i found an Orion 2 channel amp 75watts rms into 4 ohms in a salavage car yard. it was heavily rusted, oxidized and alot of brittle resistors. i cleaned up the board. changed the two leds. replac caps. resistors and thats it. the FETS were in great shape. i chk voltages and when i did a load test wow it was ALIVE. however i did not have the chance of installingniny car because after 2 wks my car was a right off and i sold the amp. it just shows you nothing is dead unless you try and try again. great job man.
i rescued a 1986 fosgate from a scrayyard. heavily rusted, dented, a complete mess. repla all caps, fets, coils and put the amp on a brand new heat sink chassis. punch 45 ! works great
I had a 275x back in the day powering three jl w0 12s at 2.66ohms. Nobody believed that was the only amp in my car. It was back breaking. My buddy even ran it with his three MTX 15s 3000s. Yes, three fifteens on 75 watts, his roof used to jump on his bronco. Can't tell you how many times we got pulled over.
Hi Mr kev, I have 2 channel stereo power amplifier the problem is only one channel is good but the other channel is dead but the power transistor are good, i need your advice, what shall I do? Thanks & God bless.
I toke my amp to the shop and they bench test it good then they installed it and told me it was bad that was years ago I still have it it looks brand new and it bench tested a couple days ago it powers on but goes right to protect mod it’s a keenwood ps500 can you recommend a repair shop and thanks for the videos there great
Agreed, but reliability is still going to suffer. I've dealt with two way radios that had water damage, and sometimes we would be able to get them to work, but they eventually all failed. It just wasn't worth it terms of safety and performance loss.
+Artcurus. With this, if it breaks again, I will fix it. Its part of the fun and the love for the hobby of electronics. I have almost every part for this amplifier in stock to rebuild this so I'm not too worried about it failing. Two-way radios have oscillators and precision adjustment that can be thrown off with the slightest amount of corrosion. This isn't that technical to keep going.
Hi, what flux do you use? I use Rosin RA and that works great but looks to me more nasty than yours. Also, what leads/probes do you use on the multimeter? They look nice thin... great job on your channel. Will wtach from now on. I am into synth repair but I am sure I can benefit from your channel. Cheers
hopefully i can still get some help here...ok so two 30A fuses on the amplifier blows immediately after i reconnect ground cable to the battery... long story short i grabbed multimeter and started checking voltage ,continuity etc. and heres my problem/lack of knowledge/question... is there suppose to be continuity between power and ground terminals on the amplifier?? the amp is not hooked up to anything not to a battery or any wiring... im simply probing power terminal and ground terminal and multimeter beebs. PLEASE HELP
If the amplifier is blowing fuses and you are getting continuity on the power terminal than I would say yea that's a problem. You could get some odd readings regardless when probing the power terminals because of internal circuity but a dead short is bad. You most likely have shorted power supply mosfets. You would need to open the amp and find the short. You will probably find blown up component(s)
wow I would have trashed that amp by the looks of it to start, just proves stuff can still work in that condition. thanks, next time I'll throw some effort into something in that state.
Hi Kev, just wanted to let you know that I just found your channel and think it's great! I've been working on old tube amps for years and years but I dream of having a rig like you do and understand more advanced electronics like you do. I learned a bunch just watching this one video and wanted to say thank you! Quick question, did you do any videos on the stereo microscope and where you might have gotten it? My eyes are starting to go, I'm 56, and I'd love to have some soldering assistance like that. :-)
Thanks. I did do a video on the scope I use. Its not a real great video, but it explains all the parts used and some images I got from it. All the scope parts are in the description of the video. ruclips.net/video/FTrVJX0byzQ/видео.html
Thank you a ton for your help, I thought I had gone thru all of them but I hadn't found this one. I did find one where you changed a camera but this is what I was looking for. I'm going to get set up some time pretty quickly now that I've seen your setup. Thanks again, and thanks for some amazing and informative videos! B.
Hello! Nice video! I have the exact same amp but I believe one of the channels is out. Do you have a place of business for repairs? Or can you tell me where to get the parts for it? Thanks!
You should try giving them a bath in water and baking soda I use a teaspoon of baking soda in 1 cup of water and i put a battery terminals in it and it eats the corrosion off and leaves it sparkling clean you will see a reaction where it foams up that is good because that is working on eating the corrosion away I don't know if it'll harm the electronical components though
I need a video that shows you step by step how to test to see what is wrong I have a amplifier 3000 watt the only thing I see wrong there is a black little card looks like a SD card about 1/8 thick x 1x 1-1/2 looks to be swollen and burnt from the inside nothing else appears to be wrong I accidentally touch the ground and the positive together when removing the amp
Tech tip suggestion: instead of fuses that can continuously pop, wire up a 40 or 50 watt 110V light bulb to a couple of alligator clips and clip them across the fuse holder. If there's a dead short, the bulb will be on more than dim. If it's full bright, it's likely shorted finals.
Hello nice video. I have a ameritron RCS-4 antenna switch that ended up under water and has signs of oxidation / rust on the relays. You mentioned that you gave the unit in this video a bath, what would you recommend I use to try to save this antenna switch. 73... Leo k1zek
Not really sure this one is worth fixing. I am repairing one now that the bill is rising and it isn't a very valuable amp, so I need to ask my customer is it worth it to them. Some times you have to walk away.
I don't fix those amplifiers. There are not many class D amplifiers I take on do to how cheap they are to replace and the lack of service information there is available.
I used to think of MTX as a mediocre brand. Check out the dyno test of a Thunder 2300 on DerekBigDWiz site. It not only did more than the 600 rms, but put out almost 2300 watts dynamic power. That is 6decibels of headroom, which is very high even for a high quality home stereo amp.
What's the email address to contact you. I have amps that i have hooked up and use daily but have this 1 I would like to hear again. Please if there's anyway you could help I'd be so stoked.
can i get someone to help me with a question about my amplifier i open it up but now i need to know what is the part name i got a pic of just need someone to tell me more about it plz give me a email to contact you
I cannot beleive people pay for these kind of repairs... that amp is in pretty bad shape and there are good chances it will fail again... time to get a new one in my opinion...
+kev31779 It appears you do this professionally.. I have an old Hifonics amp that's stuck in protect. I really like it and would like to have it fixed, as it's an old model that is still valuable. Not interesting and torn up like this one but... I'm willing to pay as long as it's not so broken I would be better off buying a new one :)
6:30 Please STOP doing that. If you really want to fix a potentiometer then take it apart (if you can) and clean it or don't! Buy a new one. But this spray is NOT a fix. It will work of corse for a week or two. But after that will become worse.

Great video. I love all the close ups, details, and your gear. That's awesome!
So many people would have thrown those amps away. People like us see a challenge.
Great Job!!! What OWON is that???
Hi Kevin,
Great job on what looked like a lost cause.
What type of flux do you use?
Thanks
+Tom Meeker Thanks, I use 3 different kinds. Chemtronics, Amtech and a thin liquid rosin flux that I don't remember where i got it from.
Hey kev I have 3 of these 4300's but I've never used them my question is how powerful are these I know they sound really good.
Hi Mr kev, I have 2 channel stereo power amplifier the problem is only one channel is good but the other channel is dead but the power transistor are good, i need your advice, what shall I do? Thanks & God bless.
This is like a nazarus repair, that amp looked DEAD! Good job maaan..
Hey my friend how are those two amps holding up if you still have them?
I toke my amp to the shop and they bench test it good then they installed it and told me it was bad that was years ago I still have it it looks brand new and it bench tested a couple days ago it powers on but goes right to protect mod it’s a keenwood ps500 can you recommend a repair shop and thanks for the videos there great
Can I ask why you went to the trouble? It seems to me that even if the amp was brought back, it would eventually fail again.
I don't think it is going to fail like this again since it's not going to be underwater ever again hopefully
Agreed, but reliability is still going to suffer. I've dealt with two way radios that had water damage, and sometimes we would be able to get them to work, but they eventually all failed. It just wasn't worth it terms of safety and performance loss.

very nice and informative video, you work very well
should I get my t1000 repaired, 4 transiters went out
What did you do with the thermal thing.
Cheers
I use Amtech NC-599 or MG chemicals flux and Needle meter probes. Just search for them on Amazon they should have everything.

Do you have the specs of that one! I have one in good condition!
What is the spring loaded solder sucker thing you're using
Subbed nice video i like how u tale the time to make a long video and go through it step by step 👍
Hi 👋, can't i ask a question.. ? With what I clean my amp board with
Hey man , what component is in position Q201/202 and Q301/302 ? 👍🏼
would you have a part number on the gain control adjustment knobs
I have a MTX 2300x I need looked at ! You still taking on repairs ???
I picked one of these up today! Hopefully it works 😁
You should try giving them a bath in water and baking soda I use a teaspoon of baking soda in 1 cup of water and i put a battery terminals in it and it eats the corrosion off and leaves it sparkling clean you will see a reaction where it foams up that is good because that is working on eating the corrosion away I don't know if it'll harm the electronical components though
hello friend can you help me to know what number of transistors are going and in what place since mine was damaged and I cannot see the numbers
Are you doing this as a regular business? ?
why are there so many pots? couldnt it be just 2?
Wow. I wouldve written that off as well and truly BER
I need a few amps repaired, where do I send it for you to fix??
Where are you locate?
Hey was woundering if you do side jobs I have a Memphis 1100 watt

My meter is a RSR MS8050. I got it used on Ebay..
+Kev31779 can u fix my mtx 4300x
Email me with your location and issue and we can discuss. My email is on the about page of my YT channel
I can't find it Marcusbuckacc@gmail.com
+Kev31779 hey I have a Orion amp I'm trying to get repair can I send it to you
What happened to this amp?
awesome!! great video!!
nice
Kev How can someone get an amplifier in to you for repair?
I sure do got a soundstream reference 700sx needs some love u do repairs for ppl?
do you have a schematics for?
I need a video that shows you step by step how to test to see what is wrong I have a amplifier 3000 watt the only thing I see wrong there is a black little card looks like a SD card about 1/8 thick x 1x 1-1/2 looks to be swollen and burnt from the inside nothing else appears to be wrong I accidentally touch the ground and the positive together when removing the amp
Where it was barried ?
Under water in my leaking trunk.
I need your service how can I reach you?
Where do I get my amp fixed and 1 15 in sub
As was said most people would throw it in the rubble heap. This is a challenge.
Tech tip suggestion: instead of fuses that can continuously pop, wire up a 40 or 50 watt 110V light bulb to a couple of alligator clips and clip them across the fuse holder. If there's a dead short, the bulb will be on more than dim. If it's full bright, it's likely shorted finals.
good stuff

You must be a mainah... At least somewhere New England, but beIN from maine maine is my first guess...🤪
Геннадий Корбан в молодости чинил электронику?!
Would be funny if Chris AudioFix popped up and said toroidal kml
The first band of that 5 band resistor should be yellow, if this is supposed to be 475 ohm. Weird color, looks rather green to me.
For a challenge sure, but who would pay for this to be repaired? The labor alone would be worth three of those amps
can u fix my power acoustics 3000 class d amp
I don't fix those amplifiers. There are not many class D amplifiers I take on do to how cheap they are to replace and the lack of service information there is available.
HAHAHA... YAAAYYY..
how can i get my too JL amps too you?
If your amps are too JL then buy something else.
Parece como si hubiese estado enterrado en el jardín.
What do i NEED TO do for you to repair my amp ??!?!!????!!?!?!?
Big Jay Lol your mother already had that all of that
Big Jay BOooooOooooOOOO ypi suck !!!!!
What ISNT wrong with that amp? If you can bring that one back then anything is possible
you took it out but you never re solder it back
where I live,we call that junk
Junk is not always a bad thing.

They dont build amp like that anymore.
You're right. They are built better now.
Adam Moore They’re built more cheaply would be more accurate.
Hey Kev31779 I got a amp for fixing can we get together
