My opinion is that F1 was at their top by 1998-2007/2008, its not that fast anymore, the excitement appear in the mid runners and fighting for third, a change is needed.
I think you are 100% correct. I was talking to a pal not long ago who also grew up watching from the mid 80s and both of us thought the 97 to 08 era was the one we remember the fondest.
"where ever i'm sitting my sense of humour is always the same" "more or less what you're trying to do................but they were more successful" give him his dues, he's a hundred and ninety but you're not getting one over on him!
not really an interview. one word answers...deliberately obtuse. Skip ahead to any point in the interview randomly.....it's the interviewer speaking 9/10
It´s interesting you are all missing the point. This interview is in 2008 and Bernie talks about breading "new characters"! And weirdly enough he "PREDICTS" that Sebastian Vettel is "super kid, HE´S GOING TO BE A CHARACTER". Can´t you see it?! In 2008 Bernie was "grooming" this kid to be the next "Michael" !! That is why I hate Vettel being champ! He was picked LOOONG AGO to be a "character". THIS GOES TO ALL THE NEW FANBOYS THAT COMPARE VETTEL TO SENNA! Senna was real, vettel is MADE!!
I know I´m gonna get flamed for this but IT´S TRUE. The man himself said he was going to be a character! And why you ask? He said it himself, because GERMANY is important for Formula 1 and why? Because of Michael. Germany has the MOST viewers in F1 and THAT is where the money is,in the TV viewers not the people that go to the track. It´s a buisness and as long as Bernie gets his viewers, he´s a happy man! I just wish fanboys could understand this! Alonso and Hamilton are way better than Vettel.
For a man who famously allows idiotic utterances to escape his lips, he speaks so guardedly - like a criminal suspect under interrogation and wishing to offer only the minimal response to any question. What's he's built deserves a great amount of respect, but solely on the evidence on this interview, Bernie seems a very shady customer.
@david181993 So many people follow it because die-hard motorsport fans are the sort of people who watch regardless of internal politics. Bernie has done good for the sport in the sense of securing good sponsorship and media coverage deals. However, he needs stop using F1 to line his own pockets; ticket prices are absolutely extortionate and he doesn't care if classic venues drop off the calander, just as long as his £££s are rolling in,
That days was not the real formula 1. The sport was destroyed. Too much aerodynamics, semi gearbox, Kers and many different settings during the race that so that the driver can not concentrate on driving the race. To the wheels discussion again. Save sprit and to pay driver. displace the real talent. But the fans are not longer accept mr Ecclestone and they throw the traditional race tracks from the calendar. The man has yet dementia belongs no longer go there.
dude, he's trying to say neutral. he's not taking any side. he's a smart businessman with his one or two-worded responses. maybe he's trying to not to make something more sensational as it already was on this matter. he's smart; ugly (but his beautiful wife and daughters make up for that), too, but, first and foremost, a saavy businessman even in this interview.
@monsterwins To be expected really, i mean, interviewing the head of a sport that has just been exposed as having teams/individuals cheat in very dangerous ways? He's hardly gonna invite the interviewer over for team and biscuits is he?
Loathsome 'facetious' dissembler. His sense of humour is about as amusing as necrotising fasciitis.Hmm.. 82 years on this planet.. Isn't it about time he left it? Outside his daughters no-one would miss him.I really believe he thinks he can take all his lucre with him over to the other side. He will leave a lasting legacy and a massive vote of thanks from a grateful adoring public when he finally shuffles off this mortal coil to match Robert Maxwell's fond send-off.
just watched it for a 2nd time and i think the interviewer is more weird than bernie. youve been in a racing car... i havent.... mmm sure nobody was there... but there are records... probably... we're sitting the heart of berlin, a place where awful things were ordered.... awful
Judging by the way he conducts himself in this interview, I bet Ecclestone is a magnificent negotiator
His negotiating skills are notorious.
just ask eddie jordan
After the 2021 F1 season. I like watching vids on Bernie to better understand this genius.
By a clear mile one of the great personalities the world has ever seen.
Admire how Bernie got thru the interview. U either like him or hate him
Ecclestone starting to lose it? Not from this interview, no. Very cagey and very clever, and doesn't fall for the interviewer's oily questions.
Bernie is infinitely smarter than the reporter. I love his economy of speech. The reporter not only looked scared but was made to look like a buffoon.

i admire bernie, but he scares the hell out of me. the stare he gives at 5:32 makes me want to run away into a corner and cry!

Bernie absolutely owned this guy. Had him on puppet strings after half way.
god i hate it when the reporter says "sure" in a patronizing way

Bernie gets alot of flak from people but I respect him. He has balls, and that's something most people don't have these days.
Its amazing the number of old women you see when you're out n about who look alot like Bernie Ecclestone
This guy should have been a lawyer because he gives nothing away but still get his point across.

The phantom of the opera is here!
Agreed. There are dozens of Mr/Ms/Mrs Burns' out there
The word "stonewall" comes to mind watching this so-called "interview"...

Bernie says; Think before you bribe.
Eccelstone is the real life Mr Burns..
I admire Bernie. His daughters are beautiful too.

This is pretty weird interview! Bernie starting to lose it?
Look at all these sad F1 elitists in the comments...........@_@

Interviewer is an amatuer.

@david181993 "he made f1 what it is today".
You're not exactly helping his case.
This guy interviewing him is the most annoying man i,ve ever come across. He reminds me of a comedy news sketch called The Day Today.
He looks younger than in the tabloid papers....hm....interesting....
I think Eccelstone is psychopathic...his affect is very flat. He does not laugh or smile often.
@monsterwins To be expected really, i mean, interviewing the head of a sport that has just been exposed as having teams/individuals cheat in very dangerous ways? He's hardly gonna invite the interviewer over for team and biscuits is he?
This interviewer thinks he's tough, he's nothing compared to Bernie

Stone cold killer

This is an awful interview and the interviewer is terrible.
