Been looking forward to your analysis of Six - such a great show. (Also hoping for the Beetlejuice musical, by the way.) Buying lordships is nonsense, though - the Court of Lord Lyon, herald for Scotland, has made it clear that such small grants of land (particularly as the plot is sponsored rather than actually purchased) is not sufficient to qualify for the conventional title of laird. It's also worth noting that a laird, while linguistically cognate, is *not* a lord and doesn't authorise anyone to claim to be one - putting it on one's passport, for instance, is technically changing one's name rather than gaining a title. It's a clever way of fundraising - essentially letting people adopt a patch of land much like one might "adopt" a penguin at a zoo - but one shouldn't believe there's any real ownership or title involved.

I find it so interesting how you say that the tune is used despite not making sense. Maybe that’s why it was used. To show how Henry’s “love” for them was a lie. And I just noticed how the part of the tune repeated the most is “Alas my love, you do me wrong”. Really gives you something to think about. 🤨

I also find it interesting with the quote from the song Six, Anne Boleyn's part. "Henry sent me a poem all about my green sleeves I changed a couple words, put it on a sick beat" showing how they change a couple notes and put a good beat on all of their songs, but they are all a variation of Greensleeves!

Oh interesting! I'd be curious what YOU think of the show, knowing everything you know!
Anne was a political pawn, she had no say in anything! I find it a poetic justice it was of her own blood that sorted England out afterwards.
Agree re Boleyn’s innocence. Her crime was not basically having a male child. I appreciate the re-casting of Howard’s story and feel so sad about her short and tragic life.
"Mate, what was I _meant_ to do?"
Oh man, you’re in for such a treat! It’s very fun and uplifting. I saw it in Adelaide with a friend recently and liked it so much I dragged my husband back to see it again (he loved it too).
Buuuut you are gonna have to suspend a bit of your historical knowledge 😆
This all reminds me of the saying "England can exist without a king, but never without a Queen"
the way we are playing green sleeves for band and we JUST got the music on monday. what a coincidence of this video being recommended bc i’ve never even look it up before
I have only listened to Ex-Wives and when I noticed it I recognized it but I couldn’t remember what it was from. It sounded like a Christmas song, I thought it was a coincidence and it kinda bugged me lol
Wow, this is brilliant!!
Established Titles is just a novelty, practically a scam. There is nothing legal about it. It's like buying a star.
It's more of a charity of sorts. Your primary purpose of buying it is to help nature by reclaiming land to prevent deforestation, but the "lord" things are more of random benefits.
I could hear "what child is this" n my head when it played and was like WAIT WHATT
SIX is one of my all-time favorite musicals. Thank you for this! I can't believe I didn't notice this already.
I've blogged thousands of words about Six the Musical (mostly about the historical references in the costumes and songs) and somehow had never caught this! I had always wondered about the dissonance in "wi-i-ives" in Ex-Wives and am absolutely delighted to get a good explanation for this. Brilliant work as always!
I doubt this will be seen but the company that sponcered you has had some info shown about them about them being shady and not a good company to work with!
My dad plays the guitar and he has some songs he always plays. Well, I didn't know the name of all of the songs, I just >know< them when I listen. It's so fun to think that I literally grew up hearing my father play green sleves and just discovered it was green sleeve after watching six, searching about it on google and then fiding it on an old vinyl disc and finally listening to it
For me, it's the songs my mother played on the piano. Whenever I hear those songs, her version is the one in my head.
@@HowardHoMusic ooh, that's amazing 🥺 I also have my father's version in my head verytime I hear it.
It's magical to know some songs can be special for different people all around the world
I don't understand musical theory/notations but these types of videos are always fascinating!!
LOVED THE VIDEO!
I didn’t know green sleeves before this and thought that they where going to talk about Anne’s green sleeves acting as some remote control of the show basically inverted green screen chromakey where a computer looks for cues from them to sync everything
That is exactly where I thought this was headed too! 😂😂😂
NOO NOT THE ESTABLISHED TITLE SCAM
I find it so interesting how you say that the tune is used despite not making sense. Maybe that’s why it was used. To show how Henry’s “love” for them was a lie. And I just noticed how the part of the tune repeated the most is “Alas my love, you do me wrong”. Really gives you something to think about. 🤨
Whenever you were talking about how HenryTheEighth wasn’t famous for himself but because of his wives I was like. That’s true.
First off, you rock!! I'm not a music person, but I find your analyses so interesting! I binged the ones on Hamilton. Secondly, I bought some land in Scotland! Such a cool sponsor and a neat way for them to raise money. - Lady Lydia
You're not actually a lady. Established Titles is a scam based in Hong Kong.
Exactly what I was looking for, I knew there was a music theory explanation for this. Thank you!!
Absolutely amazing, also your absolutely right, it’s messed up how history talks about the king when he’s only famous for his wives, who should be the ones to be talked about historically
you have no idea how traumatised i was when i heard greensleeves in six
oh god all the exam memories…
YES!
haha same
Thank you! I've discovered this musical in the past 24 hours, and I've been confused why "be 6 wives" sounded wrong when all the other music is phenomenal. This is such a cool reason!
I kept hearing Greensleeves in the “Ex-Wives” song but I hadn’t heard any other songs and had no idea.
I also find it interesting with the quote from the song Six, Anne Boleyn's part. "Henry sent me a poem all about my green sleeves
I changed a couple words, put it on a sick beat" showing how they change a couple notes and put a good beat on all of their songs, but they are all a variation of Greensleeves!
Yaaaaasss so glad you're a Six person!
This video was amazing, thank you! I have absolutely no knowledge of music but I always thought the Ex Wives song sounded a bit off - so interesting.
Imagine make a college essay that good
I think that king Henry might have wrote the song for Anne but it was a privet thing until it was found and published
I love that sort of thing so much!! Thanks for this analysis
Ah, the song of HK public listening exams.
Hey Howard, would really love for you to look at songs from the Starkid musicals. Maybe from The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Black Friday, The Nightmare Time series or Christmas Carol VHS. Would be so intriguing to hear you analyse their songs!
I love Team Starkid! Though I haven't done any full-on analysis yet, I did talk about The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals a little in this video: ruclips.net/video/kPaTRRbxW64/видео.html
at 10:12 the queens should be singing C-G-Ab-G (as opposed to Bb-G-Ab-G) so you made a tiny mistake there.
This is really fun to analyze...actually Greensleeves was the first melody O leaned to play in Piano when I was 5 and I prepared it for a talent show in school...this melody is special to me
I haven’t even finished the video, but I wish I could give more than one like to a video. You would have gotten ten just by the Young Frankenstein reference alone.
amazinggggg. would love to see a video on “all u wanna do” :O
I'm definitely considering it!
music theory is so amazing and complex. boy i do not miss studying it. keep up the good work
Love, love, LOVE this!! 💚
You got a sub because of how brilliantly yet simply you broke this down!
Yay, appreciate the sub!
Me playing piano and loving the history of tudors:
😊
That’s so cool! My school orchestra (that I’m in) is playing green sleeves at the concert!
PLEASE DO THE WHOLE MUSICAL!!! I've never asked you for anything!
Haha, that's a goal of mine!

Thank you for all the great videos Lord Howard Ho!
How timely, I just saw Six twice here in Orlando, and now here we are!💜
Lucky you!!
I dont understand music but I like breakdowns esp musical ones
