I know right, Mark? 🤣. It was so overwhelming the history and how old everything was! I’ve never been anywhere like it. That was actually my long distance boyfriend in that chair who actually lives in Ireland. He’s been here many times but that was my first visit there.

May I say WELL DONE. River Foyle is the river. I am a Derry Man returned on retirement after years abroad with my work. You have presented a brilliant and honest and down to earth tour of the city from visiting USA tourists without real knowledge of our troubles. Please send it to Glastonbury Irish Club Connecticut. They will love it. Well done again

The walls are the only walled city to have never been breached or conquered by an oposition force in europe and that's why the city is also called the maiden city.... Londonderry is also the only city to have been gifted a cannon range called the roaring Meg in Ireland by the honourable London guilds.... The houses you looked over like the bogside is the longest standing siege encampment, then homes from the catholic people who besieged londonderry during the siege in 1689-1690 those houses directly outside of the walls used to be mixed living. Catholic and protestants until 1968-1970 when the catholic people intimated and threatened the protestant residents out of their homes which is why the housing estates across the river Foyle were built to house the fleeing protestants who were fleeing for their lives because not only were they threatened by gun point by the IRA they were also being burnt out of their homes, there is currently one protestant community left in the city side of londonderry and that is the fountain estate who have been there since the creation of londonderry

@@t-townmaryellen The original natives of Derry were Catholics. They were invaded by UK invaders ( like general Custer invaded the American natives) They built the Walls when the Catholics could fight no more.....and it has been here ever since. ...to keep them out. Then they renamed the city Londonderry as it was managed by rich traders and investors from London. Its well known as the Plantation of Ireland. The recent troubles here happened because the invaders who took over had treated the locals like slaves. They were 2nd class citizens who were not allowed to vote. The troubles happened due to this and the fight for equality began.....it is still going on today

@@PatrickM-h6j this saddens me. I’m Native American so I totally understand what you are saying. These tyrants have “conquered” around the world in various ways. It’s disgusting.

@@t-townmaryellen Its just the modern way of the world - going back centuries. Dog eat Dog.....Survival of the fittest (or biggest army) Israel and Russia are REAL modern examples.....but they prolong things making it worse - due to the nuclear war dangers looming.
Hope your not too sad - we are all living in peace here now but the invaders are "prolonging" the agony by celibrating the takeovers and marching thru the natives areas to intinadate them. They still have power but much less now.
Dont the American invaders do that over there? I study American Native modern life and they do OK now too.

Lisa, it was one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever been. And amazingly it was Freddie’s first time to be on the wall. He was so happy we did it.
