  • The Liberal government's proposed firearms legislation which would add a new list of long guns to be banned is receiving widespread pushback. Marco Mendicino, minister of public safety, says the intent is to not go after law-abiding hunters while the opposition Raquel Dancho, Conservative public safety critic, says the Liberals are not being clear with Canadians on what guns will be banned.

This is an election issue for me. We have some of the most responsible gun laws in the world. Legal owners, such as myself, have gone through proper safety training and have to maintain our licenses in good standing. I joined the CCFR last week. I encourage all Canadian firearm owners to do the same. This Government overreach is insane. Licensed firearm owners are not the problem in Canada. Urban gang related gun crime with illegal weapons account for the vast majority of gun related deaths. I'd ask the Liberals to show us the data on how many gun related deaths were committed by licensed, registered firearm owners, versus "gang bangers".

It's the same here in The US. I lived in Chicago for most of my life. Huge city that's been historically Democrat controlled. Yet the crime has always been high. From the days of Al Capone and the mafia wars, right on through until now. It's not us legal gun owners out there doing drive bys, and shooting up a city block-its the street gangs, the cartels, and the mafia.
And because that city accounts for most of the states population, they enact gun laws that only hurt the rural farmers, the suburban hunters, retired collectors, and honest, law abiding gun owners.

The bigger issue is the bill would basically ban any semi automatic rifle that can take a removable magazine, which is almost other semi-auto rifles. A LOT of hunters use those.

Aka criminal element. This is one of like 100 reasons this is poorly thought through and terribly executed.
It is government overreach, doesn't address issues that will actually reduce violent crime, and will actually put firearms into the hands of violent criminals, at a discount, I might add. I think the average person might read the headlines and think this shows the government is 'doing something', but I challenge them to learn more about this whole thing then make their mind up.

@@nuxkamina I think the point is that the many layers of filters applied to being granted a license to own/use guns (legally) mean that people who are willing to go through that process and have a daily criminal record check, have a significantly lower likelihood of committing crimes, especially violent crimes. (based on the evidence). Conversely those who choose crime and violent crime, in particular, are already willing to act against rules, laws, etc. and typically don't bother with licenses and daily scrutiny.
That doesn't mean that everyone follows this pattern, but the evidence is overwhelming. It also doesn't mean that if a criminal acquired a gun license they wouldn't commit a crime. We are talking correlations not causation. The propensity to commit crime and violent crime and interventions to reduce the likelihood are well studied, but rarely supported effectively.

I appreciate you speaking up for hunters and against this bill that is targeted at hunters and sport shooters, who, I'd like to remind you, get an ongoing criminal record check EVERY SINGLE DAY as a condition of their PAL.
Furthermore, Semi-auto hunting rifles have a legitimate place in use in our country. These amendments are proposing to ban basically all semi-auto hunting rifles. While claiming they have no legitimate use. I would not be alive if not for one.
A while back I had a grizzly encounter some 150-200km from a paved road while hiking and scouting for the fall season. I had stopped on a sandbar along a river. A beaver slapped its tail in the river, and a Grizzly heard that and came looking for its dinner, and found me.
It was some 40' away upstream on the bank, and I was on a sand bar with a little stream between us and the river at my back. I yelled and made noise to try to dissuade it from approaching me and scare it off, letting it know it was a person there and not the beaver it was looking for.
It came closer to me, to the point where it was some 20' from me, across the little stream up on the river bank some 6' up the bank. If it was going to bluff charge me, I'd be stuck on a small sandbar with it. It was snarling and huffing at me from the river bank and its high ground. It was so close that had I shot it- it would likely still have gotten me before it died. Had I a bolt action, I would not have a hope in hell of being able to get a second shot off.
Having a semi-auto, and it not being dissuaded from my yelling... I discharged a shot into the bank and that scared it off. If I hadn't had a semi, I could not have risked discharging a warning shot, would have had to dispatch the Grizzly, and would have likely died with him due to the close proximity.
So yes- Semi-auto rifles save lives. They have a legitimate purpose in hunting and defense against wildlife. And allow for humane follow-up if needed. And I'm here because I decided to carry one instead of another firearm. And during hunting season, it’s not uncommon for a bear, grizzly or otherwise, to move towards the sound of a gunshot as they are conditioned that it means there are likely the remains of processed game in the area. So having something quicker while dressing an animal is highly recommended.
But hunting aside. And to the original focus of C-21 that you were alluding: Just how will taking property away from people who get DAILY criminal record checks reduce the gang violence and smuggled American handguns in our cities?

So let me get this straight... We have a list of hunting and sports rifles on a proposed banned list... The only people who have these guns are licensed, vetted gun owners. Therefore, does that mean that all licensed, vetted gun owners are gang members shooting up the town like the cartoon character Yosemite Sam?
They talk about taking guns off the street, yet they ban guns that are locked away in a safe or vault. Just because a certain gun was used in a gun crime doesn't mean banning it solves the issue of it happening again. As if any criminal is going to hand in a banned gun if the government bans it 😆 🤣
If the government wants to make an impact on gun violence, then spend the billions needed to buy back hunting rifles, shotguns etc from licensed individuals and put it towards container scanners at border crossing to stem illegal guns from crossing into Canada. Currently 1 container in 100 is checked.
And just to finish. I'm not a gun owner nor licensed to have one. Not interested in guns one way or another. It's just obvious to see that this is a political move to gain votes from Canadians who are either misinformed or lack the knowledge as a whole.

Promo code "Poly" did not stand for ecole polytechnique. It was in reference to polysesouvient (Anti Gun Group). The CCFR has come out with the following statement:
"Concerning the discount code controversy: Our promocode was in no way a reference to the tragedy at Ecole Polytechnique. It was a two-week-old response to a Twitter account criticizing us for fundraising. Any suggestion to the contrary is blatantly false."
The media has spun this one and politicians are utilizing it to their advantage.

    • @jimbo4460

I have the opposite opinion, respectfully. The only people who will listen to what they have to say and believe it are CCFR members and gun owners, that is it. Of which I was one(CCFR member), until this transpired. There is no way that you can possibly spin this as a positive in explaining our stance to the anti-gun community. It was an ill thought out move that does more damage than good. Unless your intention was to rile up your members and seek new membership to continue the grift.
Interesting how the CCFR calls out the Liberals for their lack of transparency and how the MSM is in their back pocket. At the same time the CCFR never showed Raquel Dancho calling their(the CCFR) actions as reprehensible in their clip of her removal from the HOC. Nor do they allow negative comments on the chief grifter Rod Giltaca's video trying to explain his motives for this. Oh they allow the odd well written one in there, but that is it.
I can't be the only firearm owner that sees this as what it is.

@@jimbo4460 Howdy! There was no spinning. You can find the exact tweet which the point of contention. . In it, you can see the reply is to polysesouvient. The picture speaks for itself. I'd even send it to you if youtube would allow reply attachments but sadly it doesn't. It was first posted to polysesouvient after they posted their tweet that reads " #CCFR doing what #CCFR does best." (Date: Nov 20th). You are free to believe what you wish but when you look into this, the narrative that it was tied to ecole polytechnique falls apart quickly. The promo itself ran for 3 days and was weeks ago. it was not in the days before the anniversary of that terrible tragedy as the media seems to be portraying it. . Marco Mendacino announced this promo 1 day before the anniversary (although it was expired for weeks at that point) he knew that he would be able to use it to deflect off some of the heat he is getting placed on his colleagues and him from the Bill C21 disaster.
      Cheers,

The Enfield P58 rifled musket was the service rifle of the British army. Does that mean it is a weapon of war? Say what you will about Australia, a local state MP called a rifle a weapon on a live TV interview. The state police superintendent cut him off (politely) and stated that no firearm is to be considered a weapon until it is used as such, in accordance with state law on weapons, which defines anything used to harm another as a weapon only if used as such.

I am a fourth-generation hunter/target shooter and the weapons I own have been grandfathered to me. I understand that there are gun issues in some areas, but to remove all handguns and a large part of semiautomatic rifles is unacceptable to me. I own a semiautomatic hunting rifle we have had in our family for decades, it was never designed for war, it's a hunting rifle and I'm more then sure it's going to make there prohibited weapon's list.
