'British Schindler' Nicholas Winton dies at 106

- Sir Nicholas Winton, who was instrumental in rescuing almost 700 children headed for Nazi concentration camps, has died at the age of 106.
He arranged for children to be evacuated from Prague and Vienna for a new life in Britain - but kept quiet about it for much of his life.

I am imagining all the parents of the children he saved rushing to greet him with open arms in Heaven
The sad thing is, they may have never got the opportunity to see them again.

steve kosier yes! It's amazing. I was thinking the same and how it stems into what they have probably done that's been positive or created something that's helped the world and impacted others and the list goes on. It's truly amazing to think about. Such a courageous and selfless man. I'm so glad he was honored and recognized before he passed away & saw the lives he helped save! Wow 💞

@@benhayter-dalgliesh5794 I don't think she means a bad thing. But they are trying to say is that he feel the pain and will still hold those innocent children that he didn't have a chance to save.
@@leam8749 She is not talking about his guilt tho, she is saying that the children probably literally haunted him, but why would they? He was not the one who killed them, he may feel like it was his fault but why would the children?
benny theGreat oh sorry about that. I think she is saying this because the kids are questioning themselves, “how come you had the chance to save so many kids, but not have the time to save us?” I think some of the child questioned this to themselves or understand.
@@leam8749 To be haunted by something can mean to be bothered by the thought of it or think about it regularly. It doesn’t necessarily mean the ghosts of the children are trying to spook him.
@@benhayter-dalgliesh5794 if you watched schlinder's list you would understand, at the end of the movie, he feels very guilty that he couldn't save more people, maybe he could have if he tried but didn't? but that's his conscious
There is a place in heaven reserved for people like Winton.

Heaven is not created yet , people who are dead go to a paradise (If you read bible) heaven will be there when the world would be ending..( I just wanted you to know that)

I live in America and first read about Mr. Winton's efforts in 2013. Even though I couldn't find a specific address for him, I sent him a card expressing my admiration and appreciation for his selflessness. I do not know if he got the card, but I'd like to think that God made sure it found its way to him. Thank you, Mr. Winton, for your sense of humanity that we should all emulate.
Thank you to our American friends for noticing one of the greatest people to ever live I'm sure it was as normal to him as breathing we are born the way we are born and he was a great one.

Sad thing is he lived his life haunted by the ones he couldn't save, instead of being proud of the ones he did save. Special place in heaven for men like this.

My wife is Czech and she says he is the most famous English person in the Czech Republic. I hadn’t even heard of him until she told me about him.
In Czech Republic there is statues of him everywhere and a lot of places named after him around the world.

The most striking thing to me about this man is his humility. Often the greatest heroes don't really want to be. They are just caught up in circumstance and they simply become heroic.
You could tell that it haunted him what he did not manage to accomplish.

On the other side of the spectrum, I recently watched, an all too short, clip on the Germans and former Nazis who tried to use their position and influence to save lives. Schindler was just one of them, not to do him down or anything.
All these brave souls need a text book with their names and deeds taught as curriculum. So that us and generations to come might learn real courage and real decency, and make these heroes proud.

WHAT A MAN! How come we never heard of Sir Nicholas Winton? We heard of Schindler, Wallenberg, Irena Sedler and few others, and their deeds, but not of Sir Nichols Winton.

By never you mean aside from the documentaries about him over the years, the books on him & what he accomplished & the many interviews he gave. Just b/c you haven't seen something doesn't mean it isn't visible; it just means you were not looking for it.

He was a modest hero. I feel proud. There is goodness in the world. I hope that kindness and compassion will always overcome evil. But humankind doesn't seem to learn. In a kind of way I am glad I am old, but I have beautiful gentle good grandchildren. I have hope.
A life-saver, a humble man, a centenarian. A man that many of us will never be able to emulate in practice, a man that has inspired countless individuals to do their damndest.
Sometimes the biggest hero's are the ones you least expect. What an icon.
