    Great video! Not sure if I've seen anyone else on YT show the air cooled welding technique. I never thought about the actual physics of why thin metal warps which was interesting. I would like to have seen a demo of "hammer welding" tack welds while they're still hot to flatten them.

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Год назад

      Thanks Vince! Yeah the heat is what warps everything up so minimizing the heat, minimizes the warp. I was thinking I might do a hammer welding video with gas welding but MIG would work too. Thanks for the idea and welcome to the channel! Cheers!

    Fantastic video! I rarely leave a comment but this is going to come in so handy for my E30 restoration! Quick question, is there any benefit in doing the flange/spot weld technique along with running a tack, pause and move technique along the flange join?
    So a combination of method 2 and 3 from the video? I hope this makes sense

      Thanks! Glad I could help you out and you're enjoying the content. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. You won't gain much for fully welding the seam as well as the plug holes, unless your vehicle has major horsepower and your twisting panels. You're going to seam seal those seams after to keep it water tight so there's no need to weld it water tight. Thanks for the watch!

    On the spot weld and flange technique how would you hold down say a replacement floor pan panel? Would you apply light pressure by hand?

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Год назад

      Yeah that works. You could add heavy weights, temporary screw, magnets, or a clamp through a hole if it's there. Just make sure the 2 pieces are tight before you plug weld. Cheers!

    Chill blocks?

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Год назад

      Yup, you can use them. On thin sheet metal, you'll still need some technique or it'll blow through and chill on back side.

    can I use my century 90 flux cord machine on 18GA sheet metal?

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  2 года назад +1

      Technically...yes. I'm not a real fan of flux core as it never looks as nice plus you have slag to chip off. Same rules apply as it is easy to blow through and tougher to seal holes with porosity. Thanks for the watch!
