    I can certainly understand the "emotional roller coaster" on these special trips, been there many times. What a great feeling it is throughout, especially when you know your going i the right direction.

    As a romanian riding most of the time mountain trails, I can't imagine being out in the desert riding on scorching hot weather with long finger gloves and the hood on. Painful to watch but the whole emotion that you offered to the viewers made up for that pain. Glad to have attended the party!

    • @cjohnson3836
      @cjohnson3836 3 года назад

      It might seem counter-intuitive but long sleeves of a light, thin, moisture wicking material keeps you cool in the desert. Better if its also UV protective. Getting baked by the desert sun is no fun.

    Steve! thank you for the invite, the water drop, the friendship, showing us how to get out on our bikes and all the hard work it takes to put these gems of videos together. I got bit by the bikepacking bug watching you and Tess so being able to do this trip was surreal on so many levels. The image of the Milky Way that night is still seared clearly in my brain ... right next to the memory of being serenaded by the bullfrog

    A few more things.
    1) We use hooded sun shirts to protect from the sun. I'll be doing a dedicated video on these, but in the mean time, here's a link to the shirt: bit.ly/38NdU1x
    2 In my next video i'll go through some of the gear I used on this trip.
    3) Here's a list of the most-used gear I take on most bikepacking trips:
    Quilt/Sleeping bag - bit.ly/3gLb6on
    Sleeping Pad - bit.ly/322NpUx
    Tent (when I use a tent)- bit.ly/2AS5qtw
    Tailwind electrolyte drink mix - bit.ly/38LVQVq
    Bike Frame Bags - bit.ly/327OWsw
    Ultralight puffy jacket - bit.ly/2Oe4wuj
    4) I realize I didn't quite quote Robert Frost's poem perfectly, but you get the gist.

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  4 года назад

      @@ocmtb9533 they're raiser to take the wheels off and on, but it's less stiff and I've seen the wheels slip out of the dropouts during hard pedalling. For a beginner who's never going to upgrade, it's fine, but if you're spending that much on a bike, I'd look for something with a 12mm thru axle.

    What do you think of it the Looney Bin bottle cage? What WTB seat is that? I am in the California desert & my last mtb ride I saw at least 4 snakes, 3 of the rattle and one which may have been some kids pets as it was a vibrant green, which I don't think is native to this part of the US. I like my plus bike, but your video has me thinking about trading my gavel/bike packing bike(with 29x2.2 tire setup) for a Salsa Fargo with a 100mm sus fork & 29x2.6 wheels. I prefer drop bars for bike packing personally, but thinking about trying the Jones bar or the Velo Orange Crazy bar on my Karate Monkey type bike. Have you tried or looked into those?
