Well many of these buildings can be scary as China makes them from cheap bad material that crumbles easily. Thousands have been killed in one earthquake before. I know people want to compliment others and diss America but no there’s generally tons of issues elsewhere as well. And I mean the death tolls are massive. In one of these cheap buildings going down many thousands can be killed and it has happened a good bit buildings bridges so on fall and likely more are killed in that than an entire year of shootings in ghettos in America. China hides all of this because the rule of heaven means if bad stuff happens it reflects badly on the CCP as if they don’t have the mandate from heaven. Most of what they do is to suppress any revolution particularly with the millions of farmers so they hide the disasters as best they can. Also the camps they throw undesirables in. Really all of China is scarier to live in as with a social credit score any infraction can lead to them devastating your ability to live and any infraction online can get you thrown in jail. It’s like how the UK has become. There’s also a lot of violence it’s just usually from the government. Some have been dragged from their villages and then returned having been beaten to death and the villagers told he ‘died of natural causes’. Turns out if you strictly control people and beat any dissenters to death you can have a lot of peace in neighborhood even if they live in fear of the government instead. They also have torture schools for any people acting up.

The area is usually called " 城中村 " means the village in the city. Don't underestimate the residents in the this area. When the reconstruction plan is applied, the compensation could be a few millions of USD per family. Many people in China got really rich by this way. However, in recent years, the compensation is not that high anymore, but they will get a few apartments for free instead. Still an extremely attractive deal.

A lot of these old residential complexes have been demolished, but many people aren’t willing to leave unless they get the right compensation package. I might check out this place in a future video myself.
This is just an old neighborhood, and the houses here are probably around seventy or eighty years old. This video should be from a few years ago, because there are no longer these houses in this place, they are all high-rise buildings!

The people in the video are basically over 50 years old and look very poor. Chinese grandpas and grandmas love to dress like that and emphasize thriftiness. In fact, they are the local middle class. Their sons all work in the city and have their own houses in the new urban area, equipped with Audi cars as standard. They are locals. Chongqing is a big city. Young people who come from other places to work are all poor people in this city. Many of them rent houses here after leaving their hometowns. An old man has at least 4 small rooms, which can easily collect the rent of 4 young people every month. With their pensions, they can earn more than those young people who wear suits and shorts in high-rise buildings every day by sitting at home. They live a very comfortable life. Those young people have to work hard here for at least 5 years before they can buy their own houses in the new urban area. These are still relatively excellent, hardworking, and frugal young people. Young workers, wearing suits and shorts. Facing these plain-dressed grandpas and mothers, they jokingly call themselves "wearing clothes like people and living a dog's life". Demolition? The grandpas and mothers will not agree without compensation from rich people.
It must have taken a lot of effort to find such a place. There are so many spectacular and magical places in Chongqing, but if you choose to record a place like this, your mind must be very dark, like a rat in the gutter
He’s not from ChongQing, China, just a poser. I doubt he’s ever set foot on anywhere other than Hong Kong or China which is a shame. I love HK, I have friends and relatives there, they are not this shallow minded despite having a bit of grudge against the government, which we all do. Appreciate his effort in filming this video though, or else people from the rest of the world wouldn’t know “slums” like this exist.
Also to be fair he should also film the coffin homes and housing problems a lot of HK people have to deal with, a harsh reality. But just like any propagandist, he doesn’t want to paint his home as a bad picture. It’s denial.
"your mind must be very dark, like a rat in the gutter" what a moron you are. He wants to show NOT WHAT AMAZING THINGS THERE ARE MAGICALL UMMM UHH AHH, he's just showing the real picture how it is. In this vid, I did not see any typical slum action, that we see a lot here in Finland. No street smokers or zombies, no littering, dealers, smashed windows, burning cars, stealing people's shoes and motorcycle parts plus random stabbings. So, this Chongqing urban village is definately NOT to be called a slum!
@@zfwang6890 Not really, but it's some of the oldest part in a big city though. The living conditions in some very remote parts of China can be way worst. But to be fair, China does take action to improve the quality of life of people living in remote areas even though the cost is extremely high.
Yes, no gangs no homeless no drugs no LGBT no black lives matter no Antifa no GEORGE SOROS no NGOS no Multicultural shit holes .No any white AGENDA. No Liberal media....
its expected they won't have drugs cause they're major source of its production, they know the effect in which case they heavily disallow such thing to their own country
So, you compliment a slum while some compare it to their own country-ask yourself, who is responsible for making it a slum? It's not the passersby or visitors, but the residents themselves. Their unwillingness to clean and improve their surroundings is what keeps them in poor condition, yet they expect outsiders to justify or tolerate it by claiming it's "clean enough" for their standards.
That's true. The people living in these urban villages have proper meals and pretty much have what a middle class family would have. The only difference is the location and their living space.
@@positronicbrain6957 Your comment under rights that people in slums in Mumbai or other places in India don’t have anything to eat. No.. that’s not true..
@@positronicbrain6957its not about meals, its about living conditions. In indian slums there will be lot of health issues, higher mortality, zero sanitation etc
No drug addicts around, no homeless people living on the sidewalks, no people begging for money, no people almost naked on the streets or with filthy clothes, no garbage filled streets or rivers of stagnant water all around, no miles and miles of empty lots, houses, closed shops... that's what real slums look. What really this looks is like just a poor part of the city that needs some investment in making it look better. Lots of street vendors, shops and economic activity and if there's a lot of police patrolling around then at least the government is doing something to control it. Plenty of places all around the world including highly praised countries in Europe and USA the police won't even get near them and just let crime do its job. Obviously I'm not saying this place is perfect and everyone there lives happy but compared to the rest of the world they're doing far better. I won't be surprised if all this gets demolished in a few years and new buildings are made.
If it does get demolished it would be worse because state run construction sucks. It looks nice on the outside but falls apart easy that fool idiots like you into thinking they’re advanced. They’re economy sucks and they cut corners anyway they can. I’d take zombies concentrated in big cities in particular area than a commie state where you have zero freedoms and on top of that live in a shit hole.
even if it is a slum, it is rare for ChungQing. It is at walking distance to one of the busiest spot of the city. and it only spans a block of district.
In China 1kwh electricity costs less than 0.083 USD (0.6 Chinese yuan, or 60 Chinese cents. The exchange rate is 7.2). The stipulated minimal monthly wage in China is about 300 USD (around 2200 Chinese yuan/month). However, most majority Chinese workers earn at least 500 USD/month.
0:17 The advertisement on the fire hydrant reads: 200M fiber broadband for home use for only 300 yuan/year,that converts to about $41.91 in U.S. dollars.
You do realise that Chongqing is the MOST POPULATED CITY in the world! It has a population of 32 Million (we here in Australia, have a National population of 24 Million). If that is the spot you found in a city of 32 Million and call it slum, then I think the city is doing really well considering that 31.9 Million live in the most futuristic city in the world. You really need to see REAL SLUM in USA. The Street People in Kensington Philadelphia, Tent People in Venice Beach California, Caravan People in Kentucky, Car People in Miami, Sewer People in New York City and Las Vegas.
Tokyo is the most populous city in the world, but I agree with most of what you said. The Philippines is much worse, and some areas in the USA are also. I don't see any tents, open drug dealing, or defecating in the street; all are there in the USA. Having to live on very little with dignity is superior to the throw-away mentality of the USA. Slum= dirty and poor
It honestly doesn't look bad at all. It has character. And it's a heck of a lot safer than slums in other countries including the US.

However, in recent years, the compensation is not that high anymore, but they will get a few apartments for free instead. Still an extremely attractive deal.

It doesn't look like a slum. It looks very clean.
But you have to admit it is a slum 😮😢
@@Morrone007 It is absolutely not a slum.
This is a slum:

@@Morrone007 a slum in what context? have you seen the slums in oakland?
Clean 😂
Yes jails are very clean.
Are you Chinese??? I have lived in China for years and the people living at such areas don’t regard it as a slum!! Although they are poor they are very decent people!
İ had lived in Shanghai, Shuzhou, Tianjin, Wuxi, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Fuzhou, Shenzen for 3 months time. From Ankara Turkey greetings to you all in Chonqching.
I reckon the place has character I would totally live there 😮the vibe seems friendly
This is an older working neighborhood, the building is dated workforce housing but the food vendors are good and cheap and its clean. Even up into the 80's many of the government homes had shared bathrooms, and people used neighborhood bathhouses, modern now, but many of the old neighborhoods like this are around.
Better than most western big cities
absolutely
😂 Whatever Wumao. I've been twice and its an absolute sh#thole with air that's more a solid than a gas.
But you're absolutely right, who would choose ugly Western cities like Milan, Florence, Edinburgh, Paris or Vienna when you've got something as beautiful as this! Who'd want to sit at a little cafe and sample local cuisine when you can sit on a plastic stool and wait for your gutter oil cooked fried rice. Yum 😂😂😂
True dat. Western big cities = shitholes
@@willsmith39 I am an American and not a WUMAO, it’s just I live in New York and I’ve traveled throughout most of the west and yes, you’re right on some points Barcelona and Toulouse our utterly amazing cities, but unfortunately, he a nice states. We are overrun with crime and criminals and other forms of insanity.
@@jm7578 I used to live in the US and have travelled extensively throughout the country. I didn't find it to be the violent hell hole you depict but hey.
Also the whole 'the West' v 'East' thing to me is pretty asinine. 'The West' comprises of over 50 countries with distinct languages and cultures. So the West where exactly? Because Denmark and the US don't have a great deal in common. Neither do Portugal and New Zealand.
Similarly Japan and Laos aren't terribly homogenous I would'nt say. If I'm living in Jakarta then my experience with crime may be quite different than I'm living in Singapore. I just feel like these types of sweeping statements about 'the West' are pretty infantile.
This is very interesting. These areas all look the same in many Chinese cities. I have to get out to Chongqing one day and explore it. I hear there are lots of hills. I enjoy mixing it up and chatting with locals in those areas.
Looks like America, but without the drugs. In all truthfulness it is much cleaner and definitely safer.
This is not slum....apartments around here worth about $200K USD - $400K on average. Those old apartments are waiting to be demolished. Some people still live here because it is in downtown and convenient.
你不了解贫民窟,是很多成年人无所事事的站在一起,是孩子上来问你要吃的,是有人迫不及待的向你兜售商品。这说明人已经不在意自己的样子为了生存。
It isn't a slum... If this is your standard of slum we are live in shacks
It's not what you live in. It's what you can make of your life.
A house doesn’t make a home.
I love all the stacks of old appliances never run out of spare parts for any thing. A bit like in blade runner
Seems business is good there. Many places cannot have a place of business at the home . I live in the USA, and we don't have this freedom where I live.
every family have air conditioner
I love the narrow alley and the tunnels and the trees growing out of the stone
That’s not a slum; that an old part of town where the old folks have lived for decades and they like it that way, they know everyone, they shop there, and they love it. It’s a real community. I’ve walked through similar old neighbourhoods in modernized Chinese cities. The government usually offers to rebuild their neighbourhood but the old residents don’t want it changed. Usually you’ll notice very few young people because they’ve left for school or jobs.
I remembered Kung Fu Hustle. These guys could be some of the strongest kung fu masters
Great set for a Bruce Li movie
Great walking tour video. The slum here is actually better than some democratic areas in the Philippines.
Chinese slum is better than many 2nd world countries middle class living.
Wait, the first world is the Soviet Union and the United States, the second world is the industrialized countries, such as Europe and Japan, the third world is the lower-middle developing countries, and the fourth world is the underdeveloped countries like the Sahara Desert.
7:52, lovely street market. Fresh vegetables, fruits, meet, foods~and so convenient. Those "bottom" people the calm, harmonious
*感谢更新啊!兄弟們不管哪个城市,找心爱的女孩子上課请看這!* 💘💘
How is this considered a slum where there is a busy shopping street with public transport readily available? This looks like a cool place to live in. The building exterior might be moldy and dirty looking but the interior looks fine. I like the urban layout of the surrounding buildings, looks very cool like a Kungfu Hustle movie set.
Are you insane? A cool place to live? 😂🤣
Some of the old houses have also become extremely expensive, so the owners are holding onto them despite having other places to live, to make govt/land developer pay them even more if they ever want to use that land.
You should go there now experience their crappy economy right now. 😅
@@greatlambrini8722 This is just an old residential area. The houses here are estimated to be around 70-80 years old. The people here are not poor, and if demolished, they will receive a large sum of money and become middle-class!
@@RonLo still much better than HongKong.
Concrete jungle. Safer than all the cities in California
Is safer than California although much of the streets shown in this video would be condemned in America, the people of Chongqing find a way without the prevalence of drugs and alcohol as seen in America. Americans have no reason for living like in Chongqing other than being slothful and addicted to drugs and alcohol.
YES, please don't come to California, especially San Francisco. It is a miserable place to live. No one should live like that. If you don't have a skill someone will pay for, you'll live in a tent and be rousted by the police daily. No one wants you there...
i beg to differ there's some cities in cali that are better looking then this like certain parts of riverside mostly southlike woodcrest canyon crest hillcrest mission grove etc, then u got rancho palos verdes rolling hills both of these cities are way better then the city in this video then u got torrance diamond bar irvine costa mesa is decent south orange county laguna beach ❤ these are just a few cities as fountain valley cerritos murrieta menifee glendora la verne san dimas certain parts of rancho cucamonga eastvale chino hills yorba linda anaheim hills claremont etc... coming from someone from cali, you should get out more and explore stop talking bad about the most relevant state in usa
Cleaner and better housing than 99% of the U.K. 🤷♂️
That's not actually close to being true , is it?
china slum are so clean👏💯
This was a good video, very interesting. Thank you.
Great place for a romantic evening with your lover 💞.
Yeah, if you are from India
Just needs a waterblast, some plaster and paint. No probs. Greetings and best wishes from New Zealand. 😊
All you showed was an abandoned building earmarked for demolition.
I've been to China and did no see this.
I've been to USA and visibly saw the poverty, it was appalling. They had NO CLEAN pathways and roads to turn to.
There are Street People in Kensington Philadelphia, Tent People in Venice Beach California, Caravan People in Kentucky, Car People in Miami, Sewer People in New York City and Las Vegas.
Nothing I've seen in developed countries compares to the poverty in USA.
If you really went to China then you didn't know anything kid since there are so many slums like this one and all controlled by the Chinese triads.
You should visit Los Angeles (downtown) U.S.A. This is looks like a place I would love to visit.
