a very narrow minded way to look at things. I always look for the depths behind something, anything. And the Awakenings in Persona (be it 5 or the other games) and Metaphor are no exception. Again, this is just the start of the game, I just think you’re being too quick to pass judgement.
about the similarities between this game and fire emblem (and there are a lot), do you think that this game could have been reworked from one of the scrapped ideas from that fire emblem x smt crossover they did a while ago? I once heard that they keept changing and scrapping ideas for the game that ended up being tokyo mirage sessions
Honestly this would've been an amazing way to do SMT x Fire Emblem. (Though mechanically there's also Devil Survivor, a strategy RPG with demon fusion)
@@BigKlingy I know little about Devil Survivor but knowing the Bel Tournament exists, The King's declaration brought that idea to mind. Also the idea for the FE x SMT crossover started out as a Pokémon one according to a Nintendo Dream interview. The idea only lasted a week, but that still brings to mind what Pokémon and FE characters would have been paired up
the fact that they went with esperanto for the names of enemies and for the ost is doubly simbolical, since esperanto was made to be a unified language for the eu, like the king dream to unify all the tribes into one, and like the king dream never come to fruition, esperanto never saw any practical use (altough this second part may just be a huge coincidence)
@@BigKlingy "tenta" and "oppo" don't appear to be actual Esperanto words, but it could be it's still _intended_ to be esperanto. One easy "rule" with Esperanto words is that -o/-oj/-on/-ojn are always nouns and -a/-aj/-an/-ajn are always adjectives.
5:18:49 WARNING, HEAVY CYNICISM: NGL I don't think the NPC dialgoue with the child is that nuanced despite being more nuanced than most works. The idea of a child growing up to be racist because their bullying wasn't kept in check sounds silly to me. I know kids can be mean, but being a bully (especially when it comes to physical characteristics) is something else, and that doesn't come from nowhere. To be fair, however, this is pretty early in the game to judge, and I'm being very cynical (though this city being hilariously racist is not helping with that). 5:37:47 I know nothing about the game, but Grius was giving a lot of death flags. The moment he said he was going to kill Louis early on despite Louis most likely dying late in the game already spells trouble, and the way he was referring to Maria as well. 5:43:39 Ooof, just noticed there are people who are crushed under the rubble. T-rated game moment. This game looks really fun and interesting as someone who hasn't played an Atlus game before. If there is like a Switch 2 port for it I might play it.
5:18:49 Sometimes it DOES start out that way, I feel. Kids not being told their behavior is a problem so they keep doing it, and it keeps escalating. 5:37:47 He was also an old veteran and didn't obviously awaken to an Archetype. 5:43:39 Louis: "I am your saviour!" Also Louis: drops a monster corpse and a bunch of rubble on a crowd of people. Y'know, this might be a good first Atlus game, given it's not tied to any other series.
@BigKlingy 5:18:49 To be more clear on why I think the behavior not being disciplined thing being silly: I see this issue being more of a correlation thing, not causation, so treating it as causation is my problem. However, this is very nitpicky for a few lines of NPC dialogue. 5:43:39 There is also the bandits early on causing trouble that either align with him or work for him (I forgot which). I think what's most appealing of this game right now is just the unique vibes the game is giving at the start. As a JRPG, this game looks like a breath of fresh air IMO, but that could change later on.
45:09 Indeed. Never mind the fact that they started off with less resources and education, and had lower odds of success because of that... 47:21 I give him credit for being fascinated rather than racist. 48:37 If anything, Lorenz in Three Houses had a lot to live up to sharing a name with the Nick Fury-esque character from Shadow Dragon. 49:47 As a fan of the M*A*S*H character Corporal Max Klinger, I am insulted! Klinger in M*A*S*H goes through quite a lot over the show. At one point psychiatrist Sydney Freedman asks him, "Why are you so intent on proving you're crazy? Why do you want to get out of the army so badly?" And Klinger's response actually takes him by surprise! Sydney follows up on that response with, "I hope you do get out of the army someday, Klinger. There will be a battalion of men in housedresses behind you." 56:20 Technically, I think it's more of a lottery for people who aren't the protagonists because it's impossible for everyone's lives to suck simultaneously. 57:06 Poor Luigi... 1:03:00 An enviable job at that. 1:04:23 That sounds about right. 1:05:31 More acceptance and tolerance, then? 1:08:44 Sort of. Vangarre wasn't a braggart, but he was brutal and pigheaded. 1:11:09 Strohl's not very observant--she was in plain sight while they were waiting to get in line. 1:13:39 This is an interesting take on "Humans are the Real Monsters..." 1:17:05 What even was that supposed to be? **Pets a Chao** "Yosh." 1:22:59 Maybe it's just the lighting, but this reminds me of the exterior area of Kamoshida's Tower. 1:25:08 I must see this someday. 1:31:48 The Kron and Zoah? 1:39:46 I'd love a Sonic Adventure Remake... with a original voice cast DLC option. 1:41:11 Lord Gwendal? 1:45:29 DAGAS!!! That's who Louis reminds me of! 1:46:53 Strohl: "I don't mind playing the bad guy sometimes!" 1:52:53 In some games staff-users become that upon promotion. 1:54:21 If you know you can't sleep, you might as well do something productive. 1:56:00 I get the feeling More and Orwell would get along well...
Ngl from what I have seen, This game looks really good. I find a lot of the comparisons to Fire Emblem really funny because of Tokyo Mirrage Sessions as other comments have said, Though part of me remains a bit nervous given a lot of the comparisons to Three Houses that I had seen beforehand.
1:34:37 Also tecnicly Mortal Kombat did have a way to do Fatalities on yourself in I wanna say either Deadly Alliance or Deception called Hara Kiri. The only one I can remember off the top of my head is Sub-Zero freezing himself before then falling over and shattering.
I'm hoping the plot doesn't go in a completely 3H direction, but I will say they're doing a much better job of making me hate the kingdom's society than 3H Part 1 ever did. There's a world of difference when your protagonist is one of the discriminated minority and you're experiencing racism first-hand. This is a really enjoyable game though. The battles are fun and the characters are great so far. I felt vindicated when Hashino said it's supposed to be hard, though.
@@BigKlingy Honestly I have a good feeling its not going to go in the same route as 3H, Or have routes. Partly because given how much the game is pushing Louis as (Pardon my launguage lol) an evil bastard, It would make absolutely no sense to give players the option to just side with him. That and if the game did have routes or an alignment system, It would have been revealed in trailers already. Or at least hinted that your choices might affect the story in some way.
Ok now that I think on it? Louis is totally Lucifer in Helel form. Horns, angelic figure, wanting to dominate the world. He’s a near dead ringer. I went for a hilarious reversal with names in this game. Real world name? A fictional character of mine. Will’s name? Silas. Though now that I think on it? I know plenty of people names Will. I’ll be honest. I did get Dragon Ball before this game. Though by the time I got this game it had just came out. Was mainly wanting to get the game and the Etrian Odyssey DLC costumes and that’s it. Not interested in any of the others as they just don’t fit the setting. Saved be about 25 bucks off my purchase by just waiting for the one. Pretty happy they went for the Untold OST too. Is it me or is the male vocalist the same one who did God Shattering Star? As stated I went for a magic build. Ended up restarting and I’m adding some endurance to my magic level ups. Don’t wanna be the squishy mage. As for how my party is probably gonna plan out so far? I’ll also pick up Healer and juggle both it and Mage, I’m probably gonna have Strohl eventually jump into picking up Seeker after keeping him in Warrior for just a bit for Critical Strike. Depending on how far you got I was gonna make this whole fake bit about how “I’m gonna make Grius into a different class to prevent him from being the Jagan” but you got to that part of the game. But yeah so far having lots of fun so far.
To me SMT x FE is: -Devil Survivor if you're talking gameplay. -This game if you're talking combining SMT gameplay with FE "vibes". -FE Three Houses if you want to combine Fire Emblem with mainline SMT alignment "vibes".
@@BigKlingy Yeah, I meant just how this game feels like a combination of the two from a gameplay perspective. I imagined something like this and not whatever Tokyo Mirage Session ended up being in the end. And of course, there's a lot of P5 mixed in there too. I can already see it from this.
I had no real idea what Metaphor was even about before this but it looks really cool actually.

5:23:17 I remember doing that a lot.
Still getting used to it 10 hours in
@16:23 wow I died at that exact same point as well. Kinda reminds me of the Nocturne tutorial
@23:02 I didn't notice that, but yeahhh, strange place for snogging
@31:18 again, my reaction exactly, but I guess that's just how a lot of Anime related media work
23:23 i do wonder if we'll see an execution similar to this later in the game.
@@BigKlingy I still disagree.
56:37 i mean pokemon isnt that bad if your not a protagonist (assuming you get the base durability of a resident)
And you catch yourself something good. As far as fictional universes to end up in, there'd be far worse.
@@BigKlingy and that's assuming you don't just take an office job in any of the many major cities
@@ianjordan8964 Well... you'd still have to watch out for evil team attacks.
about the similarities between this game and fire emblem (and there are a lot), do you think that this game could have been reworked from one of the scrapped ideas from that fire emblem x smt crossover they did a while ago? I once heard that they keept changing and scrapping ideas for the game that ended up being tokyo mirage sessions
Honestly this would've been an amazing way to do SMT x Fire Emblem. (Though mechanically there's also Devil Survivor, a strategy RPG with demon fusion)
@@BigKlingy
I know little about Devil Survivor but knowing the Bel Tournament exists, The King's declaration brought that idea to mind. Also the idea for the FE x SMT crossover started out as a Pokémon one according to a Nintendo Dream interview. The idea only lasted a week, but that still brings to mind what Pokémon and FE characters would have been paired up
@@BigKlingyI will never forgive TMS for killing my hopes for a new Devil Survivor.
To be fair, Grius does look like Vandham.
The teeth things actually ARE called Homo Tenta! So I was reflexively saving it right all along.
the fact that they went with esperanto for the names of enemies and for the ost is doubly simbolical, since esperanto was made to be a unified language for the eu, like the king dream to unify all the tribes into one, and like the king dream never come to fruition, esperanto never saw any practical use (altough this second part may just be a huge coincidence)
@@christianvacchelli1953 Didn't know the enemy names were also in Esperanto. That makes a lot of sense.
5:18:49 WARNING, HEAVY CYNICISM:
NGL I don't think the NPC dialgoue with the child is that nuanced despite being more nuanced than most works.
F
5:18:49 Sometimes it DOES start out that way, I feel. Kids not being told their behavior is a problem so they keep doing it, and it keeps escalating.
5:37:47 He was also an old veteran and didn't obviously awaken to an Archetype.
5:43:39
Louis: "I am your saviour!"
Also Louis: drops a monster corpse and a bunch of rubble on a crowd of people.
No, this looks to be Maria's VA first role that isn't a mobile gacha game
Yeah I've since found out she's not Carina Reeves. If she's relatively new then she did a really good job here.
There will be a battalion of men in housedresses behind you."
56:20 Technically, I think it's more of a lottery for people who aren't the protagonists because it's impossible for everyone's lives to suck simultaneously.
1:13:39 This is an interesting take on "Humans are the Real Monsters..."
1:17:05 What even was that supposed to be? **Pets a Chao** "Yosh."
1:22:59 Maybe it's just the lighting, but this reminds me of the exterior area of Kamoshida's Tower.
1:46:53 Strohl: "I don't mind playing the bad guy sometimes!"
1:52:53 In some games staff-users become that upon promotion.
Hi my name is More. Have you met my younger brother Less? Or even better my nephew None.
This game is literally SMT X Fire Emblem lol
To me SMT x FE is:
-Devil Survivor if you're talking gameplay.
-This game if you're talking combining SMT gameplay with FE "vibes".
-FE Three Houses if you want to combine Fire Emblem with mainline SMT alignment "vibes".
@@FieryAnubis considering Joker is in Smash Bros with various Persona characters, Fire Emblem and Persona do seem to have a history.
@@BigKlingy Yeah, I meant just how this game feels like a combination of the two from a gameplay perspective. I imagined something like this and not whatever Tokyo Mirage Session ended up being in the end. And of course, there's a lot of P5 mixed in there too. I can already see it from this.
