SWEDISH VS DANISH - Language challenge in Copenhagen

- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2019
- Language challenge between a Swedish guy and a Danish girl. I'm trying to speak Danish and she's trying to speak Swedish. The languages are sometimes very similar and sometimes very different. We filmed this in central wonderful Copenhagen. We had so much fun. This is our third language challenge video together, always with many laughs.

I started trying to learn Danish but the pronunciation was crazy so I started learning Swedish instead. This channel is great. Kristina is hilarious, so it Martin, it's a fantastic combo.
We're a great team, even when we use the soup container for a tripod ;)
lustig same haha
You could’ve gone with Norwegian. It’s the end between language of Swedish and Danish
Jeg tænke dansk er ikke virkelig vanskelig. Jeg er stadig læring, men meget af det kommer naturligt til mig.
Episodes with Kristina are the best
Agreed!
When she "overdoes" it, that's because that's how Swedish sounds to us Danes. Like it's *very* up and down in tone compared to what we're used to in the very flat Danish language.
It's hard for us to imitate Swedish without making it sound sort of "mocking", and I suppose the same is the case for Swedes wanting to try to pronounce things in Danish. I think it's because the languages are so similar that it sounds (to ourselves) like we're basically just speaking a silly version of our own languages.
If Danes or Swedes were asked to pronounce something in Croatian, Portuguese or whatever we'd have no idea if it sounded funny, weird, exaggerated or whatever as the languages are so far from our own. We'd just give it a go and hope for the best.
But because our two languages are so similar it basically just sounds (to ourselves) like we're making fun of the other person. We notice the smaller differences between the languages and then exaggerate them to make it sound Danish/Swedish. Like a Swede might "overdo" the "Soft D" (like in Røde etc) because that's a difference that really stands out to Swedes. Danes might "overdo" the Swedish "melody" or "singing" rhythm because that really stands out to us, another thing could be Swedish sounds like the Swedish "K" in Kärlek, the Swedish "SK" sound in Skägg etc. as they're sounds we simply do not have. So it'd likely sound like we were "overdoing" those sounds or like we were trying to make fun of the Swedish language. :P
I’m learning Norwegian but another person said that the Danish language is actually not flat they do sing just not in the way Norwegians and Swedes do
Christina has the best laugh on the planet. ❤ You both made me smile!
Kristina is so adorable! I just can't take my eyes off her :D
She is so lovely 😍
"Soup, not soup!" lollll
Her laugh at 4:03 omg I love her. This is sooo cute 🥺😂

I am neither Danish, nor Swedish but a French who started learning Swedish a few days ago (and who plans on learning Danish too in a year or too, if I actually manage to learn Swedish) but I still very much enjoyed this video and laughed a lot so "tack so mycket and meget tak!"
Mange tak* meget tak is like saying very thank you
I understand both 😁 I am Norwegian.
Which language do you understand the most?
@@CaptainH. I think that would be Danish. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but Danes and Norwegians can converse with each other in their own languages without any issue, these languages are the closest. Swedes and Norwegians can understand each other as well, to a slightly lesser extent but still enough to have intelligible conversations. Swedes and Danes not so much. Danes probably understand more Swedish than Swedes do Danish. But this guy speaks Scanian, a dialect of Swedish that is almost a mix of both Danish and Swedish (Scania was part of Denmark in history), they can understand each other somewhat.
please keep going with these videos and make videos about the three languages Swedish, Norwegian and Danish.
I love Cristina so much she is so adorable. You two make the best combo
As a Norwegian / Swede or Dane you can always understand the other country’s language if it’s in writing.
Very true.
Mundtlig norsk er ingen problem for dem, som kan dansk. Mundtlig svensk kræver ... lidt erfaring.
That is not always true. There are some words in Danish and Norweigan which there is not even the sligthest of chances I as a Swede will understand. Because those words are not even remotely close to the Swedish language ^^.. And that comes from somebody who lives very close to Denmark.
God she is so funny.. Though it doesn't make the language easier.. But please more videos with her 😁
As long as she's have me.
I really love you guys, and both languages 😍 good video!
The way she laughs 🥺♥️
Jag dööör 😂 Det är alltid jätteroligt med Kristina 😆
Awww they are so cute together hahah
Seems to me you more than just like eachother. Nice to see! As a Dutch always funny to hear you speak and not make too much of it at first. Nevertheless: yesterday I was looking at Norwegian commentary on icespeedskating (old Olympic games, we always have a battle with them so nice to hear their side) for hours and I understood virtually everything. It takes a bit getting used to but then I am fine. Danish written is very similar to Norwegian, may be even easier but spoken it takes more getting used to. Well: much more. Swedish is easier to understand spoken but jut a tad less so when written (but still pretty easy). Without any lessons there are just four languages I could read and understand right away: DK, S, N and D. German is may be closest, but difficult to assess since it is mandatory at the higher education levels for years here in NL. I have to say that there seem to be far more words in German that are completely off when compared to Scandi languages but again I am no longer objective due to longtime prior exposure.
There are def. obvious similarities from southern Swedish and Danish to Dutch, and Norwegian tags along nicely. Languages and the way we speak travel, and yes, once you start exposing yourself to a language, the pieces of the puzzle slowly fall in place. And Icespeedskating commentary is not exactly like table tennis, so it's a good place to start :)
Hi, thanks for your reply! Yes similar. Icesspedskating, tabletennis..icehockey...I have seen Swedish documentaries on Jan Ove Waldner and the Soviet Ice hockey team. Fantastic, another perspectie although Waldner and Soviet icehockey were highly regarded in NL too. But still, the Swedish documentaries were excellent so really worthwhile to invest some time in the language in order to understand it. Thx again and looking forward to your next video.
It would be cool to make a challenge in London reading old english poems to british people and trying to understand similarities with swedish language. Considering Britain, Denmark, Norway and Sweden were part of the same realm.
Danish... why are you so hard to pronounce sometimes ? I really want to learn it 😂
You look like Micke from Micke & Veronica
@@christianbjrnskov3642 og det er den bare

2:50 guy just won big time
DER ER SÅ BRA! Vi trenger Mer!
You guys so should try to do a conversation in your languages. It’s so weird when I noticed a lot of words that are similar to English.
That's a good idea.
TheSwedishLad Right hope you guys are able to do that👌
Soup container? Hahaha
Den danska ekorren är tillbaka 😂😂😘 Härligt att ser henne igen 😉
Dumpster is American, in the UK it's called a skip.
Swedes are pretty americanized, especially that generation.
Das war sehr lustig. Es gefällt mir sehr. 🙂

When Kristina speaks Swedish , she suddenly becomes a Swedish Lady with her attitude 🤷♂️😀🧐
I see someone knows their German suspiciously well. :)
Next time you come Australia you have to come Adelaide. :D
Would be nice to see something other than the stretch Noosa-Sydney.
@@TheSwedishLad If you do come, I'd be happy to show you some sights. :) I

Or the opposite. His Swedish accent is Danish like.
keptins skånska is generally harder for danes to understand than rikssvenska
@@christopherakesson4703 Just like Thy dialekt in Vendsyssel or definitely Soennerjysk south of Aabenraa.

Ge henne en chans på rikssvenska. Sop heter sop... inte soup...

Hello Joppe
Hes speaking with skåne accent for gods sakes.
Dansk er efter min mening langt mere interessant end Svensk.
Give me danish any day of the week
Swedish: Before a drink
Danish: After a drink
I feel like there had sexual tension....
Let her speak German , she is cute
Danska är fan skumt, ni har en massa "j-ljud" det heter Boken inte Bjoken. det heter sopor inte scjopor.
So, where’s the potato in the Danish mouth that people are saying?
The pun at 3:37 lol
