- It's beginning to feel a lot like Yule, the witch's version of Christmas. Yule is the Winter Solstice when the sun lies directly over the Tropic of Capricorn and is one of the oldest sabbats or witchy festivals celebrated by man. Our first buildings were aligned with the winter solstice, Stonehenge that fascinating Neolithic calendar clock has a processional avenue ending in the sun setting on the solstice between the two tallest of its stones.
Pagans and witches alike would celebrate this great day as it signifies the inception of the spring, when the days change from getting longer to becoming shorter and therefore it is a time of hope.
I will be celebrating Yule with my loved ones, an exchange of presents and a mighty feast, lots of fires, candles and lights to shine on through the darkness. I hope that your Yule is as good as mine.

Hi, thanks for sharing. Here in Bulgaria, where I'm from, we don't have Yule, but we have the wolf week before Christmas and it's better to stay at home, but not in the cities 😉 For Christmas, we still celebrate in the pagan rural way that the religion transforms according to their teachings .
We used a log that was supposed to burn slowly all night and the oldest man stuck it on and they counted the sparks to see how good the new year would be.
If there was a tree in the garden that was almost dead, the owner threatened to cut it down, because it was of no use, but his wife convinced him that it would bear fruit next year and not to cut it 😀
Ritual bread is made and everything is lean for Christmas Eve. That much I know from our folklore history.

Very interesting. I live in NJ and have some specific special gifts sent down from my Italian mother and my Slavik grand mom from my dad's side. When my mom passes in 2022 she was 81.5 and she passed on my wedding anniversary. Do you think this is a curse from her. Or am I being paranoid. My husband's and I relationship has been very strained ever since. We've been together 28 years.

Thank you, for sharing your traditions. Greatings from Germany. We have also some old traditions that get into the Christian mythology. For example the Adventskranz. Every sunday, 4 weeks before X-mas, they light up a candle. The candles are standing a wreath of fir branches. It is funny that Christians often do Pagan things.

Christianity is so warped! Jesus was born in spring! Clue, lambs born at the account! They always tried to take over our celebrations & change them to overtake our traditions! But, we're still here! Still burning a log, still feasting, giving gifts, lighting candles, leaving food for the fae, honouring nature! They didn't wipe us out! We're still going & passing on our traditions!
Lambs can also be born in December, Sandie Brook, in Canada farms sheep/lambs,,,

We will be hosting a dinner party on the 17th. Our main course is Roast Venison my husband harvested. The rest of dinner will be mostly things we grew in our garden. I've been crocheting Yule Gifts for everyone to keep them warm this coming year, and I made moon water last night with our Full Moon. We will do a small spell with the help of everyone for prosperity, warmth, and live for everyone in the coming year....
I am soooo excited to host everyone! All my crackpots will be plugged in and working to help keep stress low and ensure we have a great night.

In addition to welcoming back the Sun and celebrating the Sun God’s rebirth, I also set my personal goal for the year. This is moved alone throughout the turning of the wheel on each pagan holiday and finishes at Samhain. For instance, the ‘seed’ of my goal is blessed at Imbolc, ‘planted’ on the spring equinox, ‘fertilized’ at Beltain, and so forth. It is usually something that I desire to learn that year, or can be a correction also. This year, it will be the start of a potential business idea. From Samhain to Yule, I turn inward and decide what I want to work on the next year. ❤

That's what we do! I'm a solitary practitioner in rural Mississippi, so our little family celebrations are quite small and comfy. We ring in Yule with a bonfire and cooking outside under the stars. 🖤

I am so glad I found you! I have only been studying witchcraft for a few years now. I just started last year really putting some effort into celebrating. I make a beautiful Yule log. I don’t have a fireplace so we burn it outside afterwards. I write on it my new year resolutions and what I wanna release.

My ancestors are from the British Isles and Scandinavia for the most part, my family in California celebrates secular Christmas and I bring a lot of Yule into it ( we have a lot of mistletoe here and harvesting it is good for the health of the oak trees), and my Yule logs usually incorporate a fair bit of chocolate, cream, and marzipan.
I am so thankful to have come across this. You wonderful witchy woman!

There are still some remnants of winter solstice celebrations in other countries, too. In Sweden there is the Lucia Tradition on the 13th of december (wich was originally the date of the winter solstice in the julian calendar before the reform to the gregorian one). The Lucia visits the villages with a crown of candles on her head and brings the light (she is greeted in the morning when the sun rises with a choir). It is kind of mashed up with a christian saint, but lots of its elements are pagan and a solstice celebration.:) The tradition is so popular that it is now also slowly migrating to other countries, like Germany.
I’m not able to do a lot for Yule because I live with my parents again but I usually like to bake cookies and use a star shaped cookie cutter because it reminds me of a pentagram and I’ll decorate my altar with any Yule crafts I’ve recently worked on. Lastly, I hang a few ornaments on the tree that have magic intentions, even if it’s a simple dried orange slice with a pretty ribbon. My family celebrates Xmas so I usually combine both into my celebrations.

You believe in spirits and know they are real… Well, Jesus is more real than they are. And you can have an active relationship if you choose. Just like you choose to do witchcraft, you can choose to walk away from it and choose a relationship with Jesus instead. And have a fulfilling life with a purpose. You could even fight spiritual warfare, for Him, since you already know about that life.

Not all pagan people of the past celebrated Winter Solstice. At least not as grand and big as others. For some, it was a minor event or even just a niche in the circular calendar to help balance it out with a polar opposite to the summer solstice.
For Bowynn, the holiday is called "Tsa'Myliea" the Winter First; The epiphany of the Lady of Winter and her consort, the lord of the north wind. The 3 day holiday that allows us to say goodbye to the goddess of Autumn and the appearance of the Goddess of Winter in, starting with the blowing of a horn at the crack of dawn. Then a special candle is lit to let burn for 3 days. Winter Morning. Milk, Cake Wheat and Flowers are offered. No logs or trees but instead decorated wreathes and garlands deck the temple and house. the priest comes to the house later that night and taps the windows and door with his staff to protect the house from bad winter storms. He also gifts the family with a candle and a small sack of grain for light and prosperity for the winter. in turn we give him a slice of orange spice cake. More of the wheat and milk offerings are left out for the Goddess and God of Winter over night, for them to partake as they pass by. The third day of the holiday is for family, friends, feast and fun. the only gifts that are given are clothes, blankets, food, books and tools for around the house. No toys nor frivolous gifts.

I'm a solitary pagan surrounded by 99.9% catholic community in rural Italy. I keep it quite low key, but luckily my kids are quite into the creative side of things, so a couple of years ago we started to bake sun bread, and I always bake a yule log. I make wreaths but not always on the solstice itself. And then later on, I head off on my own, and always listen to Lee Harris (who's not necessarily pagan, but a wonderful channel who does months and annual energy updates). I think this year Heather Ensworth who is my favourite online pagan astrologer, is also doing something for Yule though, so It's going to be hard to fit it all in, especially as it's the last day of school the following day!

Thank you for another brilliant video. I celebrate yule with my family. We have a huge get together with lots of lovely food and drink for those of us who do drink. I have autoimmune liver disease (not alcohol related but inherited), so just don't imbibe alcohol.
We have the traditional giving and receiving of gifts on the 21 December but when the kids were small, we celebrated Christmas. I was once part of traditional religion which is a whole different epic lol, but that was many moons ago. Do you recall a book called from witchcraft to Christ....well, I went the opposite way lol 😆

Respectfully, I don't like Yule being referred to as the witch's Christmas. It is not Christmas and it does not belong (only) to witches. It is its own ancient (and modern) polytheist holytide. As an aside, the ancient Germanic (incl. Old English and Norse) peoples didn't use the Wiccan wheel of the year. Yule comes from an ancient word meaning "celebrations/parties" (plural).

@@justinfomby5620 Christmas is based on Paganism. Red and green- colours of the God and Goddess; giving presents; decorated trees. So maybe you had better look at Easter and Christmas and what symbols used. There is no Christmas in the Bible.

I'm having some issues with this video. As a 4th generation witch you have a suprisingly Wiccan bend to your teachings. Witch's Christmas? No, Yule existed before Christmas did. Wheel of the year=Wiccan. Yule meaning wheel? Yule is a tradition pagan celebration of the winter solstice. I suppose I'll have to find someone with more traditional pagan customs to watch.
