Never have enough shooters! Espwhen the EXP takes advantage of the TATE mode.
which actually sucks to play... tate mode is really uncomfortable.. wish we could use bluetooth controllers to play tate on tv...
As others have said - Embrace the Shooters burger dude!! Seriously there's a couple of vids out there (can't remember who from) exploring what the fascination with the various sub-genres are and they actually got me completely re-hooked on shooter as a result. Toaplan 2 looks good - just wish they had included OutZone which is my all time fave.
Lol honestly I've tried.. I think I recall playing out zone recently.. it was pretty good, I agree.
Never enough shmups :-)
Whether it's toaplan or IREM ... those were 2 of the best early shooters companies)
Lol I'm sure we will get more. I'm probably in the minority.
@@CrazyBurger even if I suck at them… shmups is one of my favorite genre ( with action platformer sur and Metroidvania) 😅
Tate mode shmups happen to be one of my favorite genres of games, so I'm cool with it. Thank you for giving us so much good coverage of the Evercade!
My pleasure, I enjoy it. Everyone likes different games, genres and that's cool. Plenty for everyone to enjoy.
Toaplan 1 & 2 are probably my favourite two carts
Wow interesting. I think if you love shoot em ups. You'll clearly love this.
I think you secretly love shooters too, you said you wish Rally Bike had firepower 😂
@@nathanfoster3667 🤣 oh damn.. maybe I do.. secret is out!
"Enough shooters already..." Three words I will never say! I have both Toaplan collections, hoping for an Irem collection 2.
Arriving tomorrow! We need more arcade shooters for the Evercade lol!!
😆 lol noo.. I'll allow it if they add high quality that's better than what we already have.
Some of the 90's shmups would be cool,Battle Garega Dodonpachi..some of the Psikyo games aswell but the older ones all seem too similar for me..I'm no expert mind.
I can think of at least a couple reasons why there's an overabundance of shooters on the Evercade. Not only were there a lot in the retro era covered by Blaze's ecosystem, many of which have some nice visual effects for the time, but with Tate Mode being a thing, I can see wanting to release games that take advantage of that option.
agree.. we need more arcade game catridges with beatem ups :P
I just want more variety really. There's 3 shooters on this collection that just feel very similar.
I love shooters. I wish that Evercade could take all of the "shmups" and create a few "shmup only" compilations, I'd buy them in a heartbeat! Especially if I bought one of their handhelds, a shmup compilation would be one of the first cartridges that I'd buy for it!
Brilliant collection. My copy along with the C64 collection 2 arrived yesterday :). Even without truxton 2 I actually like this collection a lot more than toaplan arcade 1. Thankfully 3 of the shmups in this collection has instant respawn rather than sending you back half way. Fire shark and hellfire was fantastic. I had / have them on my megadrive so it's even more awesome having the arcade versions. Wardner and demon's world were definitely the stand out games in my opinion. I'd never Heard of them before and I enjoyed them a lot more than I expected. Especially wardner.
Yeah good points in the instant respawn. At least should be able to finish these ones..
@@CrazyBurger oh absolutely. That 1 little thing makes a big difference. Because even though I'm not an expert at shooters I do enjoy them a lot. And I don't have to utilize the save states as much with the instant respawn and infinite credits.
Really like this cartridge, Demon World is really good fun but frustrates me.
Great carts👍👍
Great video and I understand your frustration regarding shmups. They're definitely more niche than people realise. I was interested that you mentioned playing the EXP in Tate mode wasn't really comfortable for you and you're not the first person I've heard having that opinion. I'm thinking for the hard core shmup fans, a Switch in Tate mode with a Hori Stand and a Pro Controller is still the way to go. Anyways, keep up the awesome work :-)
Yeah I think the issue is that the EXP is fairly heavy do holding it in TATE mode is a bit sore after a while.
I'll definitely be getting this but it's not been long enough since Toaplan 1 for me as I'm still playing Flying Shark
I agree about the shooters especially the Tate Mode Ones I just cannot play Tate Mode comfortable on my EXP I tend to just play those games on my VS. I have been looking for a 3d printed grip for the EXP Tate mode with no luck yet.
Yeah.. Tate mode is cool but its not comfortable for lengthy play. The EXP is too heavy for it.
@@CrazyBurger I lean my EXP against the arm of my sofa when I play tate mode. Works for longer sessions.
Cheers Crazyburger - great review as always and looks like a decent collection. In terms of the hidden game I think the MD version of Warner would have been a much better choice as it’s decent and has some notable design changes from the arcade. Much better in my view than including a bonus shooter which is practically the same but with less colours 😊
Thanks Paul.. you've got me curious now. I'll check it out.
I think Evercade needs more (Arcade) games that where beeing released after 1995. I agree that we have got a good amount of shmups. But by far the most are from the 80's and early 90's. I would love to see some Saturn shmups for example. And i stil think we need more one on one fighting games.
I think the issue with Arcade titles after 1995 is probably tougher to emulate which is why we might not see them. Games like Thunderhoop 2 and World Rally 2 were definitely harder work for Blaze to emulate on Evercade.
I’m going to get Toaplan 1 some day, even though I’m not good at shooters Truxton and Zero Wing has me intrigued. Cart 2 feels less interesting to me, so I’ll probably pass it. The military shooters look pretty similar as you say. Still, the most impressive thing about Toaplan games is the rocking soundtracks!
Regarding number of games: don’t forget Interplay collection 1 & 2 only had 6 games each. Not every early cart had 20 games :) Number of games will surely vary depending on who owns them.
Truxton and Zero Wing are excellent games. I prefer Zero Wing.. its tough but you can basically just insert another coin and carry on. I know what you mean with numbers but even for Interplay they couldve just put all the games on one cart.. at times its ripping the piss a bit trying to make more money from us.
Yeah, I’ve never been tempted to buy the Interplay carts. But I had no problem purchasing something as exciting as Gaelco.
For me it’s not about the number of games, but how interesting the games are. Still, 20 great games is better than 6 great games! :)
Also, when you mentioned "Bump and Run" did you mean Bump N' Jump (aka Burning Rubber) from Data East Collection 1?
Lol yep that's the one
I like the look of the Toaplan carts but haven't bought either yet because I feel I only need one and I'm not sure which cart has the best games that aren't shooters on it? I feel the tate shooters on either cart look too similar to justify owning both. Truxton and Snow Bros will probably see me buy the first one tbh but I really like the look of Rally Bike.
Lol oh decisions.. I couldn't decide.. both are pretty similar in quality
I have both but I would go for this one because of Demon's World. Lots of fun and is a good challenge, you can't just insert coins until you win unlike many arcade shooters.
I agree, way to many schmups.
