  • This Cedrus atlantica is coming really close to my vision of creating a tree similar to old growth Cedrus trees in Southern Turkey, Libanon and Syria, Cyprus and the Atlas mountains in Morroco. It was about time for this tree to be seriously styled. It was lifted from the ground in March of 2021 and put in a ceramic bonsai pot just a few months ago. Thank you for your time!

    Hi from Spain:
    Congratulations on your you tube channel and your bonsai trees.
    I have a question about the cedar of Lebanon ssp atlas. In the video it is not appreciated that you have done the apex. Is it possible to make a JIN or have you left it natural?
    I hope you can answer me.
    Thanks

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai  Год назад

      Thank you Jano! The apex of this tree has a sacrificial trunk. I'm growing the top to thicken the trunk that forms the apex, so that it looks more natural. It is better if the trunk that holds the apex is thicker than the other trunks. So I have to gorw this top high until I am satisfied with the girth. The top will be flat as it is in the natural environment, up in the mountains of South East Turkey, Libanon and mountain atlas in Mariko. Cheers!

    I just got some atlas cedar cones from my local park😏, and now you gave me nice inspiration what to do with them.
    Can't wait for early spring to start planting them.
    Branches look so flexible though, how long you need to keep the wire on them?

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai  Год назад

      Excellent investment there! Wish I had some here as well. Wire might stay on for 3 years. It is slow to scar and it definatly needs to scar in order to stay in place. Good luck with the seeds!

      @@ArkefthosBonsai thank you, many people told me they're very easy to sprout after a short stratification, we shall see...

      Thank you! I planted this tree in my garden in 2012, I think, while it was 4 times smaller than what you see now. 2 years ago I lifted it and placed it in a plastic training tab. Last March I moved it into this ceramic although I have a different one in mind for the next repotting. I wanted to create a realistic old growth Cedrus for many years and I'm almost there now!

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai  Год назад

      It is just one tree! Cedrus atlantica "Nana" has a predisposition for this form, so it requires less bending work to get there, than it probably seems. All cedrus species have a "thing" for flat foliage pads and that will help with training the tree in that form as well. Generally, going for the natural species shape saves time and effort in training.

Nevertheless, thank you for your comment! Cheers!
