The Powerpile system is a whole different animal from a service standpoint Hardly anything is interchangeable. But you’re absolutely correct simplicity is the word on these system. Thanks for the great content !
Done a number of those retro fits and installed blower motors kits. Damn things do not die. You can get slow opening valves but its a mix bag of you can get it to reliability light every time safely
Some very early units had both millivolt operated with a manual bypass for use when there was a failure of the pilot safety. Notably this option was dropped a very long time ago, as it had no flame safety control. GFM
some of these old furnaces had a mechanical safety. if a person serviced one of these old furnaces, they had better test that old safety. i have not seen a furnace like these for about 20 years. last one i worked on was in a rental owner had no reason to replace something this simple and reliable.
Would that be called a "millivolt" system? The whole thing runs without any auxiliary power? If so, the ONLY cool thing about it is that you could get heat during a power outage. If there are still any of those beasts out there now, it's probably because the owners are too financially strapped to upgrade to a modern system.

Thank you! been watching your videos since 2012. Always something new

Their heat exchangers were up to 1/4" thick. I always recommended to replace with electric ignition.

Thank you for the knowledge GFM.
I still come across these furnaces 3-4 times a winter in my area. As long as it’s safe, I tell my customers to hold on to them.
That would not be my advice.

Muchas gracias 🎉
Are there versions that don’t have automatic pilot valve?

New knees are holding up?
I will be having an update soon. There are problems and maybe solutions.

Many of them were millivolt and they would work during a power outage.

you can still get a heating stove that will work without electricity.
many floor furnaces and wall had millivolt systems.
there are some still in use.
Sounds like my 1961 Richmond Boiler. No complexity.
