I don't know about him, but this is in my top ten. It may not be their best, but for what they did I thought was very different and refreshing from their usual work. And I'm a geek for 80's fantasy. Plaus, it introduced me to an incredible series of books.
The first movie i saw in theaters at age 3 and i had a stuffed Gurgi with readalong with cassette then later at age 4 i got the computer game. One of my fave fantasy movies.
WOW! I totally forgot about this movie! I saw this when I was very young and never saw it again. Didn't know this was a Disney movie. I thought I would never remember this little memory in the back of my head. The only scene I really remember is the boy and girl being forced by that little dog-like creature to kiss in the end I think--I don't know I need to watch it again -__-#.
***** I don't know, I don't really remember it like that (I still haven't watched it again). At the time, I don't think I could tell the difference between a Disney movie or a Don Bluth movie. It looks like Disney now though. I bought the VHS, so I should really watch it...
Xelku9 Both are dark epic fantasy movies of the 80s and both are favorites of mine. Hell even this movie reminds me of The Last Unicorn (remember that one?), Secret of NIMH (remember that too?), Flight of Dragons, Willow, Heavy Metal, Fire and Ice and Princess Mononoke.
No not really. I guess I view this movie the same way that Lloyd ALexander, author of the books, did. "Let me say first that there is no resemblance between the film and the books. That said, as a movie in itself, I found to be very enjoyable." And since I wouldn't have known about these incredible books if it weren't for my grandmother showing me this as a little 5-year-old, I can appreciate it for that, at least. But I still like it alot.
That I will agree to, but I still enjoyed it. I'm actually torn between whether or not they should remake this. On one hand, it would give the books more attention that they deserve, and possibly better film treatment. On the other, they could just screw up again. And that would just be worse.
i agree, i moved away from disney a while ago, i still love pixar though, they can have a fun, fantasy world that is still mature without dry, childish humor and the same dull childish story every time.
Favorite Disney Movie #4

Why would you think it's not a Disney movie? what makes Disney disney in essence? cause it's not a musical?
*****

I recognize this music. It's from Jim Hension's The Dark Crystal.
