Hi Matteo, I have a suggestion for you. I noticed that my TRX-6 struggles to climb over some small obstacles with only the front differential locked, whereas my TRX-4 can easily climb over the same small obstacles. I determined this is because the rear of the TRX-6 has nearly the same weight as the rear of the TRX-4, but that weight is supported by 4 tires instead of 2, which prevents the 4 rear tires on the TRX-6 from "digging in" to get enough grip, and the rear tires slip more easily. I want my TRX-6 to have the same performance as my TRX-4 without requiring all of the differentials to be locked, so I disassembled the middle differential, washed all the components, filled the middle differential with Tamiya Anti-Wear Grease (very thick and sticky), and reinstalled the middle differential. Now the middle differential has a strong "limited slip" action, which enables my TRX-6 to drive the same as my TRX-4 without requiring me to keep the TRX-6's differentials locked all the time.
Fantastic video Matteo. What a bit of kit that is. Great tips about the sticky stuff for the body detail. That motor looks huge! I'm impressed with the ESC app. Love the Tamiya driver guy with the silver hair! All in all a top RC video and suitably nerdy for us RC geeks !

The same thing happened to me with the 1200kv HW that I installed on the TRX4 ... Reverse direction 😟 .... God bless Bluetooth! 😁 Good video Matteo👍... And stop show this car!! 🙈
It is to be expected. The TRX-4 has an extra set of gears thanks to the portal axles, which reverses the direction of the wheels' rotation. So to drive forwards the motor needs to rotate in the opposite direction than normal.
Hallo Matteo.
How does the fan handle driving through water? I just got the same brushless system for mine and I'm wondering if I should remove the fan or not for wet adventures.
Very nice modifications! Bluetooth and smartphone tech to program the motor and esc? I’ve been out of the loop for a little bit as that’s new to me. Very cool!
As I understand, the use of smartphones and Bluetooth was originally a way to install firmware updates without requiring users to buy special hardware to connect their ESCs and radio receivers to their computers. However, it also turned out to be a convenient way to configure ESC settings.
avipatable It is supposed to increase runtime by about 30%. BUT, the system is so dang fun & fast, you’ll find yourself hammering the throttle more than usual!!! So I’m unsure myself and I have the same system LOL.
Hello Mateo! i have a question, I just ordered the same motor combo for my trx6. Where do you plug the esc fan? I am looking at your video and i can not trace the wires to see where you plugged your fan. Is it possible to just plug in directly to the LED lighting module? Thank you Edit: i just realized you already addressed that in the video using a servo extension cable lol. Did you use a Y cable? or did you just plug it in channel 1 with the single red wire? What is the channel 1 single red wire for anyways? lol
@@Matteomeier it is for the module to know when the esc and receiver are on, if it is on, the lights turn on, if its off the lights are off too, I noticed cause if you plug it directly onto the battery the light dont turn on, only when the receiver is on. Hi, I have tried to follow the video to install the hobbywing axe 550 motor/ESC combo to my new TRX-6. However, I have a hard time to calibrate the esc to the existing traxxas receiver. Red light is flashing on esc all time during calibration even I pressed the set button. Any idea?
I got the same color. :) I am also considering the XeRun Axe motor system, but if I get that motor I will probably get the 540 version, because even the 540 version is much more powerful than any brushed motor. However, I really like brushed motors for some strange reason, so I am also considering a Holmes Hobbies CrawlMaster Pro motor. It has a 5-pole armature instead of the normal 3-pole design, so it should run better at low speeds instead of overheating at low speeds as a 3-pole brushed motor might do. Also, you should get the Traxxas overdrive gear for the front differential. It will improve the turning radius on such a long truck.
Thanks Shawn for all your good comments! Yes, brushed motors have also advantages. I have in one crawler also the Crawlmaster Pro. But in my opinion one disatvantage is they need more maintenance. After wet, muddy runs often the brushes are sticked and the motor have to be disasembled and well cleaned.
@@Matteomeier: Mud and saltwater are certainly a problem for brushed motors, but I haven't had any problems with clean water. I use Boca Yellow Seal bearings in my motors, so the bearings won't rust, and I use Reedy Plutonium brushes in motors that sometimes get wet. They are very hard brushes and they last a long time. But yes, brushless motors are definitely easier and lower maintenance. 😊 I still recommend installing Boca Yellow Seal bearings in brushless motors, though. They last much longer than plain steel bearings.
@@Matteomeier: Boca Yellow Seal bearings are stainless steel bearings with ceramic balls. If you can't get Boca bearings in Europe, there should be other brands available. Acer is another brand.
