    I noticed your listening area appears to be a large & wide open-spaced basement setting. I am no audiophile and have none of the measuring tools you have in your testing arsenal, but for a setting in a smaller environment, wouldn’t the overall sound and bass response be more appreciated where one could limit the dispersion and “bass load” in the corners? Great review! I really appreciated your well-deserved response video to Andrew’s Dragon-bashing video.

    Can’t afford this impressive set up. Has anyone heard or reviewed the new Cambridge evo one? I am considering it for my all in one and to use with my tv to replace by old set up which is big and taking up a lot of space. My house is small and so is my living room:)

  • @mrfreezey1
    @mrfreezey1 2 дня назад +1

    So. I'm in a bit of a conundrum.. I essentially built a theater room (11x18) with theater carpet for the Dragon alongside the LTV-2500. I've sort of been playing around with it myself for about a month and the integrator is supposed to come back and calibrate and tune everything up. Im tempted to get one 12, and only one bc of space... the only place it would fit would be in the back left of the room, the right side is where you enter the room that has a swing-in door, and of course the front is where the 2 8's are. I feel like the bass has been fine in the limited things that I've watched.. haven't done blu-rays yet, and just viewed some clips of movies with action scenes just to test. Do I have FOMO, or where you speaking to people like me when you said don't get 3 subs (although it sounds like you were talking about those that are getting 3 12"s)

    • @ericspear3610
      @ericspear3610 2 дня назад +1

      I too have a "smallish" room with my Dragon setup. My room is actually 14' deep x 16' wide, but I have my system set up as if it were 14' deep x 11' wide because there is an open-door area to the kitchen and low wall in the area past 11'. So, in effect I have a wall down my right side when facing the TV and the wall to the left is five feet further than my area so kind of open to the left if that makes sense. Just the way I had to set it up. The ceiling is 8' and reflects height sounds really well so I have no problem getting good Atmos effects from my Dragon's upward firing speakers. My 8" subs are in the front of the room, but I may need to move them to the back when my 12" sub arrives. I am only getting one 12" sub as I really have no room for two and it would overpower the small room, I think.

I don’t get how people still falls from this company’s marketing hype. Claiming a 12 sub to go as low as 19Hz and where it actually is more pronounce before a soft rolloff start to begin is at 30Hz, same as their 8’s. Same as their 10 inch from their previous Shockwafe Ultra lineup. 🤦‍♂️

    Thank you for the follow up! I was happy with my two 8" original subs, but I think that is because I have a smaller room (14' x 16' but my system is set up in the front wall along the first 11' as to the left of my system setup, it opens up into the kitchen area so for me, the room is set up as 14' x 11') I have 8' ceilings that reflect Amos sound well. I did end up giving in and ordering one 12" sub and am waiting for it to get here in November. I don't really have the room for another sub but think I will end up moving my 8" to the rear beside my couch and the one 12" in the front.

    So my main gripe with the base system has to do with the drastic audio decibel difference between normal audio scenes (like casual talking), and when any action occurs (guns/falls/explosions/etc). Action scenes get so loud I have to turn the volume down, and when it goes back to casual talking I turn it back up to hear it. Keep in mind I already tuned the system for uniform decibel output for each driver. Does adding the 12's fix this issue by reducing some of the demand on the 8's? You ever have this happen? Basically Im looking for a better balance between regular audio and impactful audio. It does not increase proportionally imo.

      @@neverenoughtech No because a properly crossed over subwoofer will have zero effect on vocals, otherwise you are bleeding into the higher ranges again hence the **** show frequency of the soundbar. It's the reason why the 8's should be used either side of the bar to blend in and deal with these frequencies and then allow you to place the 12's wherever you want.
      If you don't plan to use the 8's then again you would have to place the 12's at the front to also stop the above happening but it's still not ideal.
      It's a poorly designed system because you can't crossover the subs at say a frequency like 80hz as you'll have a massive missing gap and a subwoofer of that size and price shouldn't be dealing with those frequencies as it's an insult to the subwoofer itself 😅

      I have the Samsung q990c and if you put your ear to the subwoofer, you can still hear low male voices at times. JS 🎉

    If the spatial audio is not as impressive as the Samsung 990D or the Bravia Theatre Quad, I could care less about how loud bass booming it is. I want a quality surround sound experience that is faithful to the audio content. The money they're charging for this shit is ridiculous. LMFAO!
    Please don't be offended, bro. This is about Nakamichi, not you personally. ✌🏾

    19Hz can be easily felt and heard with decent drivers. 19Hz on my Dayton 18's in Full Marty cabs can pressurize and shake my entire room at even low levels. The SI HST-18's push even harder. The Nakamichi 12's just don't have the enclosure tuning, speaker Fs, or power to deliver at lower and subsonic frequencies. Which is disappointing at their price. You can get an SVS unit that blows these out of the water for the same price point. If you're looking at 4 12's, just get a single JTR 4000 or 6000 ULF (the 6000 needs a 240V line for the 6000W amp) and be amazed at what foundation damaging bass actually feels like.

      Gonna take a little Nakamichi break but I’m not opposed to learning more about the mod

      It's not exactly a fair comparison putting a 12 sealed against 18s man come on lol. In my room I have a 15 velodyne but I just wouldn't put it in the same league as a 12 never the less an 18"😂.

    I have been a dragon owner for about a year now and I cannot help but to say that I am fairly unhappy. Is it awful? No, but I expected better considering the cost. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but there is minimal height effect, which is disappointing. I cannot justify investing any more money to this system. To my fellow dragon owners, I really hope that you enjoy your dragon more than I do.

      I absolutely love my Nakamichi Dragon and my mom who's 83 loves it also. That's with the original dragon with the 2.6 firmware update with 8 inch subwoofers

      In the dragon settings menu, go to the section where you can play test tones through each individual driver. Play the test tone on the upward firing drivers and increase the setting for that driver until it feels like the sound is coming from the ceiling. You might have to adjust the volume of the forward-firing drivers to ensure a balanced sound (So that the center channels don't sound quiet while the heights sound overpowering), but you'll get an idea of what setting and volume the height drivers need to be at to be effective. My vaulted ceilings needed the height drivers to be at full 10. It doesn't really "fix" the issue but it makes it much better.
